Even if it wasn't. Let's say the Switch 1 was priced ok. Nintendo haven't cut the prices of that damn thing. It Still cost $300 and $350. Saw the OLED for $340 last week in Amazon. Let's forget if the hardware was underpowered or whatever when it launched. 8 years and not even a $50 price cut.

Well, Im glad you started noticing Nintendo greed.

Sony doesn't look that bad now does it?

Also NSO is like $19.99 a year. I guess you could complain that they are prioritising online over offline gamers.

Did you read everything else? It isn't just NSO, it's also the amount of paid games and the amount of time played, plus allowing Nintendo access to your data.

You have to meet all those requirements to even be "initially considered". If you think that's fine, let me know how that boot leather tastes.

4K60?

feels game of thrones GIF
Prime 4 is 4K60, so it's possible. Might be less though of course.

Edit: why the lol SweetTooth SweetTooth ? Don't you think its possible that TOTK runs worse than 4K60 on Switch 2?

Yeah that's another thing that sucks.

The system will NEVER drastically drop in price. Forever 450-500 bucks unless you get a few bucks off from Amazon on Black Friday. Like come on man.

And if you're gonna drop 600+ on a system, what's another 100? Just get a Pro at that point.

Exactly just thinking of the Switch 1 which have never received a price cut. I expect the same for the Switch 2. For the OLED version? They will go for $499.

The text I am reading says:

"Invitation emails will be prioritized on a first-come, first-served basis to registrants who have purchased a Nintendo Switch Online membership with a minimum of 12 months of paid membership and a minimum of 50 total gameplay hours, as of April 2, 2025."

I interpret that to mean that if you have played at least 50 hours across any combination of titles, you are eligible. I don't see any mention of Nintendo prioritising people with more paid titles.

Their plan to beat scalpers.

However, it's a shit plan. There must of been something better than dick riding their most hardcore fans.

What are you talking about? This is one purchasing option from Nintendo's online store, for their best customers. The messaging is extremely clear and there is a long window for people to work with. Of all the things you picked to complain about in that Direct, I can not compliment Nintendo enough on how they're doing this. The only unknown at this point is just how many units will be available. But since it's first come first served, anyone who signed up shouldn't have an issue.

Once invitation emails have been sent to all registrants meeting the priority criteria, invitations will be sent to remaining eligible registrants on a first-come, first-served basis.

That's (sadly) why I will just buy one for launch even though the pricing is absolute dogshit and the lineup is hot trash

I'm part of the problem, I guess. But I still need a switch 2 to play their inevitable games I (rarely) enjoy

Wish they would just go third party. Garbage hardware and ecosystem

I'm not going to lie: the price of the console is... well, not cheap. But as soon as I saw the sensor that limits noise and picks up your voice perfectly, I immediately thought that the bill was going to be expensive.

Well, when it comes to games, there's no excuse.

Nintendo competitively priced the Switch coming from a position of weakness, developed and released during a period of extremely low inflation and interest rates. We are in a completely different environment economically (with constant threat of more tariffs), and Nintendo's brand has only ever been stronger during the NES/SNES days - so I am sure they priced the system high in response to those factors. I expect the console to remain in this price range throughout the lifespan of the console, unless they decide to increase costs through introduction of a mid-gen upgrade. It's expensive relative to the price now, and will effectively get cheaper over time. It's a little expensive yes, but not too off base.

The games on the other hand, that is where they are taking steps too far. I can see people eating the cost of the console because that is spread over years, but each game at $80 digitally is a cry too far. Even if this is only first party, I don't think it will stick. Plus all the extra nickles and dimes they are shaking people down for NS2 patches for Switch games and such. I don't see it happening.

No other priority criteria is given, other than: "registrants who have purchased a Nintendo Switch Online membership with a minimum of 12 months of paid membership and a minimum of 50 total gameplay hours, as of April 2, 2025"

So to me that means that after emails have been sent to everyone meeting those requirements, they will weaken the eligibility criteria.

They keep getting greedier and I don't understand how kids can convince their parents.
Edit: Or maybe it's not greed. They keep creating more expensive machines. But the question remains: How do kids convince their parents?
the parents are the ones buying. Parents of kids now are the folks that grew up with SNES and N64.

There will be a Switch 2 in the living room whether the kids asked for it or not

That is my interpretation as well, which is why I asked for an invite even though I don't have NSO and haven't booted my switch in a year

What sucks is that invites go out in May….after other retailers have pre orders, so what's the point unless you can't pre order at Best Buy or Amazon

This thing is going to reign over the summer season. It makes sense that Nintendo wanted to release the Switch 2 before fall, because GTA 6 will be ruling the holiday season like no one's business.

Does anyone know how much the BOM was for switch 1, this doesn't seem like a £400 machine there margins must be huge, ps5 and sx were a steal in retrospect

If they apply same price strategy here as with switch1 they've done a mistake with that price. This is even too expensive for fanboys. Let alone the Games never really drop in pricing comparably to Xbox or PS...

Can someone explain to me how pre ordering works?

I want to the website to register but I don't want to pay $500 to have it shipped if I'm selected.

I want to go to GameStop and trade in a Lite to pre order from them to save $100.

Is my best bet to go to GameStop April 9th right when they open to be first to get it from my local store? I assume Nintendo gave gamestops a set amount then GameStop has divided that up amongst all of its locations?

Or am I being too casual and need to just pony up $500 for the online delivery Nintendo shop?

Also, when in April 9th will this potential email come? 12:00 AM EST?

Nah man, too expensive for a nintendo console. Will stick to switch till they drop the price, but I don't remember them doing it for the switch 1 either.

they definitely saw sales, in the USA at least. I picked up my OLED switch at a discount shortly after it was released.

SlickDeals is what I use

Nintendo spent half their conference talking about third party console ports from ps5 type games

So it is fair to compare it as a console, that's what it is
So now it's fair to compare it as a console, whereas in the past, Nintendo are running in a different race as opposed to Sony and Microsoft... All of a sudden Nintendo is now in a console war with Sony cause 3rd party games are on Switch 2 like they were on the Switch???

And it's a hybrid console. Completely different to PS5 and Series X/S. The only way you can play PS5 games on the go is by spending how much more for the Portal...?

Guys, I'm super late. I've been with other media. I only need to know one thing: is Boji complaining as much as with the PS Pro?

Yeah but while James Sawyer Ford James Sawyer Ford would say that a turd with the 1995 symbol of PlayStation is a bargain, Boji is on the other side of the spectrum and is tad too critical with everything about the Pro. I wanted to know if he's consistent.

~ console price is not that bad (especially $ - Euro is not as fucked up as with some other hardware)
+ 120hz screen with VRR is not what most people expected, major plus
+ this is the ultimate machine to play Switch library (like PS5 was for PS4/PS4 Pro software)
- game prices are fucking ridiculous
- console is decent powerful for a handheld but still will be much behind even base PS5

I was always indifferent about Nintendo consoles, never even had one outside of nes clone in 1997. Switch 2 is somewhat interesting to me.

So honestly, fuck you Nintendo. It takes one to break the flood gates. If you set your game prices so high, other will follow.

This is why I might get one. There are a couple of Zeldas that I want to play and I can't bother with Dolphin and that kind of stuff. Not at launch, probably.

Especially if people can't help themselves buying it.

Gamers only have themselves to blame, again and again.
