With the Rumours of MS going third party what platform are you going to be playing there games on from now on?

According to reddit it's not happening
There have been a bunch of posts lately that Xbox is giving up consoles to just publish all games on other platforms. These are unsubstantiated rumors that random games could go to other platforms and people are taking as gospel. Consider the facts:

Xbox had a leaked hardware roadmap that shows they're working on future consoles and controllers

There are at LEAST 4 AAA first party games being released next year on only Xbox and PC

Xbox just purchased Activision and ZeniMax with the intent of developing an Xbox ecosystem, including an Xbox mobile app

All official statements from Xbox indicate the console will continue be the center of Xbox

Matt Booty leads Xbox Publishing, and Sarah Bond leads all Hardware and development. Why would you promote Sarah Bond (heir apparent of Xbox leadership after Phil) for a business you don't plan to support going forward?

Based on the games under Xbox control, Xbox will have the revenue to invest in more hardware, not less. Sony is able to invest so heavily in hardware and games because of their revenue from Call of Duty on PS. Xbox doesn't want a cut of that?

Xbox doesn't respond to these stupid rumors because it makes no sense. Why do Xbox fans need constant reassurance that Xbox isn't going away? Going 3rd party isn't going to happen, none of their recent actions suggest it would happen.

Please distinguish rumors from facts while you're doomposting.

Blatant shill. Please check your facts.. Xbox is not only going 3rd party, they are going straight to zero party

They're second, behind Samsung.

Xbox is also technically second :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I don't know if this thread is necessary since "MS going third party" is just pure fanfiction of one segment of gaming industry (mainly rocking PS consoles).

But to answer a question. I will be rocking same setup as I'm rocking currently. Xbox Series X for every first party Xbox game and every multiplat, PS5 for Sony first-party PS Studios games.

Switch and PS5, depending on game length and visual demands.

Tbf I find the Xbox exclusives pretty mediocre at the moment but will be happy to indulge on some Halo, Perfect Dark, Gears of War and Elder Scrolls when they eventually drop

After Xbox and PS became essentially identical consoles in different shells, and the controller didn't evolve for two generations, I began to view it a hassle to lug around two identical consoles.

I really hope Xbox doesn't stop making consoles. Never bought one, but companies are most consumer-friendly when they have harsh competition. I don't want arrogant Sony or Nintendo again.

FTC won't let up on MS creating a monopoly for the future and then MS releases some games on all platforms. HHhhmmm .. I'm not the smartest person but….

So we went from a rumor about an Xbox game coming on Switch
to
Hi Fi Rush coming on Switch
to
Hi Fi Rush coming on all platforms including the Dreamcast
to
Xbox wanting to release all its games to all platforms
to
Xbox going third party

We should push a bit more with Xbox going out of business and Microsoft going out of business. We are almost there after all !

The amount of shit that is told about Xbox based on absolutely nothing is in-sa-ne. It is absolutely impossible for them to control communication, because they would basically be spending all of their time debunking every single absurd rumor that is thrown on the internet about their business.

Thx, these threads works, for reassuring their place and value in the industry.

Honestly I don't play Xbox or PlayStation for first party games because the majority of them I just don't care for. I like Halo, but it's not my favorite series ever. If I had a PS4/5 I would probably try Death Stranding because even though it looks boring I'd be willing to give Kojima the benefit of the doubt and at least be down to try it.

I've been an Xbox guy since the 360 but that's mostly because I just never liked PS controllers and during the 360 era a lot of third party game series (Ninja Gaiden, DMC, MGS) that used to be exclusive to either PS or Xbox went multiplat, so it really came down wanting to play Mass Effect and liking the 360 controller more.

I think we'll have to see how significant this whole multiplat thing ends up being but either way the few games I may be interested in (Perfect Dark, Blade, Indy), I'll still be playing on Xbox.

Ok let's run this scenario.

Xbox stop making consoles and Sony price the PS6 at $800.

What do you project the response from consumers would be?
Playstation charged 600 dollars for the ps3 back in 2006 and it almost cost them the whole gen. Xbox overpricing their dogshit Xbox One is one of the major factors behind why they lost that gen.
SONY GOT A FOOTHOLD IN THE INDUSTRY CAUSE THE PS1 WAS CHEAPER THAN SATURN!!!!

thinking that Sony will try that stunt again in 2024 is laughable. Prices matter a lot when it comes to gaming consoles

Look at the learning curve of 343 industries
343 is a special case of incompetence, and it isn't anywhere near reflective of the people who make video games at large. There are indie devs who got into gamedev 5 years ago that have better game development track records than 343. 343i simply just are a really bad case.

