Hellblade 2 was a huge failure (as expected), but I doubt Microsoft will close them.

One difference between Ninja Theory and Arkane Austin is that Microsoft have chosen to buy Ninja Theory. They bought Arkane and Tango, but imo they were more interested by Bethesda Games Studio and its IP.

Eh? How do we know it was a failure? It's been out for five minutes. Serious question as well because I can't see how a game of the generation contender can be considered a flop.

Gamepass rankings. Only relevant metric details on how good the game is for Xbox.

Excuse me but is that how you measure failure? I'd suggest that it's score is irrelevant in determining that. I'd also say that it's impossible to say either way not even a week after launch, but what do I know?
Games usually perform at they're best during launch.

Yes my examples I would consider failure and with ms closing superior studios down I don't expect NT has much hope.

it is a faliure, make no mistake about it.

Hi-Fi (new IP) was shadow dropped (no marketing at all) and did better on steam.

HB2 had a marketing cycle of 5 years, sequel of a beloved IP, and is doing worst. word of mouth is not helping either.

so...if Tango was closed after delivering a breakout success in all key matrics... what's HB2 supposed to do to be a success?

1. I don't think is going to increase Game Pass subscribers.

2. being a 5 hour game means it's not going to increase engagement metrics either.

3..Awards?....Hi-Fi won several.

They should be used to help other studios visually in that case. Maybe the NPCs in Elder Scrolls 6 would look like actual people.

They could maybe make more money for Microsoft making one call of duty skin a year, but their trailers are great for selling the image that Microsoft gaming has an art house side and isn't all about making money like it really is.

It's like all the complaints about warriors on Twitter, but they also follow them and post all of their shit on here.
Yeah they claim they hate them but they also enjoy making threads about them which gives them even more attention….the logic behind it is lost on me.

This isn't a joke, be better.
Ninja Theory put real effort on Hellblade 2. These are really talented people we're talking about. They've made a really immersive game. Yes, it didn't sold well because of MS incompetence. I don't want them to be closed.

Nobody was cheering Tango closing, why do always do this to yourself?
oh boy. they were. some of the Xbox influencers were saying that.

like:

"Those studios didn't make any money"
"When Sony does it, there is no drama, but when Xbox does, there is"
"People didn't play that game anyway"

...always trying to deflect/dismiss the significance of those closures.

and that's my issue.

now people get triggered when people question the future of an Xbox studio?...gimme a break.

I think too many people in GAF enjoy negative drama….despite saying they don't want culture war in games they keep making threads about culture war…..why?

I think everyone is drawn to drama, whether they admit it or not. It's human nature - like looking at a car crash or a train wreck. It naturally attracts your attention.

You're doing it, too, even while complaining about it. I mean, you were attracted by the topic of the thread, you clicked on it, you took the time to say something about it. The people who complain about it are part of the drama, too. ;)

p.s. I'm not saying it's a good thing. I'm just saying it's not going away anytime soon. It is everywhere you look on social media, the news, everywhere. It's not a GAF thing. It's a human thing.

I get what you are saying and I kind of agree with you but majority of threads in GAF is all about drama…..we get more topics about culture war drama than we get about actual games.

This is a gaming forum and generally we aren't supposed to be gleeful about studio closures.
Honestly, I don't see many people cheering on them being closed.

I see most people guessing when and if they'll be closed, there a big difference.

This thread is gross and you (and everyone on GAF who is laughing along to it) should feel shit. You're neither a fan of the medium nor a good person for wishing for something like this.

Tell me this... is it as gross as Microsoft killing Tango, for example?

I don't think that's true. When I looked at the first page of this forum, I counted 27 threads related to games and only 2 on culture war drama. (I included threads related to a game's sales or critical reception but excluded threads about the gaming business, game tech, or game hardware). You are welcome to do your own count. You'll probably come up with different totals than me, but I don't think you'll find more culture war than game threads. I found more threads just on gaming tech than on the culture war. I think people exaggerate the prevalence of those threads.

As for the negativity, I try to either ignore it or enjoy it. I often enjoy the so-called "negative" threads, because that is usually where GAF's cutups hang out. Those are usually the threads with the most laughs. Although I understand that if a game you like is being made fun of, it's not so funny.

You dont count the topics about the actual game turning in to culture war and tech topic turn in to console war.....and for me personally I find topic about graphics and tech super boring, I'm really not tech geek enough for that type of topics.

In fact I would say games that dont have any controversy or drama behind it gets less talk about here.

Gaf's obsession with closing down NT is fucking sad. The other thread is also oddly excited about it too.
Faith in Xbox is at an all-time low because the messaging from the last lot of closures was that they were shuttered because they had completed their current projects.

That combined with the platform changes coming, and the low performance of the game results in what we got here.

Obsidian are probably getting nervous as well.

Artists must make a product that a minimum amount of people want to play, otherwise, they can only survive as a subsided company, either with public funds or charity from MS.

The entertainment industry in the West has entered a vicious cycle in which they make products people don't want and in some extreme cases, they go against their own fans (hello, Suicide Squad). This trend needs to stop, even if it's the hard way.

I'm not sure about Ninja Theory but I can tell you that if Rocksteady shut down tomorrow, the industry would be a better place.

This is a shit thread and while joking about it is kinda funny, so is joking about AIDS. Doesn't mean you should want to get AIDS. This thread is like digital AIDS but with like 3 chromosomes on top.

Another thread

Dammit, the fact that this guy has some fungus scissorhands so close to his eye makes me incredibly uncomfortable….hey, it's kind of like reading 67-68% of the threads on GAF!! 😂

Well, it's just a logical outcome for someone who is bad at their work.
They aren't (as a whole) bad at their work, I'd argue they need a different direction though and that's on the people at the top of ND. Project Mara by the sounds of it could be just as pretentious as HB2, they need to stop making this artsy fartsy shit.

They need to go back to roots in my opinion, heck, remake Heavenly Sword with HB2 like graphics (I mean full on reimagined remake)

It was way before that. When Halo Infinite gameplay trailer was shown, that was the beginning of the end for Xbox as we know it. That made Microsoft look like a complete joke; that being their showcase for their flagship franchise. And then you had nothing noteworthy launching after that. But you could also say the penny dropped when Starfield launched (their biggest game and from Bethesda) and it failed to completely turn around the situation.

Like I said, make your own count. You will still find that your statement (that culture war talk threads outnumber game talk threads) is wrong. By my count, they comprise 5% of the total. Making exaggerated negative claims is part of what you're complaining about, and at the same time, you're also doing it.

I noticed you squeezed "console war" in there, too, so you're also moving the goalposts. We were talking about culture war, not console war. If you want to talk console war, ok, but that's a different discussion. I'm just disagreeing with your statement that we have more threads on the culture war than we do on games. That's just not true.

I agree with you that games without controversy generate less conversation. That's human nature. It's not going away, unless we turn GAF into a heavily moderated "nice, positive" forum. I know forums like that. They are boring as shit.

Personally, what I do with the conflict/drama is either ignore it or find the humor and entertainment in it. I don't take it too seriously.
