Bethesda has officially teased Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. Reveal April 22nd @11AM EST

Bethesda has, historically, been pretty generous with new versions of ES games on Steam, but I assume this one won't be like that. I'm guessing the chance at GOTY owners getting this free or reduced cost is super low, which is fine. I can play it on gamepass lol
That is NOT going to happen. The game is almost 20 years old and this is a remake it seems. Far too much went into this to justify a free upgrade.

I figured as much. Huffing some early morning hopium I suppose. I don't mind supporting them with a purchase after I get necessities taken care of!

Feeling dated or not, it's in my top 10 of all time and it's the reason I entered the 7th gen. Saved up all of my bartending money and splurged on a 360 and Oblivion on a rainy Sunday afternoon and then proceeded to play for 12+ hours straight. I was 23.

Now I'm in my 40's and just as fucking excited to revisit that world yet again

Do you play every Microsoft game?

Gamepass is a decent deal for people who spend a ton of time gaming, but most people play only a few games.
Absolutely, probably 1 or 2 games a month I play off gamepass. But I mean the main reason I pay for it is for Microsoft 1st party games. And I actually just a few days ago switched from ultimate to gamepass PC since I sold my Xbox 6 months ago.

Oh
No. Phil has stated many times about opening up to other storefronts like Steam, Epic. Rumor from many sources is next Xbox will be like a PC.

Now, let's not derail this thread. Oblivion Remaster is going to do numbers. Pretty excited!
Oh yeah, i dont want to derail thread ( 2h to go!) just trchnically i dont see how steam games(pc)will work on xbox unless its straight up desktop pc

2 hours left
everything will be clear

But why? It's coming to PS5 and PC as well... frankly wouldn't be surprised if it comes to Switch 2 in a few months too.
To be fair, if people want to save money, gamess for console i salright deal and some of those games also come to pc gamepass.

@HeisenbergFX4 I think your boy is off the mark here...

The irony being that Elden Ring's world feels 30-35 years out of date. It's about as reactive and believable as ALTTP from 1992.

The exploration, combat, art design, and level design are all incredible, but let's not pretend that this game doesn't have glaring flaws that have been solved decades ago. For instance, they don't even have a system for NPCs to have any agency. You talk to someone and you either gotta warp out of the area or reload the game to progress to the next step. This is reminiscent of 90s JRPGs where you had to talk to someone and leave the town for the quest to progress to the next stage. In Oblivion, the NPCs will do it on their own and you can even follow them to their destination.

What Oblivion lacks in combat and enemies, it more than makes up for it in interactivity and world simulation.

Guy is talking out of his arse again. By that metric people wouldn't play older games at all.

Not to mention that "souls" are not the fucking high bar of RPGs. They're action games with a dash of RPG but nowhere near the reference when it comes to RPGs.

If Avowed was thrown under the bus with all these Elder scrolls comparisons for item physics, item persistence, NPC reactions, etc, Elden ring would fare a lot worse. Now it doesn't need to have it to be its own thing, Elden ring is one of my GOAT and I'm not asking it to copy Elder scrolls, but peoples wanting to represent a wide spectre of RPG genres into one game are fucking annoying, just like peoples wanting Avowed to be Elder scrolls were annoying, peoples wanting Elder scrolls to be Elden ring are annoying.

Do you realise how many people levelled through this and then got absolutely destroyed by the monsters because these were the only stats raised?

You're definitely over exaggerating how bad this was lmfao 🤣 that would have meant they needed to choose one of these skills as a main stat.

I'm hoping both athletics and acrobatics comes back.

I wonder if this will run well on a Steam Deck if it's UE5, there has been some cases (not many) where a game was rather well optimised.
