What game are you currently playing?

Picked up my most recent playthrough of Death Stranding again and made enough progress that I'm the furthest I've ever been in the game. I met Conan O'Brien and got the cute otter hat which was a nice lighthearted moment. I then ended up doing WWI trench warfare as a boss battle (?). As much as I appreciate the community aspects to building, I do think it makes things a bit too easy from a traversal standpoint and cheats you of the mechanical depth found within. I don't remember if that can be turned off, but if it can, I think I'll be doing that in the sequel. That will probably end up an exercise in frustration, but right now it feels like I'm following someone else's path rather than creating my own. And while I'm usually a fan of Kojima's weird characters and gobbledegook jargon, the story just has me rolling my eyes, mostly because I don't feel invested or connected to any of the characters.

I haven't played CO, but maybe you'll like SMT vengeance for some fantastic turn based goodness. I'm hooked on it now.

Unless you're look for the same kind story wise, then... Good luck!
Thank you for the suggestion. I'll see if it appeals me.

The thing is I don't usually like/play turn-based games. But CO:E33 was something else. I liked the story and world-building the most, the visuals/art direction was so fantastic, and then the dodge/parry function was perfect for a player like me who prefers action games.

The Last Of Us

About to revisit the OG TLOU (PS3) to grab a couple of remaining trophies for the platinum and do a Grounded+ run.

(...)

Wanted: Dead - I ignored the reviews and took this one for a spin. It was $6 on the last sale, so why not? Gotta say, the gameplay is addictive and I had no idea that this was pretty much a hidden gem. It has some jank, sure. However, it feels like I'm playing a soon to be cult-classic. If it isn't already. I am just having a lot of fun with it.
Nice. Do check out the OT we got and post further progress/impressions there if you feel like it.

After 20 something tries I finally beat Rellana in Shadow of the erdtree. Man, fuck this Pontiff Sulyvahn wannabe asshole. Extremely frustrating moveset but since I've played so much DS3 it was somewhat familiar and I could finally take her down. Great feeling afterwards though. So far the most difficult fight in the DLC.

I was at the end of Chapter 11 of FF7 Rebirth, did « restart from last checkpoint » thinking it would bring be back before the fight so I can adjust my materia and stuff, it sent me back to the begining of the chapter.

I'm done with the game

Still gameless.

I played some Turok this weekend, though. Better than I remember. I liked it back then, but see it differently now. The level designs are quite good. First person is great for exploration and they are doing it right, here. There's a lot of in-sight but out of reach things that take some snooping to find and make the levels feel bigger than they are. Pretty fun. The shooting is very very easy as this re-release is much easier to control than the n64 version.

American Arcadia
My Time at Sandrock
Little Kitty Big City

Some light hearted fun stuff after the (excellent) gloom of Expedition 33. Arcadia and LKBC are just short little one offs but having a great time with both. Sandrock is actually a whale of a game, I'm interested in how much story and content there actually is cause I've played 14 hours and seem like I've barely scratched the surface. It's interesting in that it's in that "cozy / life-sim" type genre but it's focusing more on the building and crafting than the framing and decorating. It's also a bit bleak at times -- not TOO cozy / lame like these games have a tendency to be. Lots of cut scenes and voicework too. Really impressed with it too, wasn't expecting it to be so good or I would've jumped in much earlier. I don't love the character designs but it's tolerable.

Doom The Dark Ages

Jk...playing FF7 Rebirth on ps5 pro and Andro Dunos 2 on Switch which is a great horizontal shmup. Does Doom release tonight for people that bought the $100 version?

I just got Midnight Club 3 DUB. Will play it since i've never played it.
Are there any people with experience, is it any good?
It has been years since I played it, but it is still amazing and holds up! It is genuinely in my top 5 racers ever, and that's not just nostalgia talking.

Final Fantasy X
This is the only game I've been playing lately. Just made my way to the Thunder Plains.
Are you playing on pc? It has a lot of delicious features like speed boost and full party xp. I feel the latter really should've been standard in the original release.

Also there's a thingy that automatically dodges lightning bolts for you. If there's a god, it's the guy who made that.

The driving is really awkward. Tires do not feel like they have any kind of grip on the road. Need For Speed titles released at around the same time put it to shame.

Oh, that happened to me. It was really annoying.

Check your auto saves. There is a probably one that will take you back to where you wanted. I think the game maintains a list of about 4 or 5 of 'em.

Don't give up on the game yet. I had a great time with it (and found it very, very funny).

I can only see one auto save

Playing on Steam Deck. I didn't know those features existed. I'll take a look next time I load up the Deck.

Terribly sorry, it's been a good while since I played. Those features are part of a program called special k. It works with a lot of games most for visual and performance improvements. So it's not standard to the game itself. Still highly recommended.

Right now, I'm playing Lords of the Fallen (2.0 version).

Great game. It may not be on that Elden Ring level of greatness, but it's very good game overall.

Next game maybe Doom Dark Ages on gamepass until Death Stranding 2 arrives next month.

Finished The Midnight Walk in one sitting. It was a good experience, but not for the $40 asking price, I'd suggest anyone curious about it to give it a try at $25-$30.

I still need to finish Expedition 33 Act 3 and then I'll start NG+.

Now I wait for Death Stranding 2, and until then I will the time to catch up with every world quest/side quest I have left in Genshin Impact until Skirk releases. I'm still debating if I go for Escoffier as she will be 40% of the damage Skirk does.

Oh, there is the Capcom Collab in Monster Hunter Wilds at the end of May. I hope it is Dragon's Dogma 2 related.

