Rinoa = Ultimecia

Yoshichan

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
I have never been more convinced.

nope

On the theory that Final Fantasy VIII's Rinoa is really Ultimecia:

"No, that is not true," Kitase said. "I don't think I'll incorporate that even if we do remake the game. But that being said, both Rinoa and Ultimecia are witches, so in that sense they are similar, but they're not the same person."

As someone who's played this game almost a dozen times. No.

Rinoa is a woman with the potential to become a sorceress. That's it.
All the witches are distinct individual. The only wrinkle is that Ultimecia has the ability to possess other witches. Rinoa, Ellone, Adel, Edea, Ultimecia are all separate beings.

The Squall is Dead theory would be fun, but 1999 FF wasn't that meta. Though the time loop thing was kind of ambigious (final boss sets game events in motion after being defeated by protag at the end).

He's alive, he gets to meet his father. He lives happy with Rinoa. He finally remembered the flower field when trapped in time compression, which is featured in the intro. Everyone holds a party at the garden. Its in fact one of the most happy endings in any FF, even Seifer found peace and doesn't get court martialed lol.

Rinoa isn't Ultimecia. She briefly uses Rinoa as a vessel to get to Adel, and then discards and tries to kill her. I think the Griever thing got a lot of people on notice, me too, but it was simply Squalls image of his biggest fear and Ultimecia exploited that.

The bigger mystery is how the headmaster married Edea
His in-game model does NOT do him justice!

Stop over analysing some simple and to the point fun 90s stories. There's nothing between the lines, it's your unhealthy obsession speaking.

I'd rather analyze 30 year old shit from FFVIII than analyzing the awful disaster that is the current FFVII RE-[retard]make compilation

FF VIII has a narrative looseness to it.

Such as Irvine not blowing Edea's dome off cuz he remembers her from the orphanage.

Rinoa is Ultimecia, fuck Kitase.
And what do you expect him to say? He made it purposely vague to masturbate his own ego. He's not going to be like "congratulations, you have figured out my genius" even if you get it 100% right.

Honestly impresses me people remember this stuff. I played it at launch, and I can barely recall anything about it other than the pretty cg movies(at the time), the cool but annoying combat system, the great music, card game and summons. I remember a sort of summation of the story, but it certainly didn't stick with me like some other game stories sadly. What a time period though.

You know FF8's story is a disapointing when people try to convince with a crazy story even when the developers say no to the most foolish theories.

To be fair you can make up any kind of random bullshit and it's probably a part of FFVIII's story. Watch I'll do it right now *closes eyes*

"The main characters are time traveling astronauts who grew up in an orphanage together but somehow forgot and they want to kill God who also might be their mom but probably not".

Easy!

Squall is dead is my canon Final Fantasy VIII and always was. Now with Rinoa = Ultimecia however I've had my doubts despite all the endless theories. Until now that is

Say what you want but that is not a coincidence. This is both terrifying and exciting info, love it!

Nah. Game is already amazing and we all know it. The "theories" (not really tho 😏) only makes it better

The Final Fantasy series was sold on 'big twists' in the 90's. At the point that FFVIII was made, they were experimenting with more open to interpretation type plots. They did the same thing in Xenogears and Chrono Cross.

Whole plot is mainly a metaphor for adolescent anxiety over the future and how time changes people.

Rinoa isn't Ultimecia but the subtext is that as an inheritor of the sorceress's powers she could become what Ultimecia is in the far future, and what Adel was in the past.

Time is everything in FF8, it's a pretty interesting story if you look at it from that perspective. Past, present and future are constantly in play.
