5 Ways Assassins Creed: Shadows Outshines Ghost of Tsushima

Ghost of Tsushima cost $60 million to make before marketing and sold more than 13 million copies. I mean you can try to dunk on a cross-gen 5 year old game but…

It actually made a lot of money at the same time Ubisoft shareholders was losing theirs.

Arriving a little late to the party, with Ghost of Tsushima already having explored the iconic setting, here are five ways it manages to outshine Sony’s classic.

5-reasons-to-be-hyped-for-assassins-creed-shadows-4-1536x864.jpg

- Enhanced Stealth Mechanics: Assassin’s Creed Shadows offers a sophisticated stealth system with a Splinter Cell-inspired visibility meter and dynamic weather affecting gameplay, surpassing Ghost of Tsushima's focus on swordplay.

- Dynamic World: Shadows features destructible environments and a weather system that alters the game world, providing a more interactive experience than Ghost of Tsushima's visually impressive but static setting.

- Improved Parkour: The shinobi protagonist Naoe in Shadows enjoys a revitalized, fluid parkour system, outshining the more limited climbing mechanics in Ghost of Tsushima.

- Historical Integration: Shadows weaves real historical figures like Yasuke, the first Black samurai, into its narrative, offering a grounded story compared to Ghost of Tsushima's fictionalized approach.

- Dual-Protagonist Variety: With Naoe and Yasuke, Shadows provides diverse gameplay styles, contrasting with Ghost of Tsushima's single-character focus, adding depth to the experience.

I'll wait to see after they fix some bugs, because the stealth regularly fucking straight up broke when I watched mutliple streams of it.

Shadows looks cool from all the gameplay I’ve seen my spouse play. I played GoT to the credits back on PS4. Will I myself play Shadows? Nope. It’s not that I wanted something better than GoT. That was a good time. I just don’t get that excited about dialogue heavy sandbox games that often. Both are good. Shadows has good graphics.

What fun is it to wait 5 years to say Shadows is better? I liked the main character in GoT more. He looked cool in a mask.

I have seen my wife’s game crash multiple times and other games it doesn’t crash at all.

I have played Shadows but all 3 latest AC games outshine ghost of Tsushima and I particularly didn't really like Valhalla. But Tsushima is only a game of presentation and style, the rest is very hollow and the samurai combat so bad like if they learned nothing about sword gameplay those last 20 years.
i have no stake in this 'who's better than who' contest, but, as a long-time sucker punch fan, & having played tsushima, yes, this is indeed dead on. often stunningly gorgeous, but otherwise easily the most unimaginative game that the studio's ever made...

Have you played both?
I played GOT on my ps4 and its was fantastic. Good combat, great graphics, beautiful world, and good story. I havent played AC Shadows ,but i watched a live youtube playthrough by Vara Dark to evaluate if Im going to buy this game or not. Yes it has fantastic graphics especially on ps5 pro, anvil engine is great, but for me GOT is still much better both in combat and story. Even if I ignore the woke agenda twisted gender ideology in the game, ( the romance with binary and same sex) for me GOT is still a miles better and more epic and scale and story and lore.

Do you happen to work for Ubisoft by any chance OP?

This blatantly AI generated pointless thread aimed at manipulating people into buying Shadows is pathetic. The way you listed ‘Historical Integration’ and ‘Dual-Protagonist Variety’ in a positive light as if these things have been handled with any kind of tact is laughable. You do realise the game has been at the focus of an intense backlash due to a myriad of historical inaccuracies and cultural insensitivity right? The DEI integration concerning Yasuke who isn’t and never has been an actual Samurai has angered many.

This thread should be removed as it is suspiciously and overtly manipulative in nature.

GoT has a much better story and combat, imo. The parkour and stealth.....eh......not really seeing the improvements. Also, the English voice acting is a bit of a joke in Shadows. The characters overall are just better in Ghost.

Graphically, Shadows is superior with the great use of RTGI. Fun game too. I just enjoyed Ghost more.

OP didn't write this. It is a linked article.

The shilling for this utterly standard UBI open world schlock is quite a sight to be hold.

Make sure to buy the special edition lads. And get your digital Dorito coupon too.

people still want to tell me that there definitely isn't a damage control system going on for Ubi in games media right now.

I'll say it again, it's in the entire industries best interest for this game to be a success, not just Ubisofts.

Why even write an article like this :messenger_tears_of_joy: , when was the last time you saw "Why astrobot is better than Mario" or "Why Call of Duty is better than battlefield".

If the game is good enough it will stand on it's own merits.

Agreed on all 5, especially stealth which was really undercooked in Ghost, despite the name. On the other hand, as much as I love Shadows I think samurai combat in GoT was superior. And that Yotei will be the better game this year all things considered.

Tbh even though I'm not a huge fan of AC, Ghosts of Tsushima isn't what I'd call a great game either. It's good in certain aspects but I just never felt that engaged in it and have dropped it twice now around the 10 hour mark.

AC looks much the same in that I don't think I'd play more than 10-15 hours before yawning and turning it off. The graphics do look incredible though, I've been tempted to play it just to take in the atmosphere.

This is cogconnected. They have been writing clickbait like this for years. If they thought "5 things Ghost of Tsushima outshines Shadows" would get more clicks then they would write that. And they probably will.

I legit thought this post was satire until I got to the link at the end.

Like how could this possibly be real I can't even

This would be a part of that problem, there is a reason I didn't click the link despite my curiosity to verify this could be real lol

I gotta say this game has really done well to trigger so many people for different reasons.

I wonder who'll be next to get upset.

I can't think of a SINGLE thing Ghosts of Tsushima does better than Shadows.
Literally not even one thing.
English voice acting and more striking art design/use of colors (?)
Combat animations are also a bit more refined/better chained but it's a coin toss.

Maybe the music?

I don't know about outshining GoT, but doesn't AC Shadow still suffer typical Ubisoft game bug? It's a running joke at this point that every single Ubi game that they have released suffers from some minor glitch to stability issues.

All games have bugs, they’re are really complex pieces of software, covering everything is impossible.

Now, if you’re talking about game breaking bugs where progress is halted, I haven’t seen any, and believe me, people would jump on Ubi’s throat if there was one.

Would Ubisoft even make Assassins Creed Shadows without Ghost of Tsushima been on the market first?

Ubi have had demands for a game to be set in Japan from a long way back, so the idea is not innovative.

However, from a political perspective, I think you are right to ask - GoT was the first major game set in Japanese history made by Western Developers (if you ignore the Total War Shogun games) and SuckerPunch doing this with success while being based in Washington would have given them the confidence to think that they could pull it off. Where SuckerPunch went right was they basically followed the Japanese view of the period and took no risks narratively. Ubi did what they wanted as usual and have obviously suffered for that/got great publicity (depending upon your perspective).

Exactly, the idea isn't innovative and Ubi had demand for years from fans but never did until Ghost of Tsushima hit the market and sold so well. Ubi knowing the market was there finally greenlit the game fans demanded. It's also obvious Shadows borrows many influences from Ghost.
