UK Supreme Court rules legal definition of a woman is based on biological sex

Judges say the "concept of sex is binary" while adding that transgender people will still have protection against discrimination.

Purple forum advocating violence over this already.

I respect and sympathise with people suffering from gender dysphoria, but the whole "trans women are women" and legal confusion we had going on in this country needed to stop.

Common sense has prevailed.

Good, finally rationality on this issue has been prescribed at the highest legal level. And the purple forum seems full of trans terrorist at this point. Someone in the UK should report the site to officials (seriously).

TBH this is a tricky part. The key is the "legal" part, I would think with legal text and classification you want to avoid ambiguity and subjectivity as much as possible. Doing it differently opens a whole can of worms e.g. someone will say they are a woman one day, a man a week later in order to exploit the legal system.
 
Also, I think people as always are not reading the details. This was what triggered the whole process:

You can make a case that someone who was born male and did not face the difficulties of what being a woman is for probably at least 15-20 years of their lives should not be then benefitting from a process that is designed to improve the situations of AFAB. This was btw a very similar position that got JKR in trouble - the idea that fighting for trans women rights risked to marginalise the efforts and actions of biological women.

This topic has alienated so many people from the left and ultimately empowered dipshits like Trump. It's a tragic case of a political ideology getting hijacked by uneducated whack jobs with borderline schizophrenia. Conversely now that it's been settled it'll become less of a contentious issue, this could result in less discrimination in some cases.

My question is: is the Gender Recognition Certificate awarded based on you "identifying" as a given gender, or does it require e.g. gender re-assignment surgery? Because if the first one I can easily see the problem.

No one is saying trans people should be harmed or attacked. No one deserves to be abused based on their beliefs however irrational they are, as long as they aren't harming others.

The fact things have gone this far on such idiocy genuinely makes me sick. I know the US did some executive orders, but things still need to be more defined with our courts. Not sure what is in the works.

I have never seen a single person call for "trans people to be annihilated." Even people against this gender ideology want them to get the help they need, which they have not been getting for 10 years.

The help is the difficult part

The brain area size issue relies on MRI scans and is inconclusive. And then the purple forum crazies whine that the MRI scans would be descriminative.

When the cause or mental health many GPs these days are reluctant to go down that route.

Then there's the solutions, many are sold the idea (through social media) that "transitioning" will solve all their problems, when in many cases it just makes things worse (most of society just won't accept them as women regardless of legal status).

At least the court ruling brings clarity in order to better inform future decisions.

Not sure if you're being serious or sarcastic. Oh well if serious they're talking about Resetera. Its a video game forum that split off from this one. They have a politics forum that is so left wing you'll wonder if it's parody. Of course the part that sticks out to me is how many people on that forum claim to be experts and leaders in their field yet don't know basic stuff. (You know, like having people claiming to be lawyers and prosecutor in the US but not know what the 10th amendment is.) So many there claim to be superlative. (Such as their "what's your height thread" where pretty much a huge portion were over 6' 2")

Imagine if these people were just chill and cool people with differences, accepting their differences. Everyone would have a much easier time to like them. I like all chill and cool trans people.
But instead of being chill and cool, most of them have chosen to be fanatic, close-minded, obnoxious assholes. This is not the right strategy for any minority - or basically any human being - to be liked by others.
 
If you want to pretend to be something you are not that is fine, and probably a little weird to me, but don't make me enter into your pretending with you.
