Pre-orders have been live since Friday (Otto, Saturn/Mediamarkt). I've ordered mine from Saturn on Saturday.
Otto has been showing 10000+ sales on both versions since Saturday as well.
I honestly wonder why they were already accepting pre-orders; I have never seen this kind of available stock for a console before, at least not on Otto.de. Kinda worried about it getting cancelled (or not getting on release day) as it does seem kinda fishy.

Admittedly, I slept through it, although I doubt I'll be buying the console at launch. Nintendo's price is going to be a massive hit. It will be similar to the PS5 Pro. Sold out for a month and then available on every shelf with a 10-20% discount.
You can also save even more if you go the roulette route. However, I have never experienced that Otto actually delivers when products are in short supply. The probability is quite high that you'll be stuck with your Otto credit or get the console later.

Isn't that the region-locked Japanese language only version? It's a deal for them on the surface, but that's only because the yen is so weak that it would cost them way more relative to cost of living wages. When I was there five years ago, 50K yen would have been about $450. Sucks for Japanese gamers that their buying power has dropped so hard.
To your point, though, if they can take that loss per unit in Japan, they could do it for the rest of the world too... unless they're banking on the yen recovering sometime in the near future. IDK.
Personally, it's the game prices I'm ticked about. There's no justification for charging $10 above industry standard for some titles except that you think you can get away with it. I already got more selective for $70 games, $80 will have me playing retro games 90% of the year.

No need for preordering. Just wait in line (if there even is one) at 8am at any local Mediamarkt and chances are high you'll get one. Or just wait until they launch their OLED model.

Ich habe mal sicherheitshalber mehr bestellt... aber hatte auch meine Bestellungen direkt letzte Woche getätigt.
Bis jetzt hatte ich bei Mediamarkt/Saturn oder Amazon eig. nie Probleme, bei solchen Vorbestelleraktionen.
PS5 etc. wurden ohne Probleme zum Release in der Corona-Zeit ausgeliefert.

I Canada thats very unlikely and in my local retail store they get sold out as soon as they become available and I dont care for OLED model, I even skip the OLED Switch 1 because I didn't need it.
I hope they announce pre-order date for Canada soon.
