LTTP Switch 1 unpopular opinion

I didn't get the Switch at launch since most game need were ports/remasters from WiiU which i played to death. So i decided to not get one until a Zelda edition was made.
I waited long, and got the Oled ToTK edition when it came out.
I played ToTK finishing main story and relevant quests, illuminating all depths area etc, played for 100h or so.
then stopped and just recently this year started some backlog on it.
And here my rant, (just want to vent):

- Damn this thing is uncomfortable, heavy and barely grips in handheld mode.
- the joycons are tiny!! joysticks are like little toy knobs that feel they will break at any moment.
- hd rumble feels like random vibrations (i know depends on implementation)

But the most annoying thing atm is...

No damn headphone jack in dock mode, you need either a long cable extension or a Bluetooth, and Bluetooth has lag!

How was this so damn popular? even as a handheld you would need a grip to play comfortably.
I don't get it. I loved the gb, gba, ds, 3d, but hear me out, the games made for those were designed to be portable. The switch is a home console made portable so most games are not designed per se to be played on the go, (small texts, tight action gameplay etc)

Switch 2 kind of adresses some of the issues, at least.

End of rant, thanks for reading, xoxo

You think the Switch is heavy?...

Yes the Joycons are almost painful for long playtimes. I bought a split pad pro to help with the comfort, but it did not support button remapping (super dumb Nintendo)

No lies detected. Hardware wise this thing is an absolute pos. It's not just the performance, which ultimately lead to many good games becoming intolerable to play with sub native res, stutter and horrendous framerates. The whole design is crap. Anyone with bigger hands than Trump, say sixth grade upwards, gets hand cramps from the damn console. The hybrid approach sounded great on paper, in reality it's the worst of both worlds. The ethernet adapter, bluetooth etc are complete dogshit. The OS is unresponsive, ugly and a pain to use. It's an absolute shit tier device and the fact that it sold so much just speaks volumes to the quality standards of Nintendo fans and the general population aka casuals

To me none of it is issue for me because I never do gaming outside of my home, the only time I play portable gaming on Switch is on my bed before going to sleep.

In fact the reason I bought portable systems like Gameboy, DS, PSP, 3DS and PSVita not because they are "portable" but mostly because it has games I want to play.

Speaking from just having the Switch lite version, the unit itself always feels it's a small breeze away from slipping out of my hands all the time and the joycons always on the verge of breaking. They do hold up well, but my god it just feels awful.

- Damn this thing is uncomfortable,

This. It's not a hybrid system if the console is so fucking uncomfortable that it forces you buy a $80-90 dollar pro controller and have it docked 100% of the time. I'm gonna get hate but it's the same shit with switch 2. If its docked 100% of the time because of ergonomics, you're spending $450 plus the price of a pro controller on a console that's 10 times weaker than consoles selling $50-100 less. I bought my PS5 Slim a year ago for $500 bucks and it came with Spiderman 2 and Astros Playroom. Meanwhile Nintendo is charging $10 bucks for the Welcome Tour tech demo. Look at my avatar ... Nintendo games are awesome. I grew up on their games. There is a ton of nostalgia when it comes to their games ... but they lost their way and the price to value ratio just simply isn't there anymore. Maybe in a year or so it will be different. Hopefully ... and for fuck sake, make beefier, more bulbous joycons.

that's why you replace those crappy things with a set of these:

(and no, don't even think about buying the shitty ones by Hori)

The cool thing about the standard Switch is the joycons are removable i.e you can get custom joycons fit for your purpose and plug those in instead kinda like a phone case.

It's an amazing party console and I found it perfectly fine to play games holding one joycon like a controller, despite having big hands. I didn't play much in handheld mode though as I wildly prefer the size and weight of GBA/3DS-esque handhelds rather than these massive portables. I never had a problem with the lack of aux output as I played it docked on my computer desk so I was close enough to play with a normal length headphone wire. Had I played on my TV in the living room I'd have been pretty annoyed though.

Great console, but I think Switch 2 will truly be Switch 2.0 and deal with a lot of the shortcomings of its predecessor.

