Helldivers 2 |OT| Another bug infested game

had a couple of updates........and it looks worse?

MUWT2C0.jpeg

It's weird. It seems to me like when I log in every few weeks or so either the game looks worse, looks better, runs better, runs worse, or some combination.

This game has been consistently getting peak CCUs of 70k+ on Steam since the new faction dropped over two months ago. Very impressive. Imagine if it ever went F2P?

I played this for the first month after release and then dropped it. Is it worth coming back to now?
Depends why you dropped it.

There was a lot of new content since release. The most recent and biggest one is the third faction from the first game : Illuminist.
Automatons and Terminids receive new enemy type and objectives.

New stratagems (mecha, a car, different support weapons, backpack...), weapons etc....
Also this summer there was a big balancing patch that kind of buff every weapons and stratagems. I was scare for the balancing of the game but it worked quite well.
You can run everything and have fun.

Narrative wise the Illuminists are pulling a black hole toward Super Earth that destroy every planets on its way. It destroyed its first planet yesterday.

Basically the core gameplay stays the same that at launch but with more variety in the equipment you can take. And there is much less crashes/bugs.

If you like the gameplay loop, it's definitely worth coming back ! Community and devs are still very active.

Seeing the kind of boost a moderate patch like Omens of Tyranny gave the game, I'm super interested in seeing what they do with actual major updates/expansions. We're still in Version 1.0. Hoping a 2.0 takes this game to the next level.

looks like we might just be able to take Fori Prime with the way things are going. 16 hours left and we're at 83.4%. definitely possible. on a side note, the amount of heavy units on there is just out of control. worst I've had was 4 or 5 Chargers and 3 or 4 Titans along with like 3 Impalers all at once. really need to have a well communicated team to get things done. too bad most of the teams I hopped in doesn't like to talk all that much.

on a side note, I was in a dive earlier and I got in half way through. was able to take out 2 objectives before dying. got called back down right near the evac but was kicked from team right after the recall beacon got dropped. since the Pelican was already landing, I was able to still get out and finished the mission. I suspect the team leader was doing this to increase the "win rates" for the MO. but the tally at the end shows it counts as 3 points with just me getting out instead of 12 points when I had a full team finishing together, so I don't think that works.

Love the game but I'm maxed out on everything. They should at least remove the cap on medals. The last couple of Warbonds are so short that I'll almost max it out with just the 250 that I have available on release.

The new Jetpack is most interesting to me in it so far although it idunno about using it against bots just off first glance lol. Game had a weapon balance update. Nothing really jumped out to me much but I wanted to try the Slugger, Tenderizer and the Liberator Concussive based on the patch notes. Tried the Tenderizer and Concussive. Both still meh with their issues I have still being the same at least in the one game I played of each. I'll try the slugger in a little bit. I ended up bringing the wrong stratagems because of the layout change lol. The ai got buff in terms of awareness. I only did a couple of bug missions to that end. The Automatons dropship got a health increase. The Rocket pods change is welcomed I guess.

Forgot about the Stalwart in my last post. That buff wasn't necessary but i'll take it. Gun was already good and fun to use, just got better. May mess around with the Erupter against the bots.

Hover pack is goated. I actually crossed the water on the forest planet using it while the rest of the squad had to go all around the map lol. R-6 DeadEye is fun to use( although at times if feels like I should be landing my shots that don't land). Like the way the gun sounds and how the dualsense haptics feels using the gun. Talon can be good spacing your shots. Armor has it's benefits. Overall, not one of the better Warbonds but I still have some fun with it.

EDIT: And the light armor should have been in the Warbond AH:pie_unamused:.

Alright, the automaton flame shotty may be the most infuriating thing i've experienced in this game :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I joined my friends' game a couple nights ago. The three of them had burnt through (hyukhyuk) all their reinforces. None of them had equipped fire-retardant gear (neither did I). We wisely switched up for the next mission - much more manageable. My impression is the same though - fuck the fire shotty. I think it was difficulty 8 but still - we were getting immolated from glancing shots. Always possible ofc that we just hadn't adjusted yet. That's often the case in Helldivers. My initial impression was a big thumbs down though because this game doesn't generally heavily encourage switching gear, only switch strategems, which is generally much more flexible since you do get four slots.

