After Switch 2 reveal let me introduce you to PC handhelds

  • Heavy handheld
  • no physical games
  • steam os
  • terrible battery life
ewwnothanku

Dock not included

And going by Hogwarts legacy and Star Wars outlaw, switch 2 wipes the floor with deck

Without going into also all the annoyances of steam deck. I tried it on a friends and it's not always intuitive, it requires even more tinkering than a desktop. Online games being also mainly blocked because of anti cheats.

Laughable alternative to switch 2 and this is coming from someone who as you all know, is VERY pro PC

Can the PC handheld play switch 2 exclusive games ?

No ?

We done.

No need for back and forth msgs and explanations. Buying a hardware should be based on the games you want to play. Not on anything else.

They think an emulator will get up in running as fast as Yuzu. In for a rude awakening.

At least we've evolved from: do you know you can do that with a Raspberry Pi? God, I hated that. But yeah, the PC crowd are the Jehovah's Witness of the gaming world: I've entered the 4K bullshots thread and there was one guy like "here's how MK8 looks like on my PC". They are desperate.

Beware, I can already see the emulator people coming.

Nintendo will sink them as fast as they announce them. Maybe faster.

Which IMO is a good thing, as I don't think you should be emulating current hardware especially as you can't convince me the majority of people emulating stuff are pirating the software.

I don't think of PC handhelds in the same regards I do switch 2. I buy Nintendo hardware for Nintendo games.

Steam Deck is a companion device to me. It's great to play, for instance, Infinite Wealth on my 4090 desktop and then pick up my save and grind some stuff out while I'm with my daughter and she watches TV. I would never buy a game like that on Switch because I know it's not gonna be as good as the PC version on the TV.

Then there's also all the perks of it being an open platform to screw around with emulators and mods. They are two totally different things in my mind.

Steam Deck, Ally, Legion Go are all great but a bit in a different manner vs Switch.

I use the former for indies, older games, less intensive games, game streaming from PC/PS5 and emulation.

I would not play Cyberpunk on them because I would much rather play that on a nice screen with a decent gaming PC.

However it's great for say Octopath Traveler or DQ3 or older Yakuza games or GameCube/Wii/PS2 emulation or games from say 2020 and before and so on.

Switch is strictly for Nintendo games and collecting physical games that I like. Nintendo is don't their best to kill the latter.

Just today I sold my switch. I was considering buying a used steam deck with dock mainly for the steam catalog the indies and the weird stuff a have a list of games that I want to try and I can't on my PS5 (or switch).

it is too late to buy a steam deck in 2025? Should i wait until next year?

I am however waiting on the next Steamdeck.
this is for sure.
Switch 2 is already a bit of a hard sell compared to the deck imo considering the insane prices for everything. Deck starts cheaper and has cheaper games, and more of them.

A Deck 2 with improved hardware and a smaller size would be amazing.

And that's why they shut Yuzu and Ryujinx down. Expect them to be way more proactive in snuffing that shit out this time around.

I mean, maybe the devs should stay in the shadows like they did in the old days. I always thought advertising your emulator was beyond stupid.

They wont. Greed for money is too strong. Then you also have motormouths who will trumpet any emulation development getting off the ground for some clout or to monetize a video. Nintendo were lenient during the Switch era. I don't expect that again.

Guys, I get it if you are a hardcore Nintendo fan, but at least be honest and don't put things such as "games optimized for the platform", "portability", etc. PC handhelds - Steam Deck, ROG Ally X, Lenovo Legion - do all this and much better:

1. They allow to tweak the graphics settings and framerate if you want to prioritise graphics / fps / battery life, something you cannot do on the Switch and Switch 2
2. You are guaranteed endless backwards compatibility, older games will cost you nothing to "upgrade" and will play better as components get upgraded
3. Steam CD-Keys cost pennies compared even to Steam Sales ; handhelds running Windows give you the ability to subscribe to Game Pass
4. No paid online, duh

Oh great, the PC Mustard Race is here and they're dropping mics. Welp, time to pack it up and go home everyone. Nothing compares to PC gaming. We must all accept our lord and master PC GAMING. All hail PC. All hail PC. All hail...

Isn't the switch 2 confirmed to have a modified version of a 3000 series GPU? That's pretty fucking good.... Thats better than AMDs current handheld GPU offerings no? (Don't get it twisted, I'm team valve lol)

Yup. Having access to DLSS 4 puts it over all of these PC handhelds. This will become readily apparent when DF does comparisons for Hogwarts Legacy, Elden Ring, Star Wars Outlaws, and Cyberpunk.

i mean.... is it being used though?

Also, not really a big deal when AMD has Strix Halo and FSR4 as well. Maybe not now but future hardware will have its own upscaling solution as well as just more processing power.

The whole point is Switch gives you Nintendo games.

But PC handheld? Why not play on PC then? Why play PC games in some downgraded peasant way?

Why champion PC games if you play them the worst possible way. This is dumber than 80 dollar games.

Looking forward to seeing the Deck 2, but the Switch 2 looks pretty great right now (game prices notwithstanding). They're not mutually exclusive for me, especially with my massive but dormant Steam backlog.

PC handheld fans are the vegans of the gaming world, they will find a way to tell you they like PC gaming handhelds and to push that on you as much as they can

spoken as a PC handheld fan myself

Man, twitter is such a shithole now in my recommended section. Its somehow just fake news about steam deck and people posting youtube screenshots of cutscenes from ps5 pro and switch 2 saying they dont see difference. This is gonna be some xsx vs ps5 shit until console released

Are there really people who believe that the large majority of consumers are choosing between the Switch 2 and a PC handheld?

How could anyone be so out of touch that you can't see the difference and what the appeal is?

I don't know if they can, Nintendo announced 3rd party exclusives. Nintendo might be a bit worried about these PC handhelds.
Will Asus, Lenovo, Steamdeck start doing exclusives next?

You seriously believe Asus, Lenovo, Steamdeck can do game exclusives like Nintendo?

Tell me, over the years, what are these platform exclusives that these portables have that is a must buy only on their platform?

I'm buying a couple Switch 2s for me and my son to play 1st party Ninty games. It would be a waste to invest in 3rd-party games for Switch 2 compared to Steam where I can play on PC, laptop, Deck, Moonlight, GeForce Now, etc. Switch 2 game prices are ludicrous.

People who are not pc gamers will not understand steam deck and other windows/linux gaming handhelds unfortunately and still will troen around surface statements about weight for whatever reason(what are you, weak?), form factor and other shit. Meanwhile On those devices on the go you can play all old abandonware, classics like all nfs games eith wifescreen enchancements, gta iv on the go, rts, boomer shooters, emulation up to switch and so much more. Its really great device, which people suffenly decided to use for good or bad against a closed system handheld aimed and nintendo fans.
(I have also preordered switch 2)
