It failed ONLY because of woke witch hunt in a place there was none. 1 cutscene, 15 seconds from first 15 minutes of the game and then memed forever on twitter.

Games failure or not HAS NOTHING TO DO with quality of said games. This is truth more often than not.
Some of out fav cult classics (idk like sytem shock 2, ico, silent hill2) sold like shit and were failures.
And some of best selling games ever are pure shit like cod games on worse year.

Again, it seems like you guys are unaware of this simple concept called "potential sales".

Let me change the example so it makes more sense to you:

If GTA 6 sells 50 million copies by the end of its life span, wouldn't that be considered a disappointment compared to GTA 5? Not when compared to the industry at large, but when compared to the GTA franchise sales potential, it for sure is, right? And something clearly went wrong there.

Exactly, TLOU2 wasnt a flop, but it underperformed massively vs expectations, same way if gta6 sold only 50m or even 100m copies lifetime, it doesnt mean it sold badly or that if flopped, it just means it sold massively less copies vs gta5 which already sits at 205m+ copies.

It failed largely thanks to that cringe trailer with god awful dialog and the subsequent clips that came out.

And Kotaku and Polygon actually attacked the game for not being woke enough.

Hard disagree. Good games that only appeal to a small section of the gaming community might not do as well as expected. But bad games will almost always fail to meet expectations.

Truly great great games will always do well.

It's all from the same, single trailer that is first 10 minutes of the game.
And yeah - the game is not woke at all but people though it was based on nothing

There were definitely other clips of cringe dialog after that first one. Just another example of how important it is to have a character people actually like and want to play as.

There's not alot of games that didn't find relative commercial success that are regarded as classics years later. You need to look at failed platforms or partnerships ( gamepass is a recent example) to find what you re saying.

The steam top ten also consists of some all timers btw.

I think 2 things can be true at once.

-They seem to be pandering to a specific audience and it's mostly not the audience that actually buys games.

-Their gameplay and presentation in all their games are fantastic and very polished.

Yes it would, by some because people are stupid. People also forget that TLOU had an online mode that was liked by most. TLOU2 didn't have an online mode. GTA5's huge sells post 50+ million are probably mainly due to GTA Online.

Now what if GTA6 was released with NO ONLINE component and sold 50 million? I'd consider that a raging success like no other.

The criticism towards Naughty Dog and Neil Druckman is completely justified. Naughty Dog and Neil Druckman represent everything wrong with modern gaming. Naughty Dog, a game studio that once released 4 games(2 being new IPs) during the PS3 era has done nothing but remasters for the the PS5. The PS5 is going on year 5 and we don't even have a release year for their first PS5 game. Crazy. Then there is Neil Druman, an activist who clearly would rather be working in Hollywood than the games industry.

People make games, not studios so a studio's track record is meaningless if the people who made the great games no longer work at the company. Bioware, Rocksteady, Bungie, Volition, etc all had amazing track records but we all know how their recent games ended up. Gaming has changed so much over the last ten years that at least for me I dont give any legacy AAA developer the benefit of the doubt. If Naughty Dog wants people to be excited for their next game they need to give us a reason to be excited and nothing shown in that trailer does that.
 
Listened to this the other day. Hard disagree with some things Colin is saying. And disagree with the others as to why people have such strong feelings against TLOU2. Killing Joel WASN'T a natural way for his story to go! At least not in my eyes. He didn't deserve to die just because Druckmann decided to make that bitch the daughter of the doctor that he killed! What a terrible story decision and a convenient way to kill a character that many people grew VERY attached to. THAT is the reason people were upset with that game AND with Druckmann, and not because he is "woke" or whatever...

And at the end of the day, Colin think TLOU2 is a top 5 game of all time. I disagree completely with that statement. It's not even a better game than the newest God Of War, and that wouldn't crack my top 500 of all time! Gameplay wise it's fine. Story wise it shits the bed IMO. I mean, I can only compare TLOU2 to the BEST story in gaming, Silent Hill 2, and unfortunately for Druckmann and his "deep and meaningful" story, it falls completely flat against the GOAT every single time.

50 million would be a disappointment for Grand Theft Auto 6 because
(1) It's a quarter of the sales of Grand Theft Auto 5.
(2) It's only selling 4.5 million copies or less per year.
(3) This game has one of the biggest budgets ever for a video game.

This isn't comparable because 10 million is not the life time sales of Part II.

At 15 million in sales, then that means The Last of Us sold about 9 million more copies.

10 million life time sales WOULD be a disappointment for Part II, but know the game is still selling and will continue to sell with the PC release and a likey boost from the HBO series.

Joel made a selfish decision for a group that was committed to finding a cure, and in doing so that's not without consequences, that was the entire point of the sequel and it was a bold move but it seemed pretty natural to me. Doesn't mean that it HAD to be that way, but it logically makes sense why it did.

Whole gta series has sold over 435m copies, since we know gta5, which is only gta with online mode, sold 205m, it means other games in the series sold 230m copies alltogether, so 0 problem for gta6 to sell 50m copies even w/o any online mode as long as its decent game(doesnt even need to be 10/10 95+ metacritic either).

He wrote the first game, so he has a right to say how the 2nd one is written. You don't think it's a literally much to say "YOU" as a normal person sitting at home get to say how the main character in the first game is treated in the 2nd game?
 
It's hard for people not to think of modern politics when they see that character. I'm going to wait and see cause it's Naughty Dog.

The choices for this game were likely made during Covid though. 😕

Some people don't like to have a real conversation about that part, because Joel was their favorite. But you're right. Joel was 100% selfish in the first game and did things that affected the lives of people in the TLOU universe. That's revisted in TLOU2 and we see how much it pissed people off from that universe. It happens and it's very well done in TLOU2.

No one is denying ND's ability as a developer.
We just don't like what it's wrapped in.
I don't wish no ill date towards them but care very little about their output if they're all filled with unlikable characters.
What is sad is people not being able to accept this and move on.
There's is more conversations from Druckmann fans about "why don't you like his games" then haters rant's about not liking his games.
You know the answer but refused to accept it and come up with conspiracy theories that people just hate the man for no reason.

She was fine as a character because she wasn't a "girl boss" but a normal female lead. Older Samus so to speak.

In my mind it's like complaining that Max Payne (perhaps from 2 even) is not a stud.

That aside I really dislike the direction ND has taken over the last years and it completely turned me off their games. Actually vast majority of Sony titles are like this now.

I don't have much faith in Ghost 2 either after TLOU2, Spider-Man 2, Horizon 2and God of War 2. Which is ok I guess since they are entitled to make their games and I am entitled not to buy them.

It will probably save me money long term as I won't be buying a PS5 Pro, PS6 and paying for Sony's online.

Far too early to make any judgements. The drama over hair is hilarious to watch. Some of the comments on here are insane.

It's clear that they were going to get a "reaction" from this. I'm not sure why, we've seen Ripley, GI Jane etc. if she is masking her appearance then so what. If she likes to be bald, then so what.

The actress coming at people on social media is always a bad look. These celebrities are millionaires, they live totally different lives than us. It doesn't mean that we should abuse them, and they should accept if they have a social media account it's going to be filled with rubbish…..like everyone else's. Simple solution to it all, delete your accounts and move on with your life.

His track record is not so stellar when the last Uncharted and TLOU he directed are a downgrade from previous entries in the series, and that is while enjoying first party AAA budgets and maybe the best team in the industry.

Even if player was Owen, so the guy in that scene, it would feel disgusting af coz abby has very manly figure/body as a result of taking performance enhancing drugs(male hormones, among other shit).
