21 years to make a full circle

Quite insane how 2025 is 2004 redux

Should be an amazing year if not plagued by delays, GTA 6 especially which I doubt won't be delayed.

Kinda crazy how they first promised MP4 during the Switch's early life. Even since the apology and reboot it's been a minute. Most definitely going to be a showcase title for Switch 2 at this point, similar to BoTW being delayed to launch with the Switch.

San Andreas, Metal Gear Solid 3, and Doom 3 were awesome. Doom 3 is still my favorite doom.

Hopefully a new Resident Evil game next year since there were two Resident Evil games on 2004.

Cannot fucking WAIT for the Fable release...

The days of being who you wanted to be, a boy or a girl, kicking chickens and shooting gargoyles that took the piss out of you to that monstrosity.

I wouldn't call that year "sub par" (really dumb comment) but none of the games listed as the start of this 'circle' really did it for me back in 2004. There was so much goodness released that year and for me that was Zero Mission, World of Warcraft, Chronicles of Riddick, Half Life 2, Halo 2 and Paper Mario among others.

Though I'm a bit more on board with the upcoming releases of *most* of those games.

coincidence and sequels.
anecdotal
ignoring all the other games that we don't know will come out too

I loved MGS3 og 2004 release, played it in 8th grade a half dozen times, but it did not reach classic status overnight. Lots of casuals did not like the overhead camera and it sold like half of what MGS2 did.

The big dogs of 2004 were San Andreas, Halo 2, and Half-Life 2. Quality or personal preferences aside, there is an argument that Halo 2 can be considered the first traditional AAA blockbuster. That thing was massive.

I'm tired, boss.

Really? Looks like an amazing year

Metroid Prime 4, imagine that. Doom Dark ages looks like a return to 2016 epicness, GTA 6.. I mean cmon, Florida man, that's got to be peak GTA humour. Fable looks mind blowing and MGS 3 looks to be aiming to beat Silent Hill 2 as the best remake. Monster Hunter, surely that's not something to spit on?

Metroid Prime 4, Metal Gear, and Doom for me. The others... not so much. MP4 is definitely top of that list - I really hope the Switch 2 is up to the task of running it properly.

Really. Letting my disdain for GTA aside let me tell you out of my head how many new fresh games I remember from the HD generation:

-Bioshock.
-Mass Effect.
-Lost Planet.
-Crackdown.
-Gears of War.
-MotorStorm.
-Heavenly Sword.
-Uncharted.
-Dead Space.
-Mirror's Edge.
-Portal.

Yeah, some where better than the others but none of them were a sequel. PS4 onwards has been a dark age for the triple A industry with no one willing to take any risks. And don't tell me to play indies. I want it all like it's 2008: innovation and production values.

LOL at people treating GTA VI like it's just another AAA game. It's the biggest game in the history of gaming. They've studied every possibility, and it will launch exactly as planned. There's a ton of money at stake, you have to understand that.

Girl Why Dont We Have Both GIF

Sequels and new franchises are good

Some of my all time favorite games are sequels

Super Metroid
System Shock 2
Half-Life 2
Portal 2
DMC 3
Silent Hill 2 & 3
Resident Evil 4
Elder Scrolls
Final Fantasy XII
Fallout New Vegas
Witcher 2 & 3
etc.

2025 has PLENTY of new franchises,
Avowed
The first berserker Khazan
Judas
Clair Obscur
Hell is Us
Replaced
Mecha Break
Marvel 1943

🤷‍♂️

Seems like everyone is eating well

Well since we are at it can someone please bring back Battle for Middle earth instead of making a bunch of crappy Girlboss LOTR shows and anime?

I know Metal Gear Solid Delta fits better (same company, same series, literally the same game), but I like to think on Death Stranding 2 as 2025's Kojima game in relation to 2004's Metal Gear Solid 3.

Based on the games listed, maybe. When did people stop hating Doom 3? The first Monster Hunter wasn't anything special, either (same could be said for Fable as a whole, tbh).
Wut, of course Monster Hunter was special, kickstarted the whole online RPGing deal for consoles alongside Phantasy Star Online and FFXI. It wasn't a crazy success, but the later PSP port was, then 2's port sold double and so on, until it became a Japanese staple and the last couple gens a ww one.

I guess I'm just one of those who saw it as a bigger deal on PSP and Wii.
