Crazy this year I get a sand land game and a Hunter X Hunter fighting game.

Younger me would think I'm full of shit that this would ever happen.

We don't know how involved Toriyama was in DQ12. But I believe Horii at some point talked about having received the design for the main character. Which has probably at least been approved by Toriyama, if not drawn by himself.
