What should I watch first? Library sale haul.

Baccano first IMHO. It's simply excellent.

Attack on Titan is also solid. I haven't watched Terror in Resonance yet so no comment there.

Cool, I've only caught some of attack on titan, seen that Baccano! pop up every now and then, and I've only faintly heard of Terror in Resonance. The summary of Terror in Resonance seemed pretty interesting but attack on titan seems safe enough. I'd honestly go with whichever is the shortest which seems to be Terror in Resonance.

Man, Moonrise ended up being so dissappointing.
Really strong first episodes with nice animation, good music and cool ideas.

But the direction the plot takes around the second half sucks. On top of there not being much character development, many concepts and ideas only being explored on a very surface level and the entire ending feeling very rushed.

Also finished Grappler Baki. 41 volumes and that's just the first part.
What did you think of it? Heard the author is pretty good at depicting movement during action sequences.

I finished the anime a few days ago and I want more, might check out the manga.

I didn't like Maximum Tournament much but I liked the first 21 volumes of Baki fighting goons and his childhood.

I'm on Part 2 right now like 8 volumes in and I'm feeling mixed on it. It's not as hype as I thought it'd be.

Yeah I got a similar feel with the anime. Kid Baki was very cool but Maximum Tournament dragged on for way too long imo. Also probably the worst part of the anime due to lack of gore and bad animation.

But hey, it serves as introduction for many characters so that's cool I guess.

I'd say keep going. The arc that follows Maximum Tournament didn't do much for me but what comes next sure felt like a good pay off. Things get crazier for sure.

What the arc with Pickle? Dorian just got beat by Doppo. Like 10 volumes and I'm enjoying Baki's relationship with Kozue more than people fighting lmao.

Reading Dragon Ball, really enjoying it specially since I barely remembee anything from watching the anime as a kid. The mix of adventure, action and comedy is awesome, and the pacing so far has been great.

Just started with the Red Ribbon stuff, excited to see where this goes. Edit: it's going places.

Yeah I think the arc about Dorian and the other inmates was the least enjoyable for me, and everything that comes next felt better for sure. The arc with Pickle felt great, lots of tension because by then I was already invested in the characters, and that arc has some very high stakes.

I'm old and missed Dragon Ball as a kid/teen so I know absolutely nothing about it. I'm considering reading the manga in Japanese as part of my study to learn the language. It's either that or One Piece. I figure the vocabulary for both should be fairly simple.

Unrelated, can anyone tell me the best place to start with Gundam Wing? Is it Gundam 00, or somewhere else?

I can't speak for One Piece, but I have a few volumes of DBZ in Japanese and it is, indeed, fairly easy to read.

Josee, the Tiger and the Fish (2020)

I'm not going to lie here, I watched this film just because I saw this meme

It ended up being really cute and sweet and I really liked it a lot. It's based on a short story that was written by the Japanese author Seiko Tanabe in 1984

This is actually the 3rd time the story has been adapted, as it was previously made into a live action movie in Japan and then in Korea

The animation was done by Studio Bones and it was made for cinema so that means quality. It is very pretty to look at the entire 98 minutes running time, including the credits which you should watch to the end of

The voice actors who play the two main characters absolutely nailed their performances, especially the VA for Josee

I don't usually just watch things based on memes but I really recommend it to anyone as it's actually really good

I've been watching Madoka Magica for a second time. Once you understand what is going on, the earlier episodes (and the opening credits for that matter) before the "big reveal" in episode 10 take on a new meaning.

On the first viewing, the moe character designs are a bit off-putting, but you get used to it. The art is excellent once you get past the moe designs.

It reminded me of the classic horror visual novel Saya's Song - the density of the plot, and somewhat similar themes. One of the things that makes Saya no Uta so good is the pacing - no fluff and just forward momentum. VN's are not known for their economy of words.

A central character in both is an alien eldritch entity, in a cute, attractive form, that manipulates people to advance its agenda. Then I found out the author of both is the same - Gen Urobuchi.

I finally saw the movie Suzume and was left pretty disappointed. All it really had going for it was great background scenery art. The movie seemed to drag and I was just not a fan of the main character. She just seemed a bit crazy. I get that she is not afraid but like she doesn't have like any sense it seems like. I will say that I liked I guess you would call it the post ending scene not quite end credits but the ending after the main story is over.

I think I only saw like maybe the first 2 or 3 episodes of Dandandan so no movie for me.

Suzume was disappointing when compared to his previous works Your Name and Weathering With You. I felt the romance was forced too. I liked the movie but there were lot of issues I had with the film

You are still on Season 1 of Dandadan? That anime is one of my favorites and the manga is even better

I can't wait for the movie.

I watched Season 1 in English and am learning Japanese so right now I'm going through Season 1 in Japanese, along with the manga in Japanese.

It's slightly above my comprehension level so I have to take it slow, but knowing the basics of the story in English helps.

I'm doing the same thing for Flying Witch, which isn't nearly as entertaining, but is probably more in line with my comprehension.

The movie was still enjoyable just disappointing for the most part. The romance was weird. Like he was looking to become a teacher and she was a high school student. Which is probably why he was turned into a chair for the movie. If I look at the movie as a fantasy adventure set in the modern world then it makes sense.

I'll eventually get around to Dandadan. I'm way behind on anime right now. I've been craving watching Photon again and that Lina Inverse anime.

Anyone familiar with After God?

I got sold on one page with incredible art and amazing cover art, but I'm 9 chapters in and honestly it is super boring. There's an insane amount of potential with the worldbuilding and the concepts but man it is a slog. And super goofy, which I hate.

Does it get better?

I've been watching two slice of life animes -

- Laid back Camp. Beautifully animated countryside.
- Food for the Soul - food club in university - not high school for a change. Anime girls doing cute stuff. What is not to like about that.

I'm liking these chill animes where not much happens and you can just take in the vibes. I can understand more of the dialogue in slice of life which helps with my nihongo learning hobby.

Anyone seen the Dandadan - Evil Eye movie yet? Impressions? I may see it tomorrow.

Edit: I saw it. It was good. I don't think the directors commentary at the beginning and end added much.

when was the last harem manga with a good ending
Fujimura-kun Mates, maybe? One of the girls even became president of Japan just so she could legalise polygamy...
Kekkon Yubiwa Monogatari
Renai Bokun (Love Tyrant) has a pretty good ending as well.

Counter example: Maga-Tsuki. Guy ends up marrying all of the girls, but I hated all of them except for the childhood friend, so to me the harem ending was "bad".

not much anime coming up in summer I'm looking forward to.

My list so far is:
My Dress Up Darling S2
Kaiji No. 8 S2

Maybe:
Silent Witch
Hitozuma no Kuchibiru wa Kan Chu-Hi no Aji ga Shite (slice of life about college girl drinking beer)

any titles I should keep an eye out for?

Well, Dandadan, of course.

Sakamoto Days is good fun.

I'll give Silent Witch and Futari Solo Camp a go.