I just finished yesterday my 2.0 playthrough with my bro. They did some cool changes with the update but I hate how they didn't fix all the getting stuck on the most dumb geometry all over the game. There were too many times I was fighting something and couldn't dodge to where I wanted because of some invisible geometry that got in my way. Died a few times to the most frustrating things outside of my control. Still a good game though.

gearing up to play darkest dungeon again.

I mean I've played it on release but brushed it off due to the difficulty. Since DD2 was released I've been meaning to get back to the ip again but this time with more focus. When I played it back then I was just going through the motions looking for something to find interesting on steam.

I googled it and ended up on the Kellogg's website! :messenger_tongue:

I'll test it out over the weekend. A bit strange that fast forward isn't in the game to begin with since 7,8 and 9 all have it in the remasters.

Still going through Shining The Holy Ark.

It's 2:00 AM and the game just threw me a math puzzle. Yeah nah bro I think I'll google this one, but thanks! :lollipop_content:

Despite my previous evisceration of the game, I did keep playing Arkham Origins.

It took many more attempts to beat Deathstroke, and it took almost as many to beat Final Bane.
I suspect there's a flaw in the way the game plays on Series X through backwards compatibility. Maybe the game logic is running too fast or something. It wouldn't be the first time a 360 game had problems on Series X because it's too fast (Risen 1). I didn't see any older reviews complaining about this, so I assume it doesn't occur on 360, but quite frequently the Takedown and Counter prompts just wouldn't show up during boss fights. And with the last boss fight, sometimes when they did show up, they didn't actually do anything when I pressed the button (other than get me killed). Assuming this is a unique flaw with the game on Series X, I'll just confine my review to the rest of the game apart from those boss fights.

I liked it more than Arkham City. It's a better story, told in a more cohesive fashion. The general combat encounters are better. It's a better looking game, too. It's not as good as Arkham Asylum, but it's still an essential Batman experience.

6.5/10

Note: For anyone who has, miraculously, never played any of the Arkham games, I would actually recommend starting with Origins. Its story flows very well into the beginning of Asylum.

Just finished chapter five in Death Stranding. I just looked up the amount of total chapters and feel a little disheartened. It feels like I've played forever and I'm seemingly only a third of the way through the game. The story beats and tonal shifts are starting to annoy me which is also how I'm starting to feel about most of the game play elements. There is a of depth to the many, many elements to this game, but it they were a jigsaw puzzle, none of the pieces seem to fit together all that well like the scale of the world is all wrong or the vehicle physics feeling like something you'd have experienced in earlier GTA knock-offs, or the systems mean to punish you for being out in the world too long never feeling all that punishing or...you get the point. Maybe it's time for a break.

If you're forcing story only you can wrap up in about 35-40 hours.

If you're doing side quests I wouldn't go past 3 stars completion for each place because the rewards after 3 stars aren't good to justify the grind.

I'd personally just run the story down only.

Boy, the last stretch of the game is going to be rough for you.

I stopped down side quests after the opening area. I don't think I have it in me. The narrative in the Mama chapter is so bad, I literally cringed. lol

Picked Prodeus back up after dropping it about a year ago. Enjoying it more this time but I still don't think its all that great.
Dislike some of the design decisions like locking the double jump and dash behind collecting stuff in secret areas then having to go to a shop on the overworld map to buy them.

Playing on hard is pretty easy so far, but just the amount of effects on screen with the blood splatters and stuff can make it difficult to see, it gets pretty messy. I think it looks pretty good but it's not really in service of the gameplay. Some of the levels are also a bit too dark.

Movement and the weapons feels great but the level design so far has been pretty hit and miss. I love a lot of these new age boomer shooters but this one is kinda not hitting for me. I actually enjoyed Warhammer 40k Boltgun more than this so far. Will still play it to completion, still have some weapons to unlock.

Gave up on Xenoblade Chronicles x after the 4th chapter. Got sick of constantly dying just trying to reach the next objective.

edit: decided to give the game another shot.

Finished Resistance 2. Massive step up in quality from the first game in terms of gameplay and production value. I like the changes they made in terms of only being able to carry two weapons and the addition of a sprint button was definitely needed. It's weird that it's the same button as crouch though. I gotta say, the game can be pretty challenging at certain parts.
Look forward to playing the third game soon.

I brought the first resistance game a few years back, felt "alien" (pun intended) playing a first person shooter with no health regeneration, but I couldn't get into it, and I haven't touched it since...had the PSVita version, but couldn't make headway with that either, more so because I can't save my progress on that game...(unless I wipe the PSVita clean of the previous owner's profile..)

Yea the first game is pretty unremarkable to be honest. It's cool that it is set in the UK even if the level design is nothing amazing. One of the many improvements in the sequel is that they introduced health regen instead, although the damage taken from single shots can be pretty unforgiving.

I've finished Dante's Inferno for the first time and it was a really cool experience. I was surprised at the amount of "controversial" scenes and monster designs. This would never get remastered for "modern audiences" considering all the nudity, suggested rapes or murdering little creatures resembling children.
Combat was fun (using the right analogue stick to dodge in any direction is a genius idea), even though the game could've used a larger variety of standard enemies. I hated some of the climbing / platforming challenges, especially when they had to be done within a certain time limit. I think it's partially because of the fixed camera angles instead of a third-person view. I probably died a few times just because the camera made it more difficult to calculate the jump.
I love the design of the locations and bosses, it's a shame it's running in a such low resolution (I played the 360 version). Overall a really fun slasher. Some moments were pretty frustrating (like the trials near the end), but I never thought about dropping it.
