Movies You’ve Watched Lately | OT | - 2025

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

Watched the first film in December, finally found time to watch the sequel. The same crew returns, including stars and and director, with larger budget, too. Seems like both Disney and Walden expected this to do even better. I was surprised this barely crossed half of the first films total cross, and after watching this, I see why. They went with more action, and less worldbuilding, and it just doesn't nail it's pacing lile the original film. It's still a fun watch, but now I'm not surprised they changed director (and publisher) for rhe third movie.

I watched "Green Book" (based on the very real Green Book travel book for black people) for the first time today. I was pleasantly surprised. For some reason, I thought it would be one of those sad films because of the era it was in but it was genuinely great! Viggo Mortensen and Mahershala Ali are national TREASURES!

Not sad? Hmm, I may have to check this out. I didn't think it'd be as emotional as 12 years a slave but that movie wrecked me.

My cinema visits of 2025:
Nosferatu 7/10
The Wolfman 3/10
Anora 8/10
The Brutalist 5/10
Mickey 17 5/10

You can probably add 1 or maybe 2 to each of those scores - I try to use the full scale, which sometimes makes scores seem more harsh than they should be. I think the ideal is that the scoring leaves room for a 10/10 which should be a very rare thing.

I didn't think Anora screamed Oscar winner, but on reflection (and after seeing The Brutalist) I realised I liked it more than I initially thought.

I am sorry, Brutalist fans, there are lots of things to like in that film but as a complete piece of work, I just did not love it. I liked the interval though. To be honest, it maybe should be a 4 for me. Phillistine that I am.

Watched Anora

I absolutely hate it when a film portrays someone playing a game, but they're clearly just mashing random buttons, usually the same one over and over, because that's how you know they're really gaming

I can't decide what's worse, actors pretending to play a game without actually doing anything or drinking from an obviously empty mug. You might think people don't notice, but trust me, we notice

Other than that, it was a decent film. But the guy who played Ivan? He was really trying to act his ass off. I just wasn't convinced

I only enjoyed that movie due to the nudity/sex scenes. She isn't my type but she still has a nice body. It was just weird to see that much nudity in it especially with how prudish Hollywood has became when it comes to attractive pretty actresses

Anora - In the end she is just a Whore-a Also this movie is a Snore-a 2/5

The set up takes over 45 minutes, and could have been done in 10 to 5. Drags out. It is interesting once they get into act 2, but that is about it. The ending you can figure out about 3/4th the way into the film. The girl won an oscar for yelling and screaming. What a disappointing film.

A film's quality should ideally stand on more than just its shock value or risqué elements

I've seen this kind of thing hundreds, if not thousands of times, and it's rarely interesting or exciting to me. If a movie relies on that to stand out, it usually doesn't have much else going for it

For me they don't add anything meaningful to the story and feel more like filler than something that enhances the movie

100%. They could've condensed some of the long, dragging scenes into a short montage, which would've been much more effective. I enjoyed it for what it was, but ultimately, I didn't think it was Oscar-worthy at all

I went to see Last Breath in the theater.

Based on a true story about a team of deep-diving oil pipeline maintenance workers who try to save one of the guys on their team after he gets abandoned on the sea floor.

The director also directed a documentary about the same story a few years ago.

It was refreshing to see an uncynical movie about a true story--with few embellishments--about people putting their lives on the line for someone else.

Last breath

Was looking for a movie like this, the great Woody Harrelson, you want to see this movie, the underwater stuff makes you uncomfortable in a good way.

Mickey 17

Just loved this movie, Robert Pattinson what a great actor. No one told me if it's a comedy movie but there's funny moments or it pretends to be serious.

Man, I don't know about this one. I was cringing through the entire first 45 minutes. The location and premise are pretty cool, but why does everything have to revolve around a love story? Maybe I'm just too bitter to appreciate it

Holding up signs to communicate makes sense, but the execution here just feels awkward. Then, out of nowhere, it cuts to them having a drum off with buckets pretending to be drums. It was bad.

The second half of the movie was a lot more entertaining. The special effects and action were surprisingly solid for a film like this, and I was really impressed by the sound design, it was outstanding

Eventually, you start to figure out what's going on. It's not that hard to piece together. I was hoping for something more unique but it's whatever.

Decent film, the 6.7 on IMDB seems fair.

