What game are you currently playing?

Back in 2011, I platinumed the original Dark Souls on the PS3 during its initial release - spending hundreds of hours experimenting with numerous builds and performing various challenge runs (including a level 1 run). And, just now, 14 years later, I dove back in and played the updated Dark Souls: Remastered and platinumed it on the PS5 Pro (~65 hours). No amount of praise would be enough to pay homage and reverence to this genre-defining, universally-acclaimed, absolute-legendary masterpiece. It's 100% definitely in the 'Top 5 Games of All Time' list.

Oblivion Remastered with what little time I can carve.. right now there are too many games and no time for me. I wanted to play Expedition 33, replay Avowed, play some retro titles, write, do all kinds of shit.. but wtf. My time comes in waves - sometimes so much and then other times no time. Now Switch 2 is coming.. and still more game releases, like Doom and moar. Still behind from years.. never ending. But - a good problem to have.
 
Finished Atomfall and it was very mediocre. I had a few games lined up and just couldn't get into any of them. Oblivion Remastered, Beyond the Ice Palace 2, Roku's Island Express, Frontier Hunter. I'm going to try to find a quick game I can beat before Revenge of the Savage Planet comes out in a week, then Doom is coming out. After that it's RPG time. I have a bunch of those lined up for my annual summer of RPGs.

I hate the feeling when you have games lined up you plan to play, none of them stick, then you have nothing to play all of a sudden.
 
All on PS5Pro:


Clair Obscur - the only game anyone should be playing right now. Instant classic, JRPG tour-de-force in the running for GOTY with arguably the best turn-based combat of all time. Music is a lock for OST of the year.

Indiana Jones - finished it right before Clair Obscur released with only one trophy left to plat. Really enjoyed my time with it, gorgeous visuals and a physicality to movement and combat I really appreciated, Machine Games has yet to disappoint me.

Next up will be DOOM and Nightreign in May followed by my most anticipated of all with Death Stranding 2 in June. I'm looking at Wuchang in July and MGS3 Delta in August, Borderlands 4 in September, Ghost of Yotei October, need to look at what smaller, indie titles are releasing between now and then (thus far I've enjoyed Ender Magnolia, Tales of Iron 2 and Blue Prince). Next few months are going to be great, 2025 has been delivering all the goods 👌

The Deathstroke boss fight in Arkham Origins is the steepest difficulty ramp in all of gaming history.
The game goes from basically "double tap X to win" to "Fail 45 times in a row".
Fuck this game.

I always have two games alternating,usually one big game and one Indy.. right now it's forbidden west and a Indy called American fugitive( top down crime game, think gta1).
 
Been going through some games to try to find something that sticks. I wanted a short game to play to kill until Revenge of the Savage Planet and Doom come out. But nothing has stuck. I have some longer games lined up, but didn't want to start them now as no chance I'd finish within a week. I've gone through like 5 games that didn't stick, I'll try a few more.
 
I'm close put 50 hours in to Expedition 33 but havent finished the main story yet because too busy doing all the side contend......FANTASTIC game!

I don't have a time counter for Star Rail on PC, but I think I've put close to 200 hours into it by now across both the PC and PS5 versions ever since I started it at the beginning of last month. To say that this Gacha JRPG captivated me would be an understatement. :messenger_grinning_sweat:

do you know if they let you do the side quests after finishing the main game or does the checkpoint keep setting you back at final boss meaning you have to do the side quests first?

I haven't finish story so I'm not sure and imagine they will let do quests even after you finish the main story.

Really enjoyed this. A bit tricker than the previous entry, and some of the puzzles could've done with a little more consideration, but overall it's a great game. Recommended if you enjoy physics puzzles.

