That's heavily based on word of mouth though, right?

If word of mouth and initial reactions are negative that would hurt weekend digital sales / player numbers.
Maybe, who knows? People may have pre-ordered the game and are waiting to play. I'd wait for Friday night and Saturday though to see what numbers look like as this will be when most people are able to play.

Assassin's Creed is normie fuel.

Anyone who assumes that reddit arguments will impact word of mouth for this is probably mistaken.

82% Positive on Steam. Not bad at all.

The shit app makes zero difference to play vs playing on Steam.
yeah, but its a common thing that PC players usually don't like other launchers, even games that are available day one on game pass tend to hit higher numbers on steam, for example, Starfield on launch hit 300K CCU on steam and it was "free" for gamepass users.

so using SteamDB as a metric of how well the gaming in doing on PC isnt really that crazy imo, sure, like Topher Topher said, a lot o ppl ( he included ) ll be playing this though Ubi+ but these aren't sold copies and they ll tank the game revenue somehow.

at the and of the day you play where you want, but i think ( and thats is my opinion ) for a dev big as Ubisoft and a IP big as AC 25K on release is really low.

Outlwas released on Steam, 3 months later.
Shadows is releasing on Steam, on day one.
So they are not good points for comparison.

Didn't the old AC games require Ubi Connect even on Steam? I think I read that they took that requirement out for Shadows. If so, then it makes the 25k look even worse.
It's full price on Steam and cheaper on the other store fronts.

People prefer steam but I wouldn't think they would want to pay $20+ extra just to get the game on steam over the other options.

LOL, sry, but english is not my native language ( obviously ) and i dont like to use translation tools since i prefer to practice by myself, so there ll be a lot o mistakes like that :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Not if it releases on a weekday, in the middle of the night for an entire continent.

People are working right now, and last night they were probably sleeping.

Starfield release was September 6 2023 a Wednesday ( middle of the week ) and did 330K CCU while was "free" on Gamepass and i dont thing ( again ) that AC ip has less brand recognition the Starfield do be doing this less numbers.

Every other AC game was on Ubi Connect "only" so people already bought the library there. Why would anyone buy just this one on Steam and "split" the library??

This game is going to sell more on consoles, and I'll be looking at this Sunday's peak CCU before drawing any conclusions in any case.

AC is such a mainstream franchise and reviews seem to be decent - it'll sell reasonably well no matter what. Will it save Ubi? Hell no

Ubisoft bought itself another...5 years or till the next Assassins Creed.

Estimates put the cost of the development of Shadows at 250-350 Million dollars.
It's going to take a lot of copies to make that money back.
And a lot more to keep the company afloat for another 5 years.

Ok, i would prefer to have the game on my library of 300+ games than on my library of 4/6 games, well, ppl play where they want, i just saying that i think is a little odd, but hey, maybe i m wrong, lets see how long ll take for Tencend to buy out Ubi after this release.

Less odd than needing to link 2 accounts vs just using 1.

I dont' think i was never bound to explode upon release on PC. I think it will do well on consoles where the majority of their audicence is. Then, if the game's really good and sticks it will have legs on PC as it will get expousure through discounts and sales. I think amazon sales numbers for PS5 are a much better indication of this games success or failture than Steam CCU.

I personally don't think Its going to do enough. It will be profiteable but it won't fix Ubi's dire need of a smashing success. They'll benefit from taking a bit of air from it. On the reception side I'm 100% sure this game isn't going anything reputationally for Ubi. The game can be good but it won't be good enough to make people forget the odd choices within and how exploitative their games have been with customers for the longest time.

If they chain several games that are good, can be loved without reservations or drama they may be able to gain the favor of the audicence again but I don't think this company could pull a Capcom ever. Hope I'm wrong though.

This is flopping and you are in denial imho.

I will give you one thing. We aren't 100% sure yet, but I suspect this one will end up well below expectations.

Any time you have to justify that "oh it sold better on consoles" you are probably screwed.

I could be wrong, we don't know yet for sure, but I suspect we see some articles about this in the near future that are very telling. How long until we discovered Veilguard was a huge flop? I remember a period of weeks where everyone thought it sold well and was a success. I remember Scherier's tweet. Top the charts! Don't celebrate early fellas, we don't know anything yet.

Also, remember the PC has a much higher tolerance for woke than console gamers. Just look at veilguard. It was a huge hit on PC. It was us PS5 owners that never bought it(you are welcome). Might be the same with this woke game here.

I'm not spending money on this regardless, but did they finally make it less grindy? Valhalla was a massive time sink with no reward and has soured me from wanting to play future titles.

Its not quite and apples to apples comparison.

Shadows is the first game released to not require Ubisoft Connect. I'd say that is pickung up a lot of players from that service.

Just a guess. No way of knowing.

Yeah.....Outlaws also came to Steam three months after launch.

I have 500 people on my PS friends list, of that roughly 50 are active at a given time and it's usually the same group of people. Out of those there are 8 that have it as recently played.

Far better than Veilguard even though it was a PS+ game.

I'm actually surprised.

Starfield was one of the biggest hyped games in recent years. From the creators of Skyrim?

An AC game is never going to flop, under-perform maybe. But it's never going to flop, it just has too much franchise and brand power to flop.

AC Unity was a disaster for them and Syndicate still sold pretty well as far as i am aware and that was still when the games were annual

like i said, imo AC should be in a bigger place since is a highly recognized brand, even if i dont use Starfield as reference, AC Shadow is bellow DAV 70K CCU on a thursday.

i may be taking crazy pills for thinking that 35K for a game/brand the size of AC is low when compared with another game of same size and recognition, but time ll tell.

Most people in Europe are working at 15:20 during a weekday, or at school. Here in The Netherlands its also great weather, Im going for a walk rn not playing a game

And like most people said including me, keys were very cheap for Ubiconnect, 48 euro's. On steam its what 70 euro?

I wouldnt buy it there full price unless I wanted to be a thief of my own wallet

As I said, SteamDB is just a metric on how well game is doing on the Steam platform, since other platforms don't give us numbers, we can only speculate on what we have and that is the 35K CCU.

Time will tell if this game is a success or a failure, my last AC was Origin and I consider Black Flag my favorite, since them Ubi is kind of a miss for me, if this game is a success, Ubi will probably have legs to make another one, otherwise we may hear soon about Tencent acquiring them.
