Uhm, no? You're misinterpreting the slide.

Several of the studios listed under Evolving/Multi-Genre, like Guerrilla (Horizon Online) and Dark Outlaw (Jason Blundell's studio), are also working on live service stuff.

the world is healing… and this number makes way more sense.

i mean, is not wrong (in this case, for Sony) to try to atract a different target… but to halt their already successful sp games is stupid

Sony's got a lot of great strong games coming up but it's just a matter of needing to be patient a little longer for it all to roll out in good pace. Should be very healthy all sides I would imagine come the second half of 2026 and after.

see you on PS6. Whole gen wasted

go fuck yourself middle finger GIF
Hope is not lost. Remember that the best games on ps3 came on the tail end of ps3 era. I believe renaissance of ps5 is about to happen starting with DS2, then GOY, then next year Saros, Marvel tokon,Wolverine, etc. But yes Ps6 im sure will be back to the good old Sony PS.

It seems like the craze of releasing 12 gaas games is over and they're focusing on single-player games, which is what their users want and what they do best. It's a shame about the wasted time.

Sony demoted to the wait till next year camp?

Joking aside their single player games do take some good time and effort as we know, but next year will be nice to get more than one big single player game and good regular flow of releases over the year from their first party end. There's Ghost later this year which I can't wait for.

Looking forward to next years Wolverine, Marvel tokon, and Saros. Will enjoy DS2 for many hours this year.

the output of a lot of Sony studios is rather bad, games taking forever to develop and lot of stuff canceled and never shown. Just meaning the number of games, not necessarily quality. But wth is MM doing? From the established teams they seem to be the only one having done nothing so far for PS5 at all. Not even a Dreams port for PS5 and VR2...

They're learning their lesson like never before, BUT this doesn't change the fact that we might as well erased the current generation cuz most of those games won't be ready before next gen. That's so fucked.

That's not what evolving/multi-genre means i believe. It could just mean a single player game with an online element too it and not live service.

Take a wild guess at what MM is doing...
Hint: It's not single player

(with GAAS games being cancelled left and right now, I have no doubt Sony will shutdown the studio).

Looks like all studios under Evolving/ Multi genre are still working on GAAS.

I wonder if that slide is up to date. Blue Point Games and Bend WERE working on canceled GAAS games. Does the fact they're still listed in the "evolving/multi genre" category mean they're still in GAAS development hell?

I'm pretty sure that the Horizon Online game being developed by Guerrilla is a live service title. They didn't categorize the studio as live service because they'll also be working on a 3rd game in the Horizon SP trilogy.

Sony perfected the singleplayer narrative driven games. This is their jam.
Since they are also in the movie and music business, they have access to better writers, directors and sound engineers. Not that they are fully involved but I am pretty sure the PS Studios consult with them.
The cutscenes in most PS Studios games are really high quality, well written and well acted, well directed and they have immersive music.
I am glad they are dropping Live service games. Let the cobbler stick to their last.

I think every studio listed in that category is working on a single player game that online elements/online mode because otherwise bluepoint, sony bend, etc would be listed in the live service section if they were working on live service games and not the multi-genre section as they're currently.

Nice to see the course-correct, though I kinda lament multiplayer needing to be live-service when some of their games came packed with excellent multiplayer modes. Back in the day you could just play with your friends when you wanted, but didn't feel it was trying to be your second job in the PS1-PS3 eras.

Shaun The Sheep Movie Ok GIF

(slightly wrong though because Evolving/Multi Genre can include Live Service ie Polyphony, but yes, only 4 pure Live Service Studios as Gran Turismo can be played as purely single player at least)

Edit2: But also, wasnt this known AGES ago, and Bungie has been listed that way since the leadership shit the bed and Sony took more control (from 2024: https://www.sony.com/en/SonyInfo/IR/library/presen/business_segment_meeting/pdf/2024/GNS_E.pdf the only difference for Live Service is Firewalk, and we know what happened to them)

After wasting 5 years and breaking the momentum of their most valuable studios. Like, Ubisoft and EA have "found reason" so called and it was still never the same.

Btw intergalactic and wolverine are both going to be bangers. I'm not betting against naughty dog when it comes to single player games.
Based on the leaks, unless Insomniac went back to the drawing board, Wolverine was not going to live up to potential.

Intergalactic seems like a trolling initiative more than an actual game at this point.

See you in five years then...

I want Sony to go back to a PS3 mentality. Throw a bunch of new IP and new ideas at the wall and see what sticks, just don't make the mistake of hyper focusing only on those games the entire following gen. Keep the creativity and unique games flowing.

I guess these studios are making both single and live service games.

Horizon Online can be a multiplayer mode/part of Horizon 3, for example. Gran Turismo 7 is fully playable as a single player game, etc.

Naughty Dog has always been excellent with their level and gameplay design, I can't wait to see where they go with this due to what they've said in confidence on these aspects.

Can't wait to see them pushing the ps5 to its limits hardware wise. The last of us part 2 still has some of the best animation work to this day and the combat was phenomenal. I think intergalactic is going to do crazy things gameplay wise and level design wise that we haven't seen before. They're one of the few studios that i know can deliver.

Maybe just like a standard game with single player story mode and a multiplayer mode just like COD or Battlefield or even Uncharted 2.

Single Player games are the best kind of game for a platform owner to make. Because Live Service makes the most money when it is on every piece of hardware, and Sony can make 30% money with no risk by just hosting third party games. You know, the point of the entire business model.

Also, making live service would mean competing for dollars with the 3rd party games on your own platform anyway. You are better off making Single Player games that are in demand and have a finite goal. You make them, release them, then move on with the next game. It might not be trendy but as a platform owner you are suppose to boost the titles that make people want to buy your hardware.

Why try to beat Fortnite when you can just ask Fortnite for 30% rent?

The wolverine combat leaks looked perfect honestly with alot of brutal kills and dismemberment which is what wolverine should be. The story won't be a masterpiece, but if the level design and combat hits then the game will be really good and worth a buy.

Intergalactic needs to show off a gameplay demonstration because naughty dog gameplay is usually top tier. If they can nail the aesthetic and create a great story then it'll be a banger. I feel like alot of the hate for the game is the bald protagonist, but it seems like she was shaving her head for a reason that they'll probably explain in a gameplay deep dive or story trailer.
