Movies You’ve Watched Lately | OT | - 2025

Novocaine

Didn't plan on watching this in theaters, but it was running when I was around and had time. Glad I did, because I enjoyed it. Most jokes land well, and it doesn't overstay it's welcome. Only the final act takes a bit too long to finish.
When i see a run time of under two hours the movie already has my attention and respect.

Borderline - (Bored-er-fine) This is a weird one. Movie is ok. There is one actress a french girl that goes crazy and she steals every scene she is in. 2/5

I've spent the last couple of weeks watching the MCU Phase 1 movies with my dad

I have to admit, I've got a soft spot for the Iron Man movies. The action scene at the end of Iron Man 2 is just incredible

The Avengers was the highlight. My dad didn't fully realize the movies were all going to come together for it, so it was pretty cool to experience that moment of surprise and excitement

Crank

This film is so unapologetically early 2000's cheap trash movie it's part of the film charm. This is something you just can't do anymore, it would piss so many people off. Had my fare share of laughs thorough the action-heavy 87 minutes the film lasts. It's stupid, and will never stop amusing me. I'll check out the sequel if I can find it somewhere.

Last Breath - Breath of fresh air. Not that anything is new or original about this film, just that it is good. And tells a good story. Great casting, great acting. I think it is made for TV but it doesn't feel like it. 4/5

Even before watching this movie you could never pay me enough money to work at the bottom of the ocean, After watching it I would feel safer going to space in a Boeing rocket than the job those guys did.

My son and I watched The Electric State tonight. It was infinitely better than I thought it'd be.

I wouldn't go out of my way to watch it but fun enough with a few good deaths. 6/10.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

The final film of the series of Walden Media went through some changed after Prince Caspian failed to meet expectations. Disney backed out, and Fox picked up publishing duties. A new director came on board and budget was scaled back. Especially the change in direction is apparent, as this film moves ahead like a train, and rarely makes stops. It's for the better of the film, although it also makes it a bit difficult to get on. It's a good film, but it's no surprise why the first film crossed to most out of these. It's by far the best out of all these three.

What Paul Verhoeven movies do I need to see besides his 87-97 stuff?

Soldier of Orange (1977)
Black Book (2006)

Both movies take place in WW2 and show different views of the Dutch resistance against the Nazis.

Baby Driver
Fun action movie with good actors, 7 going on a 8 /10. Surprised Lily James isn't Madchen Amick's daughter, had to check right after the movie.

I knew of a terrorist attack during Munich Olympics, but I didn't know how it ended. I was born long after the event anyway. This film follows the ABC sports news group, who end up on reporting on the terrorist attack. It's a well made and hooking film, nice 95 minutes of runtime also doesn't overstay it's welcome. Recommend.

Heretic

What a strange movie. Loved the first 45 minutes or so but at the point when the girls step into the cellar… it feels like they exchanges the script writing team. It just felt off… and I mean everything. What happens and the dialogue. Was quite disappointed. Thought there would be a cool answer to what the real religion is… the script has none.

7/10

A Christmas Story

My family took a roadtrip/college tours vacation for my daughter. We found ourselves in the Cleveland area, so we stopped at the house where this movie was filmed. Very nice place with a great tour and a museum across the street.
We watch this movie at least two times a year around the holidays, and we watched it last night after getting home with the tour & trivia fresh in our minds.

It was a surreal experience to watch a movie I have seen dozens of times and spot locations I was at not 48 hours earlier. I would recommend the tour and highly recommend getting a bite to eat at the Rowley Inn right across the street.
There's a tiny bit of film history with that bar/restaurant as well, great food, and fun to try to spot it in the movie!

Emilia Perez

What a fuck? I have never seen such bad musical acts. The story is completely absurd. Horrid film, everyone hates it but the Academy Awards.

1 out of 10

Dark Angel / I Come in Peace
Fun b-movie with interesting premise of space drug addicts. Bad acting, bad dialog, bad action, at least it's short. 4/10

Watched the George Romero Resident Evil documentary. Was alright. George's movie would have been better than Anderson's one for sure.... but not that much.

Watched John Carpenter's The Fog last night. Still holds up really well, keeps its spooky atmosphere throughout - a good flick for Halloween (and probably not March lol). Would have liked to see more about the ghosts themselves and less about the townspeople. I see that there was a remake / reboot, I fear that they probably ruined it, like most remakes.

Leprechaun 3

p16792_i_h11_ac.jpg

probably my favorite film in the series. I always though Leprechaun in the Hood was the high point, but the Vegas setting is great. Lee Armstrong wears her magicians outfit half the movie, and the magician himself is a great character

will watch Leprechaun 4: In Space tonight. I think I recall that one being pretty great as well.

