I wonder what the connectivity will be on the dock.? It says 4k is limited to 60hz, which means it doesn't need higher than HDMI2.0 bandwidth, and that opens up questions about its handling of VRR across HDMI. Will Nintendo follow Sony's lead an want HDMI forum spec, or something more liberal like GSYNC.

What's the determining factor? Where a Switch 2 is actually manufactured ("Made in Vietnam") or where the main office of the company is located (Japan).
Yeah I'm pretty sure it's where it's actually manufactured. Otherwise any country could easily circumvent tariffs by having an office somewhere else or using another country to send their goods from.

Yep. Gaming in the USA is about to get a whole shit ton more expensive across the board.

No, gaming worldwide is going to get a shit ton more expensive. What's likely going to happen is that many manufacturers are going to raise prices not just in the US but worldwide (let's say by 10%),. In effect, the rest of the world will pay more so manufacturers won't have to raise prices in the US by 25% and price themselves completely out of that market. Trump's erratic economic decisions are going to drive up inflation globally and cause economic mayhem.

There's no way a Switch 2 would cost the same as a Switch Oled.
Lmfao! As some other posters have pointed out the Switch models are way overpriced to begin with. The Oled is the biggest joke of the lot. There is nothing in it justifying it's ridiculous price. Should be $249 and Switch 2 $349.

And given that Nintendo hasn't cut the price on any model since launch, I'm not sure why anyone would expect Nintendo not to charge a profitable price for this too.

4k 60 SDR is doable on 2.0
With HDR I believe it's not.

JFC. That's dangerously close to the PS5 price for a less capable system. Do we know the what the launch line up is yet?

The console price is fine for what you're getting, IMO. It's the game prices that are giving me pause. I'm not shelling out $80 for a game this decade, inflation be damned.

Mario Kart bundle already sold out at one of the game stores here. The bundle tbh price wise isn't too bad. If anything I would go for that but by the time I can get one it's probably gone forever. And I don't feel like paying 470 euros for console + 90 or 80 euros for the game.....not at all.

$699 in Australia without the Mario cart game. Game is $114 . You can get PS5 disc version Astrobot bundle for $724 vs SW2 Mario kart bundle $769.

Crazy!

I got an e-mail invitation from Nintendo letting me pre-order a console from the Nintendo store.

If we're talking about the same email, all it really said was "register" your interest. It wasn't a purchase or a preorder.

$80 digital games is WILD

Tbh they're not wrong but it still seems the premium should be on digital since they have mfr carts, boxes and all that

No it was an invitation to pre-order the console.

The price at $630 CAD base and $700 CAD with Mario Kart changes this from a yes to a maybe. I was hoping for $500 CAD. I wonder if this will be like the 3DS where Nintendo realized they overpriced it and had to drop it a few months after launch. I may be on the lookout for a fire sale Switch 1 ideally new or someone trying to ditch theirs for a Switch 2. Mainly just want it to play Mario Kart with the wife.

I'm sitting here curious what happens to retail pricing of the Switch 2 in the US after in country supplies are exhausted. Will Nintendo firewall the tariff situation to the country that deserves it with what would have to be a huge price increase, eat the loss basically paying the tariff themselves instead of consumers, or somewhere in between and spread the pain (unfairly) over other countries. Personally hoping for Option 1 as that's the honest outcome.

No doubt they baked in a certain amount, but pretty clear the end result is more than pretty much anyone expected. At the highest end I believe when it comes to likely locations for consumer electronics manufacturing.

The big launch game is Mario Kart World and then a long list of third party games. Then there's a bunch more releasing over Summer. Was there anything specific game you wanted the release day for?

Like I know it doesn't concern that many people but this is some shameful shit. Upcharge just to have multilanguage system?
Not really, its a way to reward locals (and guarantee supply) along with preventing cheap grey imports to China especially and probably the US as well with tariffs now.

It's their solution to the weakness of the yen. Then want to avoid imports without making the console crazy expensive and this is their solution. Which sucks if you live in Japan but don't speak Japanese.

I have 2 switch for my kids, bought in France so obviously Euro account. We live in Japan now, why should i pay premium to have multilanguage that's accessible at the basic console level? You don't see Sony doing this. Fuck that.

If this ends up happening I'm going to be very upset.

I doubt xpats in Japan are high on their radar. China buying out local Japanese supply on the other hand...
Yeah I know... Anyways that means a hard pass from me.

Price for Japan bar the software isn't that bad but it feels like Nintendo is late to the party on this one, feels like this should have released like 2 years ago.

I won't receive an email because while I have been using NSO, I am not the primary account. My friend is and he's using the family account sharing thingy. Ah well.

The system price is fine with me for the most part but its the game prices, potential code in a box bs and nickel & diming us for every little thing. For me there isn't enough new stuff to warrant a purchase for me yet. I can't stand apes and don't like the Kong games but that new 3D platformer looks really good, I love environmental destruction and that seemed well implemented. Waaaaay to many ports and stuff I've already seen or played. I'm leaning towards waiting for something more enticing to get me to buy.

I've been of the mindset I was out of Nintendo new stuff since the MK8D DLC, Wonder and Tears of the Creedom, but seeing the pricing of the games, the same joycon button failure of small face-button spacing causing accidental breaking or behind cam-view presses in MK - when not using a Pro controller - and then seeing the crappy MKW trailer, I've no fear of having any FOMO for this one.

Good luck new Nintendo!

What Sony did instead is to raise the price.

The equivalent would be for them to offer a "Japanese only" PS5 which costs 20,000 less. Which actually I think could work well.

They raised the prices indeed but they didn't create a tier system just for multilanguage.
This isn't the 80's anymore. A lot of foreign people working and living in Japan. Hell they even opened up digital nomad visas now.

Expats and refuse to integrate with the local language. Name a more iconic duo.

I actually don't mind the price too much as I have already a lot of switch games and I'm super patient for sales and price drops.

What I DO mind are region locks. I hate them. So it's becoming a pass for me.
