Dad, how was Call of Duty before? (Crowbcat)

Hah, yeah I played the original few CoDs on PC way back in the day and times have certainly changed. You'd think if players wanted goofy characters running around they'd play Fortnite but no I guess they want that shit in their CoD too, if players didn't buy this shit it would die out so here we are.

First man in line gets an account on GAF, second gets the memes.

When the first man is killed, the second picks up the account and continues shitposting.

I've loved COD ever since its first game. But as the games evolved, so did my feelings toward the series. They'd have me, they'd lose me, they'd have me, rinse and repeat. That being said, I know current COD is absolutely ridiculous, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't having a lot of fun with Black Ops 6.

After watching this video I wondered what COD would've been like if things would've been different. It's interesting to think about. But it's clear that while the series has gone in a direction some don't like, they made a good call cause it makes a ton of money.

Grew up with CoD and was always the first to defend the franchise from the silly haters. And while CoD still has that gunplay locked down to a tee I can't support the egregious moneyhatting any more. It's fine though, there's plenty of other shooters around that still scratch the itch for me.

Same thought process a man goes through after a relationship breaks up and sinks beneath the waves.

It's fun, but not as fun when it was a tad simpler. But then again I'm 42 and I might be a man yelling at clouds. But it might not be as fun because I'm not as good as I once was....and my buddies I play with (same group through the years) have more time to git gud.

Would love a "Throw Back" mode. Back to basics, same with zombies. That feeling of the initial house with the B17 crash outside with your boys....Don Felders Heavy Metal feeling. Chefs kiss.

I think it's fine. COD Multiplayer is fast paced and using military operators gets boring fast. Just watching that video and looking at the same color palette all the time is a drag. COD is going on 20 years old and still the king of the hill for a reason.

If COD was presenting itself as some realistic shooter game I could see the complaints but it is an arcade shooter with one second respawn times and health regeneration, where you also regenerate hand grenades and flash bangs.

Haha, I hear ya, I'm 40 so I'm not far behind you.

I think that would be great, especially with a lot of "OG" fads that have been going around lately.

I still like the moment to moment gunplay of CoD, but my god I find the whole experience depressing now. It's like a slot machine for retards, even getting INTO the game is a chore because you have to click through the 'offers' and 'passes' and other junk, and once you do, everything seems to be moronic pop culture, mumbling rappers, and dayglo colours.

It's just lame. Everything about it is lame, and annoying, and clearly aimed at modern audience-ing everything.

I hate this argument. It started as an arcade shooter with a military aesthetic and has slowly devolved into this clown-filled nonsense you see now.
People who don't like the skins don't want it to become a "Mil-sim" realistic kind of game. We just want it to keep to the military aesthetic with the fun gameplay. Seeing shit like Nicki Minaj or a fucking Shark spamming his jump paddle with his meta SMG sucks balls.

I'm really glad I got out after Infinite Warfare. My god. Look what they did to it.
I loved the first games, specially how some of their campaign missions were based on media like Enemy at the Gates, Guns of Navarone or Band of Brothers.

Looking at it today I can barely recognize this series.

Back then they really tapped into that era of middle east war footage on the news from the 90s/2000s, people wanted a modern war sim, night vision stuff and the gun tech of that time.

Startling how much push there is to show violent women now, gone from edgy to water flowing from a tap.

I never played COD 1. Only played COD 2 and 3 SP. And my first COD MP was COD 4.

I'd say peak COD for me was COD 4 to Black Ops 2. Things changed a lot once it hit Ghosts/AW in terms of map style, and at some point it got ridiculous with how fast it moved and all the GAAS and guest characters running around.

I think this video goes deeper than just call of duty. The tone and atmosphere of games have totally changed...sure you get a Stalker 2 and RDR2 once per 2 generations (no really, literally), but it is mostly pansy or quirky shit. I'll take the brown & grey color palette over UE5 anyday if it means we go back to ps360 tone of games.

Hence i play SP only and zombies also single or couch coop.. none of these fucktard sheit skins in my games 🤡

Anyway the games are still great.. just ignore that MTX store..

Battlepasses are also still fun.. just don't play online

Hell yeah. Hiding behind the dead bodies of cows in COD1 was mindblowing back in the day. Always had United Offensive installed on my PC. Loved that campaign.

fucking fortnite started all this.

Hey, let's turn kids into gambling addicts by glorifying war!!!

War was always glorified wtf lol. I remember playing all the original cods, moh, it was hype as fuck. It was a spectacle, it was glorious. MW1 was the first game to go full hollywood in the cod series. It's all just an evolution of that.

Also I swear fortnite doesn't even have a gambling element to it does it? You just buy the skin you want. CSGO was the first big western game where gambling cases blew up if I remember correctly.

not true at all, cod has been like this longer than not and it was before fortnite even existed, BO2 and ghosts had all kinds of MTX for wacky non-military camos, like the anime gun skins, and voiceovers, advanced warfare and WW2 had lootboxes with all kinds of silly emotes and gear, like samurai gear and clown masks in advanced warfighter, and this was YEARS before fortnite.

This just kept going for years until fortnite launched and then later finally had their first collab skin in 2018; it's the other way around, fortnite copied COD because they saw how much money COD was making with these.

Thing I don't understand is why can't they have tasteful character customization, all these games are so noisy that it's actually a detriment to the gameplay. There's nothing wrong with wanting the customize your character, but why does everything have to be so garish?

Destiny has also started to experiment with skins like these (e.g. the street fighter stuff they recently did).

I understand some people like the military look and I do as well. I enjoyed it years ago but honestly we have had 21 mainline COD games. Using the same combat outfits is a bit played out.

I personally really like the bright colors and sci fi/ fantasy look of modern COD. That was one of the reasons Vanguard was one of my least favorite and Cold War was amazing ; the color palette. Infinite Warfare is also one of my favorites for that reason.

I am not going to convince anyone herebut just pointing out I (and probably lots of other people) like seeing what the art team can do when not restricted by reality.

Call of Duty is so confusing to me. Personally I have had fun with some of the games such as Modern Warfare (2007), and Black Ops (2010). I never stuck with them though. My last COD I bought was in high school and it was Modern Warfare 3 (2011). Once I realized I was just playing the same game with new levels, and new war scenarios I checked out. It's not that those games were bad but I was tired them. I grew up and I found out I was interested in other games. I was also starting to take music and art more seriously in my life so my interest in video games was changing. Now I see it advertised and I just think wow this looks like the same game that I have played already with new graphics and no interesting new gameplay that can innovate and create a new experience. I recently have been pondering the thought about some of the greatest fps games I have ever played and I don't think a single Call of Duty would make that list. The games do not have interesting physics to play with such as Half Life 2 or Halo 3. It doesn't feel as tight and quick as Quake or Doom Eternal. It doesn't have an immersive world that I can explore for hours on end such as Bioshock. It's befuddling to me that a game that is as cookie cutter and basic as Call of Duty sells so much ever year with no innovations or creativity. I wonder how the people that created that original Call Of Duty in 2003 for PC feel now seeing what they have created just become whatever Activision wants to publish that year.

I was not aware Call of Duty have become Call of Fortnite.

Glad I didn't bother with the series. An absolute joke.

Meh. It's not exactly sacrilegious to reskin a mp character in a videogame.. I say remove that stick up the arse, why so serious. Let people have fun and clown around a bit. There's always Arma if the drab and dry mil sim is more your thing (I for one like both types of games btw).

I remember CoD was in that gaming competition show. That was cool to watch.

I was a MoH player back then and only jumped in with MW.
