No other JRPG/RPG has the vibe it has. The art direction and art design in general, coupled with the music and cutscene direction is excellent.

Serves as a reminder for me how much the modern industry has lost sight with game creation given the amount of discussion going on right now about GAAS trash!

I don't remember much of this game but it was awesome because I could do this endless loop combo with Zell and that was sick back then.

Japanese gamers had some fancy name for that technique, where you just cycle back and forth between his two opener moves instead of proceeding to his finisher moves.

This game is broken in so many ways. Breaking the game IS the game, kinda like Star Ocean 2 in that sense.

The original ending sequence and credits, were the best I had ever seen, never appreciated hot dogs so much. It was so well done. Wasn't topped until the amazing ending of Mafia.

This game needs a full blown remake to fix the story alittle or translations.

I remember I pre-ordered 8 from EB games, and the wait for it felt like an eternity. When I got it on release day, it came with a cloth map of the world. So cool.
Anyways, I immediately hated it because it wasn't anything like 7.
I didn't give it a go again until... a few days ago, when I read this thread.
I figured I'd finally give it a playthrough--a quarter century later.
I just made it to Timber, and the Final Fantasy it most reminds me of so far is 2--I can see why the community is so divided over it.