OP is such an uninformed person that looks like never played a handheld.
"The thing is heavy" = you bought the OLED model, the largest and heaviest one of the three SKUs
"Uncomfortable": it was made primarily for portability, so grips and custom joycons are available for you; remember that the most confortable handheld (The SteamDeck) is hmongous, jus to be comfortable.
"The joycons are tiny": yeah, they are made to be unattached and played independently. Again, just get a grip or a custom joycon (Hori Splitpads are amazing)

has some great games otherwise yeah it kinda sucks

but considering all its trying to do (handheld, detachable wireless controllers, "half" of a controller has function as its own controller, home console, etc) it does pull it off overall with some surprising grace.

The Switch is cool because you can play Nintendo games on it. Also, you can play on the big screen, or pick it up and use it as a handheld.

That's it.

It's not an amazing piece of tech. It has major issues, like the Joy cons, but it accomplishes the above and that's enough.

You do know that by making this thread, there will be 4 new threads within 24 hours defending Nintendo like it's a baby made of bubbles?

Seriously though, I never had any interest in the Switch, but after buying my mum a new phone, the shop gave us a voucher for a free system. Even being free I was disappointed in the hardware and the absolute basic of features being missing. Also the DRM on users on the console, how Bluetooth was restricted (had to buy a separate controller with a dongle as the dualshock wouldn't work on its on), and many other bizarre stuck in the past choices that didn't make sense.

I did have a few memorable experiences with it, mainly Animal Crossing and playing with an old friend, so I didn't completely hate it.

It wasn't perfect but remember it was created at a time when Nintendo was very low. They didn't expect it to take off like it did(I assume). They did incredible work with the design, so much so that it will be copied for all of human history, but it was also the first one of these(if you don't count the Wii-U) and it was not 100% perfect in every way, no. Can't wait for Switch 2. I use the pro controller and Hori giant grips for mine and they work great though no rumble or wireless with them on.

I don't think the JoyCon complaints are a unpopular opinion. I bought a Pro controller after the first month of owning my Switch.

With Switch 2 I'm just ordering a Pro controller alongside it day 1.

Not an unpopular opinion to say the joycons were un-ergonomic fragile garbage. The HD rumble in enough games was good, so that's probably the nicest thing I could say along with improved motion control.

I still think the shoulder and trigger buttons are among the worse of any controller I've ever used, which is why I bought the pro controller as soon as I got one. So many other handhelds and mobile controller attachments have done a better job.

Not allowing a PS4 controller to work natively on the Switch is "Nintendo restricting bluetooth" ? Is this your first console ever ?
Good reply, put me in my place. A console that allows third party controllers, but only via a dongle or whatnot is shitty and just adds to the cost. Is this your first time defending Nintendo?

That has nothing to do with defending Nintendo, no console allows other companies' controllers to work on it. You can't use the joycons on a PS or Xbox, you can't use the Xbox controller on PS or the Switch, etc. The controllers from the same company barely works with a new iteration (you can't play PS5 games with a PS4 controller for eg). I don't understand it being « Nintendo's weird bluetooth restriction »

It's like being surprised you can't install MacOS on your pc or Steam Deck

Pretty sure he made that inane post just to say "hurdur u defending Nintendo"

It's the same across every other company and pretty much standard practice.

I like how you refuse to read what I wrote. I said THIRD PARTY, and of course a Nintendo fanboy would bring up other consoles because they can't accept Nintendo might just be at fault. Yes, other consoles are picky, always have been, but this was a thread about Nintendo. The fact I had to pay about £40 extra for an 8bit controller, thanks to Nintendo, sucks. Sucks even more when I have plenty of controllers that can easily work. It was them restricting Bluetooth like I said. Why the hell are you comparing a simple hardware signal like Bluetooth to an operating system and thinking you just made a good point? Did I even hint that about using a joycon on PS5? Or a Dualsense on Xbox? I don't know why you are being so idiotic and making up a fight in your head, and only you know what it's about.

Oh fuck me, another little rat who can't dare accept Nintendo is a typical money first company. Jesus H you people are brainless. And YES, other companies, like I already said, are picky, but this is a Nintendo thread. Morons

I'm considering this, how is the d-pad? does it passes contra test?

STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM HORI believe me.

holy shity that Split Pad Pro is absolutely horrendous. the analog sticks are the cheapest shit you can imagine.
Hori in general just make among the worst controllers these days. apparently their Steam Controller is also absolutely fucked in terms of quality.

any cheap china joycon set is superior.
it was the worst controller purchase I did in at least a decade.