You really think this is the scenerio that Sony would do....

Some of yall are killing me with your outtakes at times lol

90% of MS IPs I couldn't care less about, but gimme Fallout 5 and maybe Avowed on my PS5 if that turns out decent.

I'm already 95% PC, no problem for me to skip consoles for the last 5%. Wife buy all Nintendo consoles too so I'll still be able to play a big Nintendo exclusive here and there.

Are people really that devoted to the Xbox brand name, they wouldn't want them to drop out of the console footrace. Instead of taking the path Sega took. Really?

PC predominantly. Nothing changes. I haven't purchased a PS5 because there's currently nothing exclusive to it I want to play. I'll play Ragnarok when it hits PC because although being on PS4, I want to play it on good hardware. I made that mistake with the PS4 where every game I bought and played on it came to PC besides Bloodborne, so I'm pretty much PC exclusive this gen. Have a Series X in the living room I just throw gamepass on so when the nieces/nephews come over there's something to play. To me, the need for consoles is 99% dead.

It seems like many people in this, and the many other threads are doing it with bad intentions. Extrapolating on unconfirmed rumors and claiming their wet dreams are coming true as an absolute fact based on very little actual facts..

In answer to question posed in the title, I will be playing on my Xbox since it's not going anywhere.
You sadly sidestep my post with that answer. Does some people in this forum have "bad intentions" relative to Xbox. Of course. But did the rumors have been fabricated or have been used to volontary hurt the brand? I don't think so. And that was how I felt the post that I quoted was saying or insinuating. This is why I did talk about some Xbox fans reactions to the rumors. If they can be unhappy and pessimistic about Xbox future, why can't Neogaf posters do the same? As for the fact that some people extrapolate on unconfirmed rumors, this is a enthusiast forum. I consider it normal and expected to go crazy on every small piece of info we can get. Look at the big threads we have talking about the PS5 Pro. Who have yet to be confirmed by Sony.
Going back to this thread question, PS5 or PC, if the game is on Steam and is either cheaper, not full of DRM or better played on it. I did think about getting a Series S in 2020, but decided against it because I don't play enough to make it worth it, even if the console get as low as 150€. I think that the controller is stopping me from it.

Did I miss something? Where did that come from? Sounds unlikely.

Yeah, this gen has been a big disappointment for exclusive content.

Only true exclusives are Ratchet & Clank, Spider-Man 2, and and Demons Souls.

Returnal, LoU Remake, LoU II Remaster, etc. are available on PC. And other big name games are cross platform.

However, the one big saving grace is I don't have a PS4 and the backwards compatibility on PS5 is godly.

With MS putting all their games and Sony putting some of their stuff on PC and all the advantages of that, that seems the most logical move. Easily

If they bring over Rare Replay, I will sell my Xbox. Quickly so I can make some of my money back. They ruined emulation on it so it's DOA almost for me.

PC and Xbox most likely, it's great having both in the same ecosystem with gamepass ultimate covering access on both. On some games I can play a bit on my PC while the kids are on TV and then pick it up on xbox later. Since Sony is putting their big games on PC now I see no reason to have a PS5.

I am a Nintendo and PC only gamer. So I will look forward to any Rare IP that would show up on Switch and Switch 2. Games like Perfect Dark 3, Rare Replay, KI Anniversary Edition, and Banjo Threeie deserve to be on Switch/Switch 2. I would buy them on PC too, but would double dip if they would find their way to a Nintendo system.

It's wild to see that KI Anniversary Edition removed the arcade games so that they could snag an E rating. Makes more sense than ever to put it up on Switch 1/2 now. Also, notice that the leaked controller is trying to conform with gyro control standards like Switch and Playstation already have.

@Topher @GHG The biggest FUD Microsoft ever spread to the gaming sphere is the idea that we need them specifically to stay in the console race, when historically, there always were new entrants to the space to replace the old. Hell, even if no one new enters the ring, this still isn't the 90's or 00's.. The gaming sector is far more competitive and agile than it ever was.

The guys who tell us that we're close to a post-console future are the same ones who keep pushing bullshit about how we need them to stay in console. Make it make sense.
The way console prices rise if MS leaves the market is if MS actually goes through with their plan to let other manufacturers sell Xbox branded consoles. Those companies will need to make a profit on the consoles being sold similar to the 3DO days. It will not be Sony causing the console price increase but I do fear they will follow if other consoles are sold at a higher price.
