I have 30-40 Switch games, and once in a great while, I insert a cart and it says "the game could not be read". After ejecting/reinserting the card, it's fine.

One time my niece inserted a card backwards. Yes ALL the way in. And the card was stuck. We were worried the slot was broken. Nope. Once we pried out the card, it still worked. I want to say NES had way worse problems. Of course this is highly anecdotal, I'm sure there are real problems out there, but it doesn't seem like some big weak point to be losing sleep over.

Sound extremely exaggerated to me. I've been 90% physical on my Switch (1) launch unit for 8+ years at this point and haven't noticed anything like that.

You mentioning it is the first I've heard of it.

I mean, I've had my GBA and DS Lite for 20 years and there's still no problems. I really can't see that as something to worry about. You should think more about the risk of knocking out a tooth when you lie in bed gaming with it over your face.

Just in case if you got a MIG don't even consider putting it there, apparently the Switch is automatically bricked because it can detect voltage changes when using non-official cards.

I wouldn't have even thought to try that, but thanks for the PSA.

I won't even insert a MIG into anything but a hacked Switch. Which might appear to remove the point of one, but that's a different topic.

Lots of folks selling switch 1 Pro controllers on Facebook marketplace near me.
Looks like the previews on the switch 2 controller has sold many on it. Either that or the extra buttons.

I would keep mine either way for local co-op

As far as I can tell, the only additional thing it has is that button for chat but I don't even know what that means

I still don't even understand how the video chat works during games

Maybe you need the controller to turn it on and off

I've only read impressions from the preview events. Some positive, and some who didn't notice any difference compared to the current one.

So I guess I've technically not read any strictly negative impression, although I'd consider 'no difference' as negative.
 
Talking about the Pro controller, wouldn't it be better to grab the 8bit do ultimate 2 that has TMR sticks ?
I've reached a point gents where I just can't trust normal analogue sticks after 2 Dualsenses and about 4 xbox series joypads...

the issue with Dpad impressions is that most people these days don't really play Dpad heavy titles.
many people play everything on the analog stick as well.

so it's really hard trusting any hands-on impressions when people exist that would play MegaMan X on an anlog stick, and those same people might be the ones that think it felt "good".

has any of them ever used an Xbox One Dpad? have they used a Series X dpad? do they know the difference between them even?
have they used a Razer Wolverine V3 dpad? do they know the difference between the old and the new 8bitdo dpads?

without knowing any of that about someone, I can't really evaluate how trustworthy their impressions are.

I'll have to run the tests with my 8bitdo ultimate 2, but I've had minor issues with a lot of my 8bitdo controllers when using them with the Switch. The biggest issue is connection input buffering, where the Bluetooth connection will stutter or drop for a few milliseconds, and therefore your input will register to the console later.

I'd say it's imperceptible to probably 95% of people, but it's something that I've seen consistently across literally every single 8bitdo controller. And for what it's worth, 1st-party Nintendo controllers (specifically the Joy Cons) do this as well, but do a much less degree. And the Pro Controller is, by far, the best at mitigating Bluetooth input buffering.

Additionally, most 8bitdo controllers have an extra 8-16ms of input latency than the Pro Controller, though that's hardly a dealbreaker when playing on a console.

No official reviews. I don't think any outlets have it in hand yet (or they're embargoed), so all we have are limited impressions from people who attended the Switch 2 preview events.

I've seen a few people say that they hammered the d-pad as much as they were allowed and couldn't get it to misread any of their inputs, but we're probably not going to know for sure until someone does a teardown video and compares the insides of both controllers.

that's a Switch issue tho not really one with the Controller itself. so hopefully stuff like that will not happen on the Switch 2.

uhhh, 16ms is a huge amount of additional lag...
but yet another thing hopefully improved on Switch 2.

the Switch 1 generally had weird issues with controller lag. like how USB mode massively increases lag, similar to how it was on PS4.
the PS5 fixed the USB mode lag, so fingers crossed the Switch 2 will improve things too

That is true, it's mostly down to the Switch's Bluetooth module and range. Though, for whatever reason, it seems to not play nice with a lot of 3rd-party controllers.

16ms is not that much when playing casually; it's just one frame at 60fps (or half at 30). In a best-case scenario, the Switch has between 60-86ms of button-to-photon latency on a 60fps game when playing in handheld, and for most TVs, that ends up being 86-112ms latency.

And because of Bluetooth signal fluctuations, it's not uncommon to have fairly regular input latency spikes of around 1 frame on the Switch with any of the controllers (though, admittedly, it almost NEVER happens on the 1st-party Pro Controller).
 
Mine from target says June 11th which is crazy since I pre ordered instantly. Oh well, just glad I got it don't care if it's a week late, don't want to refresh nonsense. Excited to catch up on some games I missed out on switch 1

16ms isn't a lot of lag. 16 additional ms however is imo. that's almost twice the screen lag of a modern Samsung TV on your controller alone.
a good controller shouldn't exceed 5~6 ms of lag, and 8bitdo controllers are below 5ms when used on a PC.

so when you say that lag can reach 16ms ABOVE the Pro controller, which already probably has more than 6ms lag on its own... that is awful.


on the Switch 1, this is arguably less of an issue, as the system has very few high skill competitive games. on Switch 2 this will likely change however, as Fortnite will now actually be playable on it, apparently even offering a 120fps mode, and games like Apex Legends and Overwatch 2 might also get actually playable ports this time around. CoD is also supposedly coming given Microsoft's stated commitment.

so, this better be something Nintendo kept an eye on and improved

I don't think I've heard anything about that, but I'm pretty sure I've seen achievements for completing a certain amount of shrines.

It'd be kind of strange if you'd be forced to re-play all of those shrines again on a file where they've already been completed imo.

I guess Nintendo could do apps for other games or Switch 2 editions. But it's still on a per game basis and up to each developer. Nothing system-wide.

I think everyone's target order is saying the same thing. I wouldn't worry too much about it

iirc, my ps5 target preorder did something similar. Ended up being shipped on Nov 11th and I received it on Nov 13th.

Welp.....been going back and forth on this, but I'm going to try to get one. I imagine it will be a few weeks after launch that they will be readily available.
 
Fucking Amazon man, this thing has been going back in stock and back to out of stock in the span of a few minutes every G'damn time I checked for the past week, managed to put it in my cart 3 times and every single one I got presented with a red banner saying "there was something wrong with the article you selected" or something along those lines...

It's still pre-order able (is that even a word ?) via Nintendo Italy, GameStop and a couple of other shops, knowing my fookin' luck though, if I order from them the console will arrive either with some dead pixels or DOA joycons or sum' shit in which case...good luck trying not to bust your balls with their awful customer support (GameStop especially).

I NEED to get one from Amazon Gosh darn it...

PS : Delivery date from Amazon was for June 9-11 btw

I think to get any tips on that you'll have to tell which region you live in.

I could give you tips in southern Germany for example, but I don't know shit about the situation in North Carolina 🤣

Yours at least says Donnerstag... And not June 7th, which would be saturday, which can then turn into tuesday, since monday is Pfingsten. I bet my amazon warehouse worker is just a bit slower.

Friday would be ideal, I can live with saturday, tuesday if something goes wrong would be a bummer. But in the end... I can finally play at work again on my breaks after the next weekend :messenger_sunglasses:
 
Anybody else pre-ordered from Target and the order is saying it is expected to be delivered on June 11th? What the heck Target?

Just curious if anyone else is seeing this or if they have previous experience with Target prep-orders
 
From what I can tell, all four of my pre-orders are actually going through. They're all already spoken for by family and friends who couldn't get one.