Reached Shadow of the Erdtree DLC in Elden Ring. Atmospheric as fuck so far. The landscape looks like a goddamn painting. It's so dark and depressing, yet so beautiful you wanna cry. Conquered Belurat Tower, which was an awesome legacy Dungeon, and got my ass handed to me more than once. Loved the art design of the castle and the music was very moody and somber. The boss was just cherry on the top. So fucking epic. I was not prepared the way it started to dance in the middle of the fight shootingout lightning bolts and breathing ice. I was both in awe and at the same time trying to hit it. Unbelievable boss fight. Unfortunately I took it out on my first try, which was way more luck than skill I'd say, because I want so bad to fight it again. Tried put down my summoning but no one answered 😪

Still throwin stuff in. I've always wanted to play g-police. I had it on psx but not anymore. It's on the ps sub. This game, strangely, has graphics settings in the option menu. Sliders for view distance, "view angle", and framerate. Looks like on this version I can max the view sliders and the framerate is still 60. Nice.

Damn I need to play more games like this. It's a proper vehicular cockpit-sim. These were my favorite back in the day. Also one of the reasons the 32bit gen was my favorite. Before that, thesee were rare on mainline consoles. But on ps1 and saturn, you had tons. There are probably indie studios making games like this and I should check them out. There's so many old ones, though. The controls are simplified, but it is a real sim-style mission-based game.

Reminds me of: warhark, mech2, syndicate. Syndicate because of the dark city environment and music.

I was feeling like the combat was unsatisfying till about level 7 where there was a big skill check and by the time I could beat it, I had figured out that I wasn't setting up strafing runs right. No side-strafe here, so you canit play it like a floaty fps. If a ground enemy is dangerous, you need to set up a good clean run on it to land as many shots while taking as few as possible. So the difficulty picked up, and I'm doing that properly. The bit of strategy needed changed my mind on the combat and I like it, now.
 
I'm in the tutorial of Scarlet Nexus. It is my second time starting the game.

I'm still not feeling it. I am a traditionalist when it comes to action games, and the overwhelming majority of modern action games completely miss the mark for me. Metered combat systems have ruined the genre for me. (Thanks, FromSoftware!) Plus, this just feels slightly off in terms of movement and reaction relative to the controls. Additionally, I stopped playing DMC5 very early on due to the overly complicated controls for various attacks. This game is already entering that territory for me in the tutorial. They want me to use R2 psychokinetic attacks while using normal attacks, but their explanation of it and my comprehension of it are not jiving.

The font is absolutely terrible. Making it larger does not help.
The opening cutscene in the diner is full of stutter, and it's so fuzzy looking.
The game has prompted me to start the tutorial. That wasn't at all immersion-breaking.

Just got the platinum trophy for Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 yesterday. So now I'm looking at my eternal backlog. I got to choose what to start next. Lollipop Chainsaw Repop, Silent Hill 2 or A Quiet Place: Road Ahead.

I didn't play Silent Hill 2 Remake at launch, well....mostly for the fact that I can finish the PS2 version pretty much with my eyes closed. But got Remake for cheap so got it. Heard the PS5 Pro version is pretty crappy. Tough decision between these 3
 
Finished Bramble the mountain king. A game steeped in Swedish folklore, filled with mythical creatures such as gnomes, trolls and shapeshifters (skogsrå). They even had a terrifying gameplay section with Näcken. Wasn't quite expecting that. Appreciated it for its stellar art direction which was very John Bauer-esque in its execution. For you who don't know who he is, he was a famous painter who depicted fairytale landscapes and all sorts of mythical creatures from Swedish folklore and culture.

The gameplay however was kinda shit. Sluggish controls and one hit kills results in a lot of trial and error bullshit. Boss fights were cool and original, but suffered because the gameplay is so limited and stiff that you just die repeatedly. It's reminiscent of games like Another World, where the smallest of fuck ups results in a painful death.

