I think it's fair to say car racing AI is more 'tuned' (a stretch) for fast racing, and I guess expects you to at least be moving in the correct direction. As you would be if you were actually playing the game properly.

That said, get super frustrated when I race clean against the AI, yet it just shunts into me regardless. And to make no attempt to get around any stationary car just seems very very silly.

Fortunately, the real fun is in the multiplayer!

I also don't understand why some of the rolling starts are at 30fps, then after the countdown, jumps to 60.

Replays still aren't on the same level as GT, but definitely better than previous Forza games. I just wish they ran at 60fps. Also some depth of field would be nice.

But this is the first Forza game where I actually watch replays.

I still don't understand why the discussion about the game is dominated by comparing the number of ballsack hairs rendered between it and GT7 and not the track list.

Car list is pretty disappointing as well. You have the Alfa Romeo licence and only include 1 mid-spec Guilietta. No Lancia or Fiat, BRZ but no GT86, and barely anything for most non-German European manufacturers.

I'm also finding the races pretty lonely, the front 3 shoot off into the distance and the cars behind never seem to try and catch up meaning I finish 4th most of the time.

The evangelizers are at it again

This video does, not the exact same track but shows how GT7's AI reacts to obstructions and tries to avoid them.

If you took the section at around 8 minutes or so in isolation and made a gif ot would look as bad as the Forza one above. Not sure if the Forza AI always behaves like your car isn't there or not though.

It always does. There are no clean races in Forza outside of being the only car on the track in time trails, qualifying laps, or practice.

I am glad that there is a rewind feature because i am punted off the track in every other race. Sometimes twice in a race. I dont know what kind of machine learning these driveatars were learning from but they picked up habits from those infamous forza rammer lobbies.

On one hand I like it because its more realistic, but like you said, even when im trying to be clean they dont play by the same rules.

Don't forget that the grass in GT7 is also animated to sway in the wind and react to cars driving by:

thats a pretty neat effect. I might have to buy GT7 to do some proper comparisons with Forza. The game hasnt wow'd me so far. I think its lacking some fictional tracks like the tokyo track in GT7 that help the visuals pop. A lot of the tracks have the increased trackside detail which I appreciate, but the track themselves are rather elementary. Maple valley is the only good looking track ive played so far. They shouldve shipped with the Prague track and that dubai track they released in FM7.

Also, a lot of tracks play out in some very bland weather conditions. Like midday and thats it. Ive played one race so far in cloudy conditions and it looked pretty great. The single rain race was also great. but 90% of the races have been basic midday circuit racing. You can put all the tech in your game but if you dont utilize them then whats the point?

Do it. GT7 is amazing. I'm not even a fan of the franchise (always, ALWAYS preferred Forza) but thought GT7 played (and looked) amazing.

The lack of any of those fictional circuits where you can make your technology and artistic level shine is really a disappointment. Prague, Dubai, New York Montserrat.... With the new lighting and variable weather these would have been very celebrated. Definitely, in my opinion, they have not known how to prioritize the right content.

I hope that the circuit updates include a good % of fictional circuits if they want to please as many fans of the franchise as possible.

And on the other hand, the trees in FM also have physics and move with the wind. The protective barriers of tires, signs and other elements of the circuit have their own physics.... Each Studio prioritizes according to which aspects. We will see in future updates if T10 continues to polish the visual aspects beyond the inclusion of new cars and circuits. I would settle for them to polish aspects such as AI Lods in replays and photomode and menu presentation and a more expanded ForzaVista. Playground, for example, has in FH5 the magnificent drone mode and a formidable photo mode using the same engine.

Grass like that is inexcusable, can't they at least have a ton of sprites to give a neat illusion like say, Xenoblade on Wii rather than this sparse bs? Or any kind of shader effect used in ancient games like Trackmania United's Stadium to give the apperance of grass without invdividual assets? Anything?

Turn 10's strict adherence to locking performance is commendable.

GHG GHG you're always looking for impressions from sim race youtubers, seems like it's generally being received favorably.

GT always has been better than Forza. I am glad that finally people come back to reality. On the 360/XO era it was trendy to say that Forza is better.

FM is still good though I don't get all the hate. But yeah I've to admit all those bugs and the unfinished looking game... I don't get what MS is doing since a decade.

It really is. The franchise has a great track record performance wise

They are probably the only developers who nailed a locked 1080p/60 FPS game on the XBO back in the day.

I gotta imagine they can pull a 120hz mode too, at least on SX, for this game in future updates.

Nah it wasn't trendy lol. Forza 4 was way better than gran Turismo 5

Who the hell took the time to stitch that together for marketing collateral? It's a shame that Rory fails to mention there that they sent him a Series X, and an early access copy of the game (so much so that he failed to realise that he was even playing during early access during one of his streams and thought everyone else had access to it at the time).

I have a bunch that I follow whose opinions I trust and I mentioned them previously:

These are the reviews I will pay attention to:
  • Billy Strange
  • Super GT
  • Dave Cam
  • Jardier
  • Jimmy Broadbent
  • GamerMuscle
  • James Baldwin (if he even plays it, he might well not even bother)
  • Dan Suzuki
  • Race beyond matter
  • Simracing 604
As harsh as it sounds, but I'm really not interested in hearing opinions from those who don't play racing games/sims and/or have only ever played Forza Horizon games. I want to know what it really feels like to drive, how is it with a wheel and whether or not the physics are actually improved for the better.

The general consensus of those that have even bothered with it is that unless you're stuck on only xbox, there's really no rush. Only the online racing and the physics improvements (which, even still is up for debate) are noteworthy, but I have iracing, rfactor 2 and ACC with LFM for that fix so why spend £60 to downgrade my experience? Rfactor 2 literally just did a major online multiplayer overhaul which is what I'll be spending time with this weekend:

So, I'm waiting for a sale, by then there will be more content added to the game and the various other issues along with the PC performance should be fixed.

Honestly. Have been lurking and lurking, watching and watching - to not have a disinformed opinion.

I was hopeful Forza could look amazing and bring some fire against PD, but GT just looks better and closer to real-life, sans the trees up close or in select weather and time combinations.

I value consistency and GT7 has it. Any little detail I noticed was wrong in GT7 like not full LOD interior in chase cam, instaLOD pop-in, half-rate cockpit reflections (which can go up to 60fps now), older track models like Bathurst or Le Mans, screen-space shadow anti-aliasing in cockpit view... those are just minute defects...

They are NOTHING compared to the inconsistencies in the new Forza - car models (some are so bad), mediocre material rendering in cockpit, bad pop-in (worse than GT), awful shadow pop-in, bad quality and limited RT on the console version (performance rt), tracks that can look really bad in certain situations, awful tree rendering at distance, inconsistent lightning and bad colour reproduction compared to it's rival, 2D wheels still?

What I mean is it's kind of more difficult to find the seams in GT7 graphics, even if they are older and less advanced. It's plenty easy on Forza, you just need to play the game - the IQ will be subpar, you will notice bad aliasing on fences and other thin details, resolution wise it can't compare to GT because they thought RT on gameplay was the way in these consoles. Turns out it wasn't.

I'm hopeful they can improve the graphics and I'm waiting for their Nordschleife - it can look really good because to me, the best feature in their graphics are the trees, nurb is full of them, hope they can nail it
