Again, Lego is using Sony IP. So sony holds the card. It'd be Sony's call if they do the publishing.
"Make this game for me using Lego on my device's. It's that simple.

1. Game publisher
We confirm that Sony Interactive Entertainment is the publisher of the LEGO Horizon Adventures game .
I'm not sure what gotcha moment you see here either.
I know you're desperate as an Xbox fan to see Sony follow Xbox to make yourself feel better.
SonyToo as they say.
And SIE has, at least, commissioned only the PC and PS5 version as the publisher so far.
I',m not seeing any gotchas, I'm just watching the attempts some users are making to try and distance this from Sony as much as possible. Baffling, really.
Seems more like "you can use the license, but we do the publishing".Again, Lego is using Sony IP. So sony holds the card.

Disney went to Xbox and PlayStation.Sony can strongarm Disney to get exclusives, but no one crosses Lego.
Sony published Minecraft. Minecraft is a first party Sony game, confirmed.
And Lego had every right to say "nope, Xbox and Switch as well or forget it".
Did they? PSN lists Mojang as the publisher, they didn't even bother correcting it to Microsoft.
I'm sure Ubisoft said the same when they commissioned Mario x Rabbids to Nintendo.
That miraculously disappeared for the last year or two. I think it's back though.

They published the physical copies.
As long as they satisfy me, they can do whatever.Day 1 pc isn't even a concession since Sony are fine being whores now

Yeah dude. It's absurd. Guess we can finally call Stella Blade, Rise of the Ronin 2nd party, and FFVII R-2 3rd party. What a joke that's been, for years. Crumbled instantly. Its really funny considering what we discussed this week haha. A Sony published Lego game isn't a first party game anymore because they published it. Its second party and they don't own it because of lego. Jesus those mental gymnastics
They published the discs versions, that makes them the publisher. Checkmate, digital only people. They didn't publish the game then.
Same reason we wouldn't say that Limited Run Games is publishing Persona 3/4/5 just because they put out a run of discs for an otherwise digital only game.
I don't think Rise of the Ronin is 1st party, though I could be wrong. Final Fantasy is 3rd party.Yeah dude. It's absurd. Guess we can finally call Stella Blade, Rise of the Ronin 2nd party, and FFVII R-2 3rd party. What a joke that's been, for years. Crumbled instantly.

Sure, I never disagreed with that. That's what I've been saying lol, finally we're on the same page.

It's not that hard. This is an idiosyncratic case of a third party IP and third party developer using a Sony game's likeness
It's not a change at all from what Hermen said.
I don't see how that's semantics at all. If Sony licenses out the Ghostbusters IP out to a 3rd party publisher to make a game (which they've done on multiple occasions), it has nothing to do with PS Studios. This is a LEGO game using a Sony IP, no different then Fortnite licensing Kratos to put in the game. Astro Bot is a PS Studios published and internally developed game. It's apples and oranges.
At this point, let the whole Sony thing destroy itself and become Xbox 2.0. Then I can solely focus on Nintendo and their quality games.
Day 1 pc isn't even a concession since Sony are fine being whores now
...shows how badly the optics in all of this is for SIE, and it's probably only going to get worst.
Like I said, get ready for all the usual folks asking "If LEGO Horizon is on PC Day 1, why isn't Astro Bot?" Do you think your explanation is going to be good enough an answer?
Just as much mental gymnastics in ignoring the multiple IPs that are involved in Lego games all of the sudden simply because this one is based on a Sony franchise. But if you can explain how Sony owns Lego all of the sudden, please do.
Why do they need to 'own' it? Spider-Man we can make concessions that Sony has movie leverage, but they're making an exclusive Wolverine game, which is an IP that has had multiplatform games before.
You're making it sound like Sony wouldn't have any leverage and are simply beholden to Lego. They're publishing the game, it's based on their IP. You have said previously yourself elsewhere on GAF that the publisher decides the platforms the game goes on. Lego is probably happy with the fat stacks Sony gave them for licensing and left it at that, assigning a developer and publishing the game seems like it's purely a Sony thing.
Yes, there's definitely a lot of mental gymnastics going on here to try and distance this from a Sony decision, which really is baffling.
This is a great thing, isn't it? Keep 'em coming!![]()
Until Dawn remake makes it 2.
This is not fetch
There's a Lego Tallneck set.Why do they need to 'own' it? Spider-Man we can make concessions that Sony has movie leverage, but they're making an exclusive Wolverine game, which is an IP that has had multiplatform games before.

I hold an immense amount of resentment towards you. I hope you step on a sharp piece of lego. Twice. In the same place
And even if it's being made by a 3P, it's still using a tentpole SIE IP
Plenty of retards to go around
As you know, every contract is different, you are dealing with different people over different situations, just because Sony and Marvel made an agreement to make Spider Man and Wolverine (and presumably X Men) exclusive to PS4/PS5/PS6 for X amount of time does not mean they'll get the exact same deal with Lego (especially as, for all we know, it's being developed by a third party). You can't compare the two.Why do they need to 'own' it? Spider-Man we can make concessions that Sony has movie leverage, but they're making an exclusive Wolverine game, which is an IP that has had multiplatform games before.

Still, not their game.SIE is publishing it.

Sony owns Horizon no?Still, not their game.
Oh you are. Trying to differentiate this from MLB the Show and making it seem like Day 1 is now official.
Classic dream of Xbox fans.
First they dreamt of Sony games going Day 1 on PS Plus like Gamepass. Every argument under the sun was made. That failed.
Now it's Day 1 on PC cause a LEGO licensed game using the Horizon IP has been announced.
SonyToo as they say.
Microsoft and Sony are not remotely in the same situation and the outcomes on releases won't be the same either no matter how much you think it will.
Sony owns Horizon no?
Trying to think here and hopefully someone points me in the right direction but what other single player IPs owned by Sony has launched day and date PS and PC?
And the publisher decides what platforms the game goes on.
So Ubisoft can publish Mario Rabbids wherever they want?
If they owned the Mario IP sure.
Oh, shit. I know where this is heading.
Finish him Topher
