Nintendo Switch 2 |OT| Switch 2 Nintendo, because now we're playing with power

The launch line up is the worst lineup out of any Nintendo console ever. I'll wait on this one. It should have launched at $350 with Mario Kart as a pack in. It just isn't enough. Once the honeymoon period is over, it's going to be a long wait until Metroid.

Since I already play Zelda BoTW and ToTK in 4k on PC w/60 and they look….okay….i wish they would update the textures on the Switch 2 upgrade paths, but alas they didn't. There have already been playthroughs of Switch 2 MKW on YT before Nintendo took them down. It's about 15 hours long if I recall in single.

Man, I really don't know, I was going to get the plain console but now I'm thinking on getting the MK World bundle since there's absolutely no way I'd spend 80€ on a game such as this, for 40€ though that it costs when packed in the bundle...

Then again, I'm no big Mario fan and the last MK I played was on the SNES so I don't know whether I'll like it or not, still, in the case that I'd actually like it, I'd have to splurge those 80€ which again, I'm not willing to spend.

My initial thought was getting the console and get Mario Odyssey and Zelda BOTW used for 35 each and a couple of digital games like Blasphemous 2 and Slave zero X until Metroid 4 comes out in September...

What do you think guys ?

Edit : MK world is actually 90€, not 80 over here, lmao

It's a download only game...available on day 1. Are you going to purchase it...download it...then download a patch?

I hope next time Sony launches a new system we're able to go into that official thread and be absolute steaming piles of 💩.

Why wouldn't you be able to?

This is a forum with lots of different opinions — including those dissenting Switch 2 opinions from Nintendo fans that you have been so eager to dismiss.

I feel like a madman waiting until Christmas to play my preordered Switch 2. But that's what I'm gonna do.
HONESTLY. I think...I might be sick Thursday. I'm gonna hold my thermometer up to my light bulb and show my boss I've got a fever of 135.

EDIT- That's 57.222 to you Euro-trash out there. 😜

Luckily, I have this upcoming Thursday, Friday, and Saturday off of work already, otherwise I'd definitely be putting in for time off

  • Performance - 1080p60fps HDR
  • Balanced - 1440p60fps HDR
  • Quality - Mixed 4K/1080p60fps HDR (menus and UI in 4K) - Shin'en states that a patch is in the works to make this a consistent 4K60fps
  • Ultra Quality - 4K30fps HDR with ultra quality 4K/8K Shadowmaps
  • A potential 120fps patch may come in a future update.
Handheld mode is 1080p60fps HDR or 1080p30fps HDR with 4K/8K shadowmaps.

Holy crap that was fast (pun intended). Just earlier today they were saying they planned on making a patch for 4K/60fps and within the same day it's already done.

I took Thursday and Friday off. I still don't have complete confidence in Walmart giving me a Switch 2...but if they do, then i will be free to play and enjoy.

what?? are you serious? strong disagreement here

you mean first party? how is a brand new open world Mario kart with the two best selling Zelda remasters worse than steel diver and nintendogs 2 or Mario 64 ds or nintendoland and nsbm Wii u ???

if you mean third party, it's already a much better launch than arguably any Nintendo system third party wise especially switch 1
cyberpunk, yakuza, hitman trilogy, Hogwarts legacy, split fiction, street fighter 6, sonic x shadow, civ 7....just to name a few

I have the funds now I just need to figure out where to buy it on launch day I live in the SF Bay Area so I'm not sure how competitive it will be if I just walk into Best Buy or Target when it opens on the 5th. I'm not in Oakland or SF proper so no poop or muggers to deal with.

Nintendo has moved to launch window. A month later there's DKB, then MPJ+TV. Then more.

There's no sense trying to reason with them.

Just get the MK World bundle day one then fill in your collection of used games as you go. Of course don't wait too long on Zelda.

I do not think you will regret having Kart as the digital always ready to go game without switching carts. It's a multiplayer game always ready to launch. The bundle is limited. Strike while the iron is hot. The used copies of Switch 1 games and other expensive Switch 2 games will always be there, $50 MK won't. If you haven't played MK since SNES I think you should take a leap of faith on it. 8 was excellent. Personally 8 is the first one I bothered buying since N64, but I played every gen at friends places.

