Bethesda has officially teased Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. Reveal April 22nd @11AM EST

I hope Daedric Armor is rare in the remake because everyone was wearing it in the original when you unlocked it at higher levels, even the peasants lol.

I hope the imperial city guard armour is available now

I remember killing random guards trying to get it but of course never could.

Reminds me just how much of mess the levelling system was in the game. Can vividly remember that as some point the brown bear became my angst enemy in the game.

Man, I'm super pumped to see if they changed anything and/or what. Gonna clock out earlier from work just to watch the stream.

HeisenbergFX4 HeisenbergFX4 I think your boy is off the mark here...

I see his point. But, isnt the point of old remasters / Remakes to hit those nostalgia vibes for fans and to hopefully introduce a new audience to the game.

I think Oblivion might be able to pull this off, but I could see some issues with mechanics etc. Going to be interesting.

lol

"The bar has simply moved from safe open world RPGs to what Elden Ring brought us all."

He couldnt be more wrong imho. Just picking one of the few games who isnt going the safest of safest route nowadyas...doesnt make it right.

I don't get his point at all. Who in the world has the expectation that Oblivion Remastered has to "hold up against" Elden Ring?

Outside of ER and KC: D2 i dont remember a big open world not playing it safe in the last 5 years...
I would say Oblivion is less safer than current open worlds due to the freedom the player has.

Compared to a world like Cyberpunk, it's going to feel dated.

However writing and player choice have been dumbed down so much in the last 10 years that it'll more than make up for it.

Ybarra is a clown and it's been known for a while. Ignoring anything he has to say about MS or Sony completely, my take on this particular remake is that people's reactions do crack me up a bit.

I'm a bit excited, but I think it's funny to see people excited for playing the same game they've already played instead of playing something new like Starfield or Avowed. I think both of those are going to be better than this game by a large margin.

Oblivion in particular has a largely flat and level land mass that's mostly one biome. You can run left to right across the entire continent without hardly hitting a mountain or canyon or any stopping point. The level design in Avowed couldn't be more different, with huge roadblocks, twisting land bridges, canyons, trees and winding paths with mountains blocking the path or platforming required. Starfield also has the jetpack for mobility, and more winding cities than anything in Oblivion, plus all the planets and star map which are definitely not all accessible at once.

I think unless they've truly remade most of the gameplay, and the level design, and probably quadrupled the size of the map, it will feel dated. I'm totally fine with that and will play it as a nice nostalgia trip, but I suspect a lot of people that ignore new things and hype up stuff they've already played 20 years ago will either demonstrate that they have bad taste, or they were wrong to ignore the newer games. It will be fun to run through Oblivion again, but I can't imagine it being better than either Avowed or Starfield. Hopefully they really go nuts on the level design for the Oblivion gates at least and make the terrain extra unusual.

If this is a huge hit, game devs might have to rethink over comburent UI and ubisoft tropes to games.

I'm sure of one thing, people will say this is better than Starfield.

I also think that the stuff they did with AI in Oblivion has not been surpassed since - not even with Skyrim. I mean, that one quest where you get this guard in jail and he later comes after you is quite insane when you keep in mind that all his steps (getting put into jail, breaking out, going after you across the damn country) actually happen, whether you as player are present or not. Has any other game ever done something like this?

Well, I think there is an argument for new players and a potentially full priced title should hold up against any modern game...If they are remaking it.

But, I get you and do agree. It shouldnt even be compared because anyone picking it up are (or should be) well aware its a 20 year old game.

I've never played Oblivion, i started with Skyrim.

Really looking forward to playing this for the first time but also aware that its 20 years old and elements will feel extreemly dated.

Comparing this to any modern game is foolish.

Can't believe i'm hyped to impatience for a game again, at my age. Don't know when the last time was (probably Killer Instinct 2013). Let alone one that's coming out of the Bethesda bugfest portfolio, will probably perform like dogshit because sloppy UE5 job and will retain most of the issues the original had. Don't care, i love TES.

Couldnt you also create yr own magic spells (upto completely absurd and overpowered ones breaking the game completely)? Last time I remember an RPG offered this awesome feature...it was Tyranny.

Why is he saying every game should be like Elden Ring? If oblivion was turned into Elden Ring then it wouldn't be oblivion, it would just be another bog standard souls knockoff that the industry loves shitting out now.

Additionally, it's so hard to look forward to an open world action RPG now because there's at least a 60% chance any new one will just be a souls rip off shoved right into the "hard-as-balls" genre. It's so goddamn boring, especially since almost none of them are as well made as a Souls game.

Looking forward to this remaster but I hope there are at least some QoL improvements gameplay-wise otherwise it will definitely feel dated.

I really don't understand quite why I am so excited about the Oblivion remaster but I really can't wait for it to release. I'll be so disappointed if it doesn't shadow drop today after all the rumours etc etc.

I think it is because Oblivion is my favourite Bethesda RPG by far even though the game itself had a lot of issues - clunky combat, fugly looking NPC models, a messy user interface and a lacklustre main plot - but it was more than made up for by the sense of wonder and adventure that I experienced from exploring that amazing world while listening to that haunting Jeremy Soule soundtrack. I literally lost myself for a week playing this on a break from work back in 2006 on Xbox 360. Happy memories.

If I can experience a fraction of that again in the remaster but with some improvements to the combat and user interface then I will be very happy indeed. In fact, depending on how good it is and the pricing, I may pick this up for my PC and PS5 Pro.

I just hope the PC version is not another Unreal Engine stutterfest...

We're just over two hours away, I can't wait. The game doesn't need to drop today, but it needs to drop this week. I'll be extremely disappointed if this is just a reveal for work in progress with a summer or fall release.

I just wish there were physical versions, this is a game you buy a physical copy of but images would've leaked by now so it's got to be digital only, at least for now. Unless, it's not releasing anytime too soon.

Bethesda has, historically, been pretty generous with new versions of ES games on Steam, but I assume this one won't be like that. I'm guessing the chance at GOTY owners getting this free or reduced cost is super low, which is fine. I can play it on gamepass lol

I don't want to watch the stream, and I will not be on the web when the stream starts. Just refreshing gamepass to start downloading then playing all night.

I also started to check Resetera, then saw this was the top sticky in the gaming forum ^
I did the mistake and clicked on the Off-Topic forum to see some of them openly celebrating the Pope's death while people being disgusted by this behaviour being banned.

I mean, at what point is a community un-salvageable?
