The book is great.
If there's one problem with the first movie IMO is that it felt primarily aimed at people who have read the books. I do think they could have done a better job with the worldbuilding and overall storytelling for new audiences

This is one of those adaptations that looks better realized than how I imagined them in my head as a child.
