343i is dead, renamed Halo studios.

At least one ex-343i staffer has taken to posting their thoughts on these changes. And they're not kind.



For me, their credibility was strained when they referred to 343is devs as "some of the best in the industry." You can call 343i a lot of things, but that ain't one of 'em.
 
Hasn't the biggest problem for halo been bad management? Changing the name doesn't change the problem at the root level.

Changing the studio's name and the engine wont magically save Halo. I hope they have other plans to revitalize the franchise.

Certainly possible. Anything with 343i is a wish on the monkey's paw. "We've rebranded the studio, changed the tech, and have a new dev team!". If it turns out they fired all the good devs and have zero ability to wield UE5, well that would just be classic 343i right there.

I'll give Pierre the benefit of the doubt here simply because he was responsible for getting MCC out of its hole. 343i abandoned it for literally years before Pierre and his team got it where it is today. Sure, it should never have been allowed to launch in that state or be allowed to remain in that state, but fixing MCC is a rare 343i win and that's due to Pierre and his team. And hey, if he fucks it up, it'll be par for the course for Halo at this point.

The core gameplay, the shooting, in Infinite is fine, and I like the grappling hook. It was the map layout and lack of variation that got me bored, felt like they looked too much at BOTW and thought having small enemy camps on an open map was where the magic was there. I had more fun with Halo 5 which everybody thought was bad, was linear but visiting multiple biomes made it interesting. In this trailer they show 3 drastically different biomes and that gives me hope. Plus, visually it looks great! Just hoping there has been some engine refinements so it's not Stutter Engine 5 on PC.

Disgruntled exemployees are everywhere. 343i was known as being particularly toxic environment.

Its been widely reported that all the management and also staff got fired or left so theres not much left, including the leadership that made infinite.

Pierre was widely credited for fixing their fuck up with MCC. Hes got my vote to sort the place out. Let see what he can do before we write him off
 
The only reason they are switching to Unreal Engine is not for diversity or any of the other reasons. It's simple, they can hire temp agency workers who know UE engine, and so they can just keep people on agency rates, and contracts and never having to commit to hiring the people that work on their games. That's it, that's all it is, they won't say that but a lot of past articles hinted at how shit the Slip engine is and how no knowledge can be retained since everyone gets fired by Microsoft after 18 months.

The part that really bothers me is that 343 washed out look. The lighting is still ass on Chief's armour. The pistol finally looked like real metal but that MJOLNIR just don't look right, gray washed out crap.

Yeah, i dont think its the lighting per se more the materials. Theres definitely something really off with the chiefs look, looks like a clay toy or a robot chicken episode.

Its the Helmet mainly, but the whole thing looks like fan fiction.

The bullshot from the first Infinite trailer looked bang on in comparison.
 
Do they think renaming the studio will actually increase the quality?
They should have closed this studio and ask another studio to revitalize the IP.

I was super happy days ago but now its deflated, nothings changed the same problems still persist here. You still have the inmates running the asylum.

I was talking to a friend last night , like do they even have like someone whose a VISIONARY there. I don't care if the game looks nice do you have someone who can build a universe that's worth immersing yourself into. The reality is i don't believe they have that person.

It took 343i how long to listen to the audience. To deliver a game like Halo infinite and it was still a mess, its just so frustrating.

It seems the main problem with the modern gaming industry is it's filled with people who know fuck all about what makes a good video game.
 
Finally, been hanging to learn how Master Chief identifies and their preferred pronouns ever since that cliffhanger ending.
 
LTTP on this one...I watched the "intro video" last night and meh. It really just feels like a retread of the lead-up to Infinite.

It's telling that multiple people on the Digsite team say that they don't agree with how Halo Studios views and manages the community. The Halo community is they only thing keeping that IP alive, like Star Wars fans after the Prequels and before the buyout.

The fact that they treat forgers like shit and internally refer to forge content as not real content is hilarious considering they're the only ones keeping the game somewhat alive
