30fps magic was there on PS4 too when everybody had it on their GOTY list and drooled over the visuals. Not worth downplaying that now.

That Switch 2 screens can even be in a side-by-side shot like shown here without people joking is a serious win I think few expected just months ago. People are desperately zooming in on hair and talk about image compression now. It's crazy. Get aboard the hype train and enjoy what's coming! Launch is in less than a month!

I'm so glad Switch-2 is more than capable to handle this. First Cyberpunk and now FF7R.

We gotta see how it can handle Elden Ring next

Zooming in and referencing compression has been part of the conversation long before Switch 2 came into the graphics debate. You are right though....it is impressive for a lowered wattage device. 30fps plays a big part, as does DLSS. A performance mode comparison would be interesting to see. I'm ready to see analysis of first party and games made for Switch 2 in general.

The Switch 2 Direct focused on announcing Switch 2 exclusives (from a first party perspective). But there's lots of Nintendo titles that don't need strong hardware power so I would expect to see several more cross gen first party games at future Directs.

It's how I went over the finish line. The end fight was super frustrating as you had to replay an area before the final boss when you closed down the game. But on Steam Deck I could leave it hanging on the game over / retry screen and leave the Deck in rest mode over the night and continue retrying just the final fight.

The point being, it's not a surprise that these type of games can run and look good on the Switch 2. THAT'S THE POINT! I'd be crazy if the Switch 2 couldn't run these PS4 games well.

Is pretty clear that gameplay is going to run at 30fps and cutscenes at 60fps, but there's a rumor of a performance mode.

Yeah that's weird, maybe because the CPU is not holding back the GPU? Who knows, that's why the performance mode rumors came out, and I believe it will have a performance mode but at 40 FPS instead

Looks higher res on Switch for the character models. Look at his coat zipper, the necklace, his chest "straps", etc. Whole character looks higher quality assets like what transformer model would do.

Look at the hair in other shots, switch2 version is clearly lower res.
You can't really judge anything else forom the video. Espeically gray on gray texture in yt vid.
 
The real question is how the grunting and sighing noises sound on Switch 2.

PlayStation 3D Tempest audio makes it sound like you're right in the middle of a gay porno scene. I don't know if Switch 2 can compete with that.

SMT V didn't come out on other platforms technically, the new/complete version did (called Vengence or something like that). That's traditionnal sneaky Altus move.

DF did a test with performance mode, and it looks better than the Switch version. OP video is dog shit quality for PS5. Seems the opening section (that I compared myself as well with the image from the first page) might not even be from the Switch. Guess we will find out next month.

everything said by DF about the benchmarks is correct. you can't use a 2GB VRAM PC card as an accurate benchmark for a PS4. that is just not a good comparison.


the entire benchmark graph they had was questionable. the performance of the Steam Deck is for example way too high on that graph, as they benched the GPU at max clock speeds, which it never actually reaches unless you lock it to that and thereby downclock the CPU, which will tank performance in nearly any modern game.

the same is of course true for the Deck's CPU, it doesn't just lock to its max speed, it adjusts to the GPU

I was just playing this on the Pro and my god the load in/pop-in in the 60 fps Pro mode is really bad. The devs couldn't have done something to mitigate this? Not only is it highly distracting but it affects the visual quality quite a bit when foliage and shadows are missing until they decide to pop into existence.

Disappointing actually because it doesn't happen the same way in Quality mode.
 
I like the section at the start where they say people start attacking them when they report things they don't want to hear. Like how a ton of people went after them for reporting the Switch 1 had a Tegra X1.

I haven't.
saying it's close to PS4 in terms of GPU power is not the same as saying it's identical to it.
the Xbox One was close to the PS4 for example, that doesn't mean the PS4 and Xbox One ran games identically.