How is Helldivers 2 nowdays? I stopped playing last year after they started patching the fun out of the game.

Fun and stable for a while. The game had a rocky period with patches that jumped back and forth in fairness (yeah, some of them seemed targeted at the wrong things), but I haven't worried about that for months.
As always, best played with friends.

personally I think it's at a very good place. the weapons had been mostly buffed and they had added a lot more gears and weapons in too.
Thank you both for the info. Guess I'll reinstall it and check it out again.

A few days removed from it but Popli IX was most fun/craziness i've had on the bot front in a long time when you include all the modifiers the planet had.

I can't stop laughing at the "actual path may vary" disclaimer.

That's just where we are now in 2025 with media literacy and terminally online social behaviour.

They had to have disclaimer because there is someone out there who could get mad the purple line isn't the same when the game event happens :messenger_tears_of_joy:

After the latest patches my 14700k + 4070Super has really been struggling with even holding 60fps in this game...

my 9800x3d + 5080 is smooth and completely locked

I think the game possible uses e-cores instead of p-cores sometimes resulting in cpu overload? 9800x3d has no shitty e-cores

60k people are back in the game. Yeaaah as much as the devs fumbled the tech side of it and some of the balancing this game has insane legs even after more than a year later.

Funny, I took that like a joke, especially with the "Purple beam of destruction". Like an in-universe joke about Super Earth's government covering up future lies.

Did player metrics on Steamcharts ever reflect the "balance issues" everyone online was complaining about?

I'm on a 12700K, 3080 and 32GB RAM and the game was dropping into the 40fps range last night in the more chaotic battles. This is a mixture of some medium and some higher settings at 1440p which this kind of PC shouldn't have an issue with. Performance is steadily getting worse with each update it seems and they really should put some focus on optimisation. Hell, even proper DLSS/FSR/XESS support would be something at this point.

Still, I love this game and these updates will keep me playing for sure.

It's a factor, but the biggest problem for the game was the lack of content and things to use samples/currencies for. Only way to progress is to add +1 to your level and find the occasional super credit.
Game should have launched with a COD style prestige system & weapon customization.

OT bump is Omens of Tyranny when they added the new faction.

I thought I was burnt out on the game. I just jumped into a round with the new alien race and it was incredible. Night and day difference since dropping the faction last December. Cinematic AF. This will never not be a game I don't continually come back to

I suspect the OS cpu scheduler asks for effiency core instead of performance cores.

So on my 14700k the game should run exclusivly on the 8 performance cores… but if windows does not identity helldivers.exe as a prioritezed task during certain times i really think the OS scheduler instead gives helldivers on of the slow 8 efficiency cores. The e-cores buckle immediately under stress leading to fps drops

I am thinking of disabling the ecores in bios and testing

did a quick run at Impossible difficulty. dropped in with like 15 minutes left on the clock and the lobby I joined in on had already ran out of respawn. we cleared out everything except the main objective and we ended up failing the mission and run out of time. I used the WASP and it works pretty good, but those Fleshmob things sure can take a lot of damage and keep coming. the Stingray flyers are very annoying too if you don't have someone who can deal with them. but honestly as long as you pay attention to the highlighted area on the ground and move out of it, you'll be fine. I shot down a few with the WASP and I think that works well. definitely need to coordiante with the team and have someone dedicated in dealing with those while someone else is focus on the Fleshmobs and the Harvesters. will report back with more test results when I get back to do more runs.

I don't think current day Sony makes jokes, especially one as a disclaimer.

It came straight after a "a Mix of CG and gameplay" disclaimer in the same text and font. I feel if they were joking they would have said like "not real life footage"

It was clearly a joke.

been using the Liberator Penetrate as my primary and it's working pretty good. I tried both the WASP and the Arc Thrower and both had been working pretty good for the new enemies. Arc Thrower doesn't completely stops the Fleshmobs but it does stun them a little everytime it hits, so that's the best part about it. and WASP for the Stingrays is pretty good too but you need to lock on and fire at them before they start their strafing run or the missiles can't catch it.