In the Lost Lands

I don't know what I expected… but it was bad. Really bad. How in the world has CGI become SO BAD in mainstream Hollywood movie? Horrible… and the story… everything seemed so pointless I didn't even bother to check wiki if I missed anything. WHO FUNDS THIS?

Seraphim Falls
This was a nice surprise. In this western starring Pierce Brosnan and Liam Neeson, it follows these two characters and is a chase movie at it's heart. Only for the final act for it to become something else completely. I had fun watching through this film. Recommended.

Watched Nosferatu recently. Went to it expecting it to be way more scarier and gory than it actually is.

The pigeon part is disgusting though

Conclave

I was already wondering why modern Hollywood even bothers to make a movie about Christianity, let alone with a plot dealing with the Pope election.

Think no further GAF, at the end you will know. Once again it's proven the only religion that can be made fun of and criticised is Christianity.

The plot twist if you want to ditch the movie:

The new pope ends up being a biological women.

You can make this up man…

Watched The Last Action Hero the other night. Another I hadn't seen since I was a teen or younger, but I'm glad I rewatched it. What a movie should be. Just great fun for a few hours.

Presence (2024).

This is an awkward one as I can't recommend it yet don't regret watching it.
I entertained myself by doing small swimming moves with my hands when the spirit moved around 😁

I felt it was more an experiment best enjoyed on a "free" streaming service and at about 80 minutes run time you won't feel cheated of your time.

High plains drifter. - a small town grifter.

Movie is great. But it is funny to see the lead essentially rape 2 women but them be ok with it.

4/5.

Companion (2025).

Another one you can wait for streaming but still a good silly time.
Worth it for Sergey and his fabulous moustache 😄

Fist of Legend. This was recently added to iTunes (or whatever the fuck it is called now). It's one of my favorite Jet Li flicks but something feels off about this version from the subs, cuts, and even the music. I might be misremembering. I need to dig around and see if I have a physical copy somewhere. It's still a fun movie but somehow this version feels lesser. Maybe that's just nostalgia talking.

Fight or Flight - It is an alright movie. Lots of silly action and a very silly plot, full of silly virtue signaling. Overall fun though. 3/5

Continuing my found footage streak.

Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum.

Holy shit, 10/10. What a fucking banger. Probably one of the best found footage movies I've seen in a long while.

South Korean so some might find the hurdle of reading subtitles a bit off-putting, I'm not sure if there's an English Dub version of this, but it's free to watch on Amazon, Tubi etc.

Yeah, this is one of my favorite found footage horror films. I think it's quite good.

pretty much like the old Evil Deads in a different environment. Still solid fun.

Watched it with my wife recently. Hilariously bad but still hilarious :D

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Beach Party - A doc with Tom in the 80s finally released. It has some interesting interviews and conversations about his music. 3/5 movie 5/5 music.

Trust me, my taste is excellent.
I just watched the first half of it and I really hope there is an enlightning point at the end of the tunnel here because so far this was a commercial for one of the worst lifestyles and also a couple of scenes were indistinguishable from the stuff you see on pornhub. Like Pretty Women, only with much more sex scenes, an uncharismatic hooker and brat instead of a charming one and a businessman.

Wishlisted.

I always loved Mickey Rourke.

I'm revisiting his Golden Age of the 80's and rewatching Year of the Dragon directed by the great Michael Cimino.

What a great fuckin' movie 😃

Rourke oozes charm and grit with his white hair before he changed his face.

Just finished and boy, what a ride. The first quarter I explained already, the second quarter was even worse. The screaming and profanity legitly made my blood boil and I had to quit and take a walk (dead srs here). Then in the evening I finished the movie and… it kinda turns itself around in the final hour or so and does pan out well. Glad I stuck to it because the ending was quite powerful. For long stretches of the movie I seriously thought they want to send the wrong message here. Can recommend after all. THX clarky clarky

Phew, thought I'd sold you a dud there, glad you enjoyed it in the end.

For a Saturday night drunk watch you could do a lot worse. Low end of a 7/10.

Also didn't realise this dude is Dennis Quads son.

Novocaine

Didn't plan on watching this in theaters, but it was running when I was around and had time. Glad I did, because I enjoyed it. Most jokes land well, and it doesn't overstay it's welcome. Only the final act takes a bit too long to finish.