Follow it up with Darabont's The Mist (black and white version preferably) if you haven't seen that one.

Watched a few things in the past couple days

On the surface The Alto Knights looks like it should have all the ingredients for a good gangster movie but it just doesn't click. DeNiro's dual roles just feel gimmicky. Maybe offering that is how they got him on board but it doesn't add anything. Maybe there's something to the idea of a gangster movie about the end of the golden age of gangsters, but The Irishman already did that far better. version of that

Novocaine was a really fun action movie. Jack Quaid does a fun extraordinary everyman and they do some inventive things with the set pieces playing of his character's ability.

I went into Black Bag knowing it was a spy film but expected it to be far more action-orientated. Instead it's more of an intrigue thriller, like a modern Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy that I really liked.

Watched Alien Romulus last night, so good best Alien movie in a long while. Teenagers being stupid and dying in the dumbest way will never not be a good time, I really liked what they did with Andy switching between barely functioning to high functioning and the Stark contrast in attitudes.

I think the ending was not well received and I agree it was not pulled off well, I like the idea of a newborn alien going after their mother and how creepy that may be but they made the alien look too goofy, should have leaned more towards looking like a xenomorph than a human.

The Last Boy Scout. Amazing movie, I didnt know there existed a proper 90s action film I hadent seen, but here it was. It starts with a football player pulling a gun out of his ass and shooting the players standing between him and a touchdown.

And 12 Angry Men. Classic, better than I expected.

Just picked up LOTR extended trilogy in UHD. Still excellent films but the SFX leave a lot to be desired by modern standards, lots of obvious green screen and such. The scale model practical effects show their limits at the end of The Two Towers, there's something about miniaturised destruction involving water that seems wrong. It's not just this film, it's something that's always been there in film, stuff seems to lack weight(for want of a better word) and it always looks like toys having a bucket of water thrown at them.

Overall, still 9/10 though.

"The Substance "
Finally got around to watching it, and I can see why Demi Moore was the front runner for the Oscar Award. Once it got to the finale I figured that's what cost her votes. Turned into an Evil Dead gore fest.
Not everything made sense but worth watching once. 7/10 for me.

Thanks NotMyProblemAnymoreCunt NotMyProblemAnymoreCunt for the recommendation 👀 👀 :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Loved it. Andrew Garfield was incredible. These slow burn movies are quickly becoming my favorite genre, if it even is a genre

The way Rodrigues struggled with his faith while witnessing unimaginable suffering was heartbreaking. Scorsese portrayed his inner conflict masterfully

The slow and meditative pace made the film hit even harder. One Scorsese's underrated works

I think the 7.2 on IMDB if more than fair

Drive

You know, there are times when the stars align and everything is perfect. At these times an average director pumps out a real masterpiece. Drive was that movie for Refn. Can't praise it enough. Also my favorite role for Gosling even before Blade Runner. Movie is soooo good.

Pusher Trilogy by Nicolas Winding Refn

#1 - Clearly inspired by Scorsese's Mean Streets. Distinguishes itself as one of the least glamorous portrayals of criminals, thugs, addicts, and dealers put to film. Hopeless degenerate losers living thoroughly pitiful lives.
#2 - An aloof ex-con trying to get back on his feet while everyone attempts to take advantage of him. Something of a coming of age story. Standout performance by Mads Mikkelsen (who had his acting debut in #1).
#3 - Balkan mode. Bleakmaxxing.

Overall these are interesting independent films from Refn. They are fully committed to an authentic portrayal of the low level underworld, even going so far as to almost entirely cast people from the street rather than professional actors, along with the handheld documentary camera work and naturalistic dialogue.. #2 is probably the best thanks to Mads and connecting with his character's humanity.

You had me sold until your very last word.

In honor of Val, I took down a white whale tonight and sat through Heat. I hate Natalie Portman with the fiery passion of a thousand burning suns so the movie presents a speedbump almost immediately. And if I'm honest, Al Pacino is rarely my flavor of tea. The star power in this movie is kind of nuts and it reminds me of Thin Red Line where every other scene was another A-List actor. I can see why people love this movie as the action scenes are a ton of fun , but the runtime is kind of insane and it feels like a lot of the side plots meander which made it hard to get invested in most of the characters. Val was a lot of fun to no surprise and it must have been a fun movie to be involved with as I'm sure he got to work with a ton of actors he admired. Tom Sizemore is always a treat and shoutout to Danny Trejo's death scene which I though was really well acted. Overall it's not for me but I'm happy to cross it off my list. Maybe one day I'll make it through Blade Runner.

Watched this last night. It wasn't terrible, but definitely not good either. The deaths were surprisingly uninspired for a movie with this kind of concept. You'd think with an idea like this, they'd go all out, but instead they showed bunch of cheap and unimaginative kills