Thanks Black, appreciate the insight ;)

In other news : AliExpress sells games for the Switch at very good prices and judging by the comments they're original ?
From what I understand though, the version they ship is...random ? Meaning, it could be a US one, a EU one etc etc, does anyone have any kind of experience buying from there ?
Shit, Metroid Dread and Zelda BOTW can be found for as low as 30 Eurodollars ffs !

Quick question boys :
I'm about to create a Nintendo account and I was wondering whether the country of residence you're gonna use during the creation has anything to do with game availability, eShop pricing etc...
My PS5 account for example is Greek and the PSN storefront is obviously Greek - whenever I had a problem though with my account/funds etc PS Italy customer support (which I reside ATM) would always redirect me to PS Greece since, again, the account is Greek.
Having said that, using a Greek account has its benefits/perks since I can usually grab 50€ wallet fund cards for 39.99 on online shops - is it the same thing with Nintendo ?

Also : was gonna order it from Amazon but...they're out of stock atm (they were still available yesterday ffs), is the Nintendo shop ok or shall i get it from somewhere else ?
You can't beat Amazon's refund policies and that's why I usually shop from them but unfortunately they ran out of stock.

Thanks

PS : Nickname and online ID can only be 10 characters long ? Wtf man 😁

Yes there are differences between different countries' eShops, pricing and some game availability. I am not sure about customer service, but you can change your account's country and that will allow you to switch to another region's eShop. But there are some limitations that might make it annoying if you plan to change countries often (online and eShop balances interfere with this).

And about your purchasing question: if by Nintendo shop you mean directly My Nintendo Store, my experience is only with Nintendo of America, but they do a great job packing and shipping. The customer service is excellent too, though they don't refund shipping unless it's damaged or defective. Not a problem if you are buying to keep, but if you are unsure and might return because you changed your mind I'd go with another retailer.

I haven't seriously played Mario kart since Mario kart 64. I did play Mario kart 64 until fairly recently though

Is there a breakdown of all the new mechanics since?

They have motorcycles and stuff

I can't recall there being major gameplay changes. They've added flying, driving under water, anti-gravity, doing tricks for mini-boosts etc. But none of those things really changed how you actually play the game imo.

I think World will be a good entry to jump in since it'll level the playing field early on with all the new gameplay mechanics (driving on water with dynamic waves, wall-riding, rail-grinding, charge jumping, multiple tricks, driving between tracks instead of the usual 3-lap races etc.). It'll be very different from any past entry.

Motorcycles were already in Mario Kart 8

Mario Kart World will be Super Mario Bros. to Mario Kart 64's Donkey Kong control wise.

None of that clunky Donkey Kong Mario jumping, just the pure blissful control of jumping height and trajectory in Super Mario Bros.

For anyone who still thinks this is just a Switch Pro:

This doesn't tell us much actually. There are games that can exist on a switch 2 handheld and couldn't on PS4 pro. The opposite isn't true.

And even ignoring the massive CPU and RAM advantage, DLSS is a huge equalizer when it comes to image quality.

The console isn't out yet and the games shown already trounce a base PS4 in some cases. I think that 1-2 years from now, well start setting things which will be awfully close to a Series S.

IMO for me it is still mindblowing to see how weak the Switch 1 is/was but Nintendo still managed games that look clean and beautiful even on 4K displays.
I played Mario Odyssey on a 55" OLED 4K telly and it never looked off. I'm absolutely thrilled to see what Nintendo does with Switch 2.

Nintendo took payment on the 28th so I definitely have the MK Switch 2 and a pro controller coming. I still find it super odd that I just clicked on the website weeks after it was on sale and could buy one. Especially with places like Game cancelling orders.

Great idea but I am not sure I would want to. Imagine being so sad you had to hate on a new console that you were never going to buy in the first place. ;)

Other than maybe Mario Kart, some Zelda games I've already beaten and a bunch of 3rd party games I've also already played that run and look better elsewhere isn't exactly selling me on the system.

Guys, maybe this will sound weird but :
I didn't give it that much of a thought in the beginning, but, since I'll be going mostly physical, I'm afraid of actually damaging the game card slot by swapping game cards frequently...
I've been reading that doing so can actually damage both the game card's metal connectors and the console's card slot, there's many topics where I read that switches stopped reading games all together and or the little tab breaking off because of it.
Some have even suggested going fully digital 'cause of it and, yeah, don't know...

How much of it is true ? Is it an exaggeration or...?
