After Switch 2 reveal let me introduce you to PC handhelds

And which one of those PC handhelds can play "The Duskbloods"?

Don't care about MP games.

Enjoyed my Deck Oled but sold it. Some of my gripes:

  • Playing competitive multiplayer games vs kb&m players was an absolute no go.
  • I didn't want to tweak my console so Apex, Rocket League, Destiny 2, GTA V etc. weren't available to me.
  • Some interfaces for Steam Deck compatible games like TES Online were a nightmare. Tiny text, having to use the touch screen and shortcuts to proceed to gameplay but not being prompted which.
  • Size of the unit: it's big.
  • Battery life: only 2 hours on Sea of Thieves.
  • No downloads or updates in sleep mode.
Great machine for what it is but I prefer console gaming even with the online paywall.

I sold mine too (LCD model), I would put other reasons like the sleep mode not working in some games, requiring to restart the game after turning on the screen. Transmitting the image to the TV was very inconvenient (I don't know if they improved it). The shaders cache updated all the time and it was a pain, in fact one time it ended up filling up my system's storage and it wouldn't start anymore. Anyway, it's a cool product but it requires much more patience and optimization than a desktop PC.

"Let me introduce PC handhelds"

- more expensive
- more fiddly
- no dedicated games build for it
- run on shitty OS

Maybe OP is a secret Nintendo agent lol

Yeah except it really isnt, and you cant reuse the yuzu base to "speed up" Switch emulation.
But have fun waiting :)
New third party games are going to the larger audience, period.
Switch 2 being BC means OG Switch gets the bulk of all new games until Switch 2 sales significantly dwarf OG Switch sales.
By the time most new games are dropping on Switch 2 (a decade, maybe) there will 100% be some kind of emulator.

I don't think people buy nintendos because of graphics or performance. People buy nintendos to play the same ips over and over again. That's why they can sell mario games for 80, old games for 60 and never low prices.
Not sure if selling a nintendo for 450 euros is a good idea, I can't call that afordable.
Fanboys that have the money will still get it, but tha father with a 12 year old son not so much.

All valid complaints.

If Valve want the next Steamdeck to be more successful then they need to address the above points.

The goal should be to make the device as user friendly as possible.

I can't wait for the Steam Deck 2. With that said, I'll probably be picking up a Switch 2 mainly for Mario Kart with friends and family.

I would argue (unfortunately from a consumer perspective, since UX considerations should always be first) the biggest thing for them to address is distribution and availability. As long as Deck is a boutique product sold directly to customers from an online storefront in a few select countries, there will never be any kind of mass market success for it. If it doesn't have mass market product or distribution, that limits the level of success it can have right then and there.

Battery life sucks balls yeah, god knows what its like on the ROG Ally. That fan can get noisy under load too.

If you can't afford to build a pc, then the Steam Deck is a good all rounder. You can use it portably and its pretty good as a desktop too. But as an on the go device, the Switch is far superior to anything else out there.

I have no issue with the size and greatly enjoy the customization options. You guys have baby hands. Same for battery life - chargers exist + study showed vast majority of people played their Switches (including Lite) at home.

Guys, I get it if you are a hardcore Nintendo fan, but at least be honest and don't put things such as "games optimized for the platform", "portability", etc. PC handhelds - Steam Deck, ROG Ally X, Lenovo Legion - do all this and much better:

1. They allow to tweak the graphics settings and framerate if you want to prioritise graphics / fps / battery life, something you cannot do on the Switch and Switch 2
2. You are guaranteed endless backwards compatibility, older games will cost you nothing to "upgrade" and will play better as components get upgraded
3. Steam CD-Keys cost pennies compared even to Steam Sales ; handhelds running Windows give you the ability to subscribe to Game Pass
4. No paid online, duh

Can PC handhelds play Nintendo first Party Games?

Does it run Mario Kart World?

Do people really believe this?
What does even " No dedicated game builds" mean. They are pc games, they scale. Badly optimized one is just badly optimized, same goes for consoles.

Why not both?

The steam deck (Oled) is my favorite piece of gaming hardware of all time.... And I also pre ordered the switch 2

If anything, the steam deck showed me that I prefer handheld gaming on the couch for a lot of my single player games.

I will probably keep playing single player on steam deck tho as I can stream them from my pc or through GeForce now, Besides me already playing all the cross platform games announced bar Star wars outlaws on steam deck and pc already. Indie games will also stay on the deck as I dont think I could go back to not tweaking settings and beeing stuck to a console pre set

Had the original steam deck and sold it after a yr, as if was home would just prefer playing on my pc, and when at work easier playing switch, bought a oled switch for Nintendo own game to play on go or docked, same goes for switch 2 nice it getting more 3rd party but more interested in Nintendo games

The answer is no actually. Unless you start messing around with emulators, which no ordinary person is willing to do.
I'd argue that gaffers are no ordinary people but I can't be bothered with any Windows nonsense. So I guess there is lazy people everywhere (or at least everywhere where I am there is at least one).

I've been eyeing a handheld for a while now.

I wanted a Steam Deck at first but the issue is not all my games will be available on it.

So I thought of getting the ASUS ROG Ally X and I've been told to hold off as we might soon get a new one (especially with the rumoured Xbox handheld) because of the new Snapdragon chip.

Might just hold out and see what Xbox and the other companies bring out or announce later this year and go from there.

Also, I can't wait for Switch 2. I managed to snag a Pre-Order for the first time in forever for a new console for Day 1.

We will see when it ultimately comes to PS, XBOX and PC 6-12 months later, because you don't really think From was interested in keeping this exclusive forever?
After I found out that this will be a MP only title I lost interest anyway :(
But my original jokey answer works with all the Nintendo exklusive stuff anyway ;)

Bought an ROG Ally X and it's a fantastic piece of hardware. So far, it has played every game I've thrown at it, even heavy hitters like Indiana Jones ran fine on it. Ally X is a huge upgrade from the previous one, not to mention Switch which is the handheld I used the most. It's powerful, silent and efficient, with good battery life and lots of customization to reach the best performance. Great for emulation too. I also use my Ally X as a desktop solution and it's great to have the ability to change either to handheld on the sofa or sitting at my desk. It's very versatile. With that said, Im getting a Switch 2 later down the road when it gets a revision. I have a large collection of Switch games and love physical games. Switch is also a good handheld experience and much convenier to play than ROG Ally X, with its awesome pick up and play factor. I'm not giving that up.

I have the OG ally and I would love an X but I am holding out for a new one.

Do you notice a big performance jump on the X vs OG?

SF6 on Switch 2 looks a generation ahead of the Steam Deck version.

Those are docked, static images of the prefight character models.

Take it from someone with a switch 2 preorder since April 4th.

The switch 2 is less powerful than the steamdeck oled.

I've seen undocked, in-motion sf6 switch 2 footage and the resolution on the fighters is lower and subsurface skin scattering has been turned off.

They want the battery to last. Sorry, but that's the truth.

What method did you use to pixel count that screen resolution?
