The main reason I want this to do well is to have AMD remain at least somewhat competent instead of dropping off a cliff for GPUs. Intel is fighting through the hard part right now but they finally released a good product. If the rumored pricing is real then there is a chance that it can do well but the problem is that the nvidia marketing already owns so much headspace that people will see this card and probably downplay it because of muh MFG or some other feature that may be missing or even something like ray tracing which somehow is far more prevalent than ever but remains incredibly uninteresting outside of a few outliers(also for nvidia marketing). I won't be giving AMD my money this gen just due to having a 4090 already but just hoping they get a win for the sake of the people.

I want AMD to do well for this because

1. they have the best linux support of the 3 companies atm and honestly that should be about as big of a selling point as AI upscaling, if not even bigger
2. Intel's support for older games is too dicey for me to want to jump into their GPUs (though their efforts are super, super impressive!)

But TBH even if the RT was improved (all they need to do at this point to be a major competitor again) i'd still probably go for Nvidia due to that Transformer DLSS and all of their work with RT to make it look better & run faster. They are leagues ahead. Just when AMD gets to the previous high they set a new standard yet again.

At least the new AMD cards are futureproof with the RT and the upscaling.

A 16 GB 4070 would have to have been a 256-bit bus., not a 192 bit. It would've added costs.

Considering Nvidia's margins, they could bear it. Ok, price it at $525 then.

The real answer is is Nvidia is greedy AF and AMD can't provide enough competition because they are incompetent whether in engineering, software stack, marketing or all three depending on the generation.

To postpone 5070 cards till March is ridiculous and all it will accomplish is let Nvidia build up hype again.

Why do you even care about RT performance for the 70% of remaining titles where AMD performs well if by your own logic and admission RT is a gimmick in those games that does not improve visuals? So why should anyone care about average RT charts that include those games? We are better off turning off RT for those games right?

What i meant with that post is the segmentation of cards by target resolution to be able to play the latest games at max settings

I have this theory that AMD may have been surprised by all the FGx4 marketing. Maybe AMD will prepare their own FGx4 (they already have FGx2) during these two months, and then they can market RDNA4 GPUs in similar way as nvidia.

I don't think FG 4X is the issue here. Even most sites and gamers are calling it a gimmick to pad fps numbers.
I think AMD was not able to prepare the launch sooner than this. Between stock, drivers and FSR4, they are not ready yet for launch.
So they could launch now, and get everyone angry at a paper launch.
Or wait 2 months and get things right from the start.
It sucks to have to delay the launch of a game, of GPU, or any other product, but it's worse if it's released when it's unfinished.

People kept arguing with me after CES when I called this launch a trainwreck, but it's increasingly looking like I'm right.

When you've worked in a modern retail environment (I personally worked the supply chain side of the equation), you can easily spot the tell-tale signs when a launch is struggling and facing issues, and they had them all over from minute 1.

I would be shocked if they manage to salvage this, Nvidia has fucked them very hard this gen from a retail/marketing perspective:

• Announced lower-than-expected pricing for 5070, which is clearly squeezing AMD's margins.
• Extended DLSS4 features across 2-3 back gens, potentially giving these old cards some more life, the owners of those cards are typically the guys who are in the market for a card today, so they either go for what they know (5000 series), or they stick with their cards for one more gen (which fucks AMD because they have cards on the shelves for these people).

$600 is good but not amazing price. If they can match 5070Ti, and come close to it in RTX/FSR then it's fine. However it does mean cards will go for probably close to €750 in Europe. Still better vs likely €900+ Nvidia.

He's also a blatant AMD fanboy, claims Nvidia are always rushing and panicking things whilst AMD are these technical gurus who are one with the customers or some crap.

I still remember how he tried downplayed Lovelace before it's launch, claiming that it would be hot and loud, and that Jensen bumped up the power last minute so that they could remain competitive with RDNA 3... he could not have been more wrong and if anything it was Lovelace which ended up much more efficient than RDNA 3.

If true, this just dumb. Trying to half-ass FG4 in couple of month and then very likely to get hit by reviews for worse quality.

But that certainly seems like AMD's style alongside marketing stupidity. At least for AMD it looks like Nvidia prices are going to be worse than we thought with AIBs and supply will be less.

Plus 5070/5070Ti will have their paper launch in February sometimes.