Overall I liked it. It's refreshing to see game that pulls so much from Swedish and Scandinavian folklore and culture. It was both original and familiar to me who have grown up with these images and stories. You can tell the devs were passionate about this game. They had a clear vision and executed it accordingly. Will probably develop a cult following in the future and become a hidden gem/indie darling of sorts. Well done 🙌
 

You like Hexen but want modern QOL improvements? This shit right here. 1.0 is out and has all the episodes. And the devs recognized sewer levels suck balls and made their own suck less based on user feedback.

Huge campaign. Good arsenal. And enough secrets to have you wall humping all around.

This game helps me imagine what Raven Software would be like today if they weren't condemned to the CoD development mines to never see the light of day by their corporate overlords.

My saga continues. Tonight I will attempt Bound By Flame, a 2014 AA Action RPG. I am desperate lol.
I also will revisit Far Cry 4 to check out the random ass 60fps update for PS5. It is my favorite of the Far Cry games.
I may bite the bullet and try AI Limit. FightinCowboy's review said it is a lackluster soulslike but it isn't a bad game per se.

You can just select continue after finishing the game and it will let you resume it for the side content. I would wait after the game for all the side content except the relationship quests or it'll make the last dungeon/boss trivial.

Currently Playing:

Persona 4 Golden (Switch) – After completing P5R (83 hours) I decided to just keep going in the Persona series and play 4. I'm about 10 hours in and really enjoying it, characters and story are very interesting, combat system is great so far, (not to much different from 5). Will defiantly see this one through to the ending.
 
PES 21, the second season with Liverpool in Master League on Superstar difficulty.

Still no trophies, because the difficulty is crazy, but... it feels like a real soccer. Perhaps, this is the best game in the world.

It's one of my favorite games I played on GameCube

Loved those gameplay sections too. Exploring on that hoverboat was alot of fun. Also that ending man. I do have the HD Remaster and have to play that sometime this year. I'm guessing the HD Remaster really makes the game look fantastic
 
So over the weekend I finished the campaign of Final Fantasy XV and then last night I finished the Episode Ardyn DLC. Spoilers below for anyone who hasn't played FF15 and doesn't want to be spoiled on the 9 year old game.



I both loved and hated this game at the same time. I found it both incredibly boring and extremely compelling. But more than anything I feel pissed off that this game went through such development hell and ended up in its final form. This game had the potential to be one of the all-time great Final Fantasies. Ardyn may still be a top 3 FF villain despite the games shortcomings. There is tremendous lore in this world and so many missed opportunities. This game with an open world structured like FF7 Rebirth's covering all the different areas of Eos instead of the open world we got, combined with a rewritten/restructured narrative could be amazing. I'd also have loved to see a shift in the final goal. Instead of Ardyn being the main baddie, why not have Noctis and team ultimately realize that Bahamut is the one behind all this and have the game culminate in an effort to destroy the astrals to end the StarScourge without Noctis having to sacrifice himself?

Man, I just can't help but feel this game is a wasted opportunity.

I hate this fucking mission, it really drives me crazy.

At least on Xbox you can pre-install any game from the app to save time, I wish PS5 also had a similar option.

So once you get home with a new game, you jump straight to your console to play the game immediately? You don't have time to throw the disc into your console and do a few things before you need to start playing? I wish I had that much time for gaming as I get older

Initial install times before you can even boot a game are getting longer.

I dont know, when I get a new game I just throw the disc in so it starts installing and forget about it until I have time to sit down and start playing later on. Digital or physical is the same, I either have to download the whole thing or install/download obvious first day patch

It is so easy though... RC Helicopter rotates on the spot. It is nothing like the Zero missions in San Andreas that actually give people conniptions. Start with the highest floor and work your way down.

Crime Scene Cleaner on Game Pass as a breather from huge epic RPGs.

It has you playing as the guy cleaning up after the mobs' murders. Mopping, trash collection, and stain removal has never been this fun--and I mean it!

It has a plot, a voiced main character, skill trees, & actually good level pacing & design.

A unique idea, executed about as well as it could be.
