Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

The FF7 remake team did switch to UE4, but inexplicably chose to stick with UE4 in 2020 right around the time Expedition 33 devs were starting out with a total of 1 graphics programmer. they eventually hired 4 and managed to upgrade to UE5.4 mid dev and ship the game at 60 fps without stuttering.

We all know UE5 was even worse 4 years ago and even year after it still had attrocious issues with Open Worlds despite Epic trying to advertise it specifically for them.

Expecting a AAA open world sequel to be an early adopter of experimental tech was always crazy, a small scale turn based rpg or some corridor walking sim looking good 4 years later doesn't change that.

I know exactly what you mean. But this isn`t the infancy of shaders anymore where normal skin looked like a mooncrater landscape. That was "more detail than in real life". RE9 is just..... old/not well done/puppetface and HB2 looks pretty spot on....

Not sure why we want remake part 3 on unreal 5. It's been a mess of an engine all gen and rebirth looked phenomenal on unreal 4. The graphics and art style are perfect for the game.

The comparison to Clair obscure isn't exactly fair. The games resolution on consoles is painfully low and the iq is very obvious despite great graphics and art style

Switching to unreal 5 just seems like a bad idea and adding on delays and even years of development extra.

I'm sorry, for me, not only that graphically the game is far from phenomenal, but it doesn't even look better than 1st part, in fact in some areas it looks worse.

The art style may be good, but the textures are weak and lighting is nightmare inducing.

Unreal 5 will run better in 2-3 years by the time it will release, don't see a problem in switching, it would help them immensely with the textures, lighting and draw distance, especially since they want a bigger map.
That or just squeezing the life out of Unreal 4.
 
It would honestly be too weird for me if Final Fantasy 7 Part 3 was on Unreal Engine 5 and looked a generation beyond the first two parts. Considering the 'remake' should've been one game if the task wasn't so monumental.

Keep it looking a bit shitty to maintain consistency. In my head cannon, it all came out on PS4 as one big game.

I think their troubles go beyond which engine it is. Like basic rendering pipeline and artist stuff.

I just think Japanese devs have a hard time making white characters. They either look like they're clipped out of magazines or they look like these weird, non-human beings with really bad hair.

I retouched her eyes on the right to look more natural (darker) - she looks Japanese. Which is great, because she looks more like a real person.

They seem to think that just changing eye and hair color on a character will make them look more western when it actually just looks like shit.

Really impressed by Vindictus. Did not even know this game existed. Excellent lighting and asset quality. The bricks and wooden buildings look exceptional. Great use of hero lighting on the character. Sadly the foliage looks bad and all trees look atrocious.

Black Myth Wukong 2 on PS6 at launch is gonna be fucking glorious. Make it happen, Game Science.

The art direction and enemy design is every bit as good as From Software. Except here we have competent combat and stellar visuals. The sequel to this game is right up there with my most anticipated.

If Wukong had better IQ it would be right up there with the best looking games of the gen

Key word, "thrived" not pushed the boundaries of the medium. Capcom and FromSoft have been shipping broken games for two years by now, carried by past design philosophies that made them big. Nintendo showed up with the most technically disappointing launch title in a whole decade (if not all time, barring console failures) and Sega outright gave up, they are literally farming out most of their IPs to indies and subsidiaries. Mario ain't releasing this year, I'd be seriously surprised if it did but... As a japanese centric player by inertia, they are not doing as well creatively as you might be led to believe.
Not to mention capcom shat the bed hard with both dogma 2 and wilds and fromsoft doing not 1 but 2 cashgrab gaas that noboody asked for, the narrative of japanese devs never failing is a fading legend at best.

Japan/Asia market has only got better looking at sales with a lot of their games this gen, I do think the popularity of anime with younger generation has helped boomed this more going by what Sony pointed.

Square Enix Wise I would like to see them jump fully into Unreal 5 implementing the work they have done (if possible) with the modified unreal 4 tools they have used for the FF7 Remake project. They could do some amazing stuff here for the future.

I actually think she looks, with original eyes, somewhat of Finnish origin, maybe a few gens back, but still I get that nice Finnish hint. Of course, a Japanese studio will still have its Japanese sensibilities inserted into what they find attractive, but I keep thinking I want to make her my Finnish waifu each time I see her. :messenger_smiling_hearts:

Interesting new details about the PS5 handheld. It's built on 3nm (ps5 is 7nm) and is using UDNA (next gen RDNA) and kepler (the leaker) says the performance per CU is way better than RDNA GPUs.

The PS6 should also be built on the same 3nm node and UDNA architecture, and if the IPC gains are 50% more, we could be looking at a 30 tflops PS6 GPU that perform like 45 tflops PS5 GPUs. At least around 4090 performance. Maybe somewhere between a 4090 and 5090 depending on the ray tracing/path tracing performance on this new UDNA architecture.

The Sony CEO said they are now focused on the PS6 which is bizarre to me because the gen has barely started but i think they must have been forced to sign some contracts for these high demand chips and have no choice but to launch in 2027 or 2028. I expect them to be expensive around $700-800, but the performance should be way better than the Pro thanks to the much smaller node and architecture. We might all be playing path traced Witcher 4, Wukong 2, Control 2 and maybe even GT8 on the PS6 come 2027.

Dont forget to do all the secret areas in each Act, because thats what unlocks the final mission which is the most amazing next gen battle ive seen all gen.

Series S was the litmus test. no one downgraded their games for it. Everyone treated that console like a bastard child. PS5 was the base console this gen and the same will happen with the PS6 after the cross gen period ends some time around 2030.

Just look at how no one is porting games to the switch 2. CD project got paid by Nintendo, you are getting outlaws later in the year, but other than that? Nothing. So many great new games released this year and last year, and no one gives a shit. Devs will only port to it if nintendo offers them billions and even then they will downport it.

i was in microcenter yesterday hoping for some fathers day sales on the 5080 and they were all $1,500. i dont think im spending $1,500 just to get 65% better performance. that would only get me to around 50 fps.

i switch to 60 fps for my ng+ runs or bosses that are giving me trouble. but i like to play games like ac shadows, sh2, wukong and outlaws at their best.

I actually recorded a video of just how smooth my 30 fps cap was on wukong.

I personally expect something around 4080/5080 performance in 2027/2028. Sony won't make bleeding edge device with TSMC prices. I doubt they want to release 999$ console.

I finally decided last night after seeing footage of it maxed on a 4090 with Full Ray Tracing (and CDPR focusing on 60fps trash on consoles) that I will eventually be buying a PC.

Im annoyed that if I buy one this year, the PS6 will drop in 2-3 years and then my expensive ass PC will be obsolete again.

What gear should I be looking at to run this game at 4K ultra settings, full ray tracing, 30fps, dlss, etc?

As for the game: Im just hearing about this. i will be googling what bosses i need to beat to unlock them. I beat the Tiger in Chapter 2, i know thats one of them. Currently at the Black Looong in Chapter 2 (hidden boss with crazy strong electricity) Hope I can go back to chapter 1 and beat it because i missed that too.

The difference in capacity between a portable and a ps6 is gonna be super huge, you have to fundamentaly make 2 completely different version of your game if you are actually an ambitious dev that wanna push the machine to 110%.

So the solutions are 2, they are gonna make way less ambitious games that can run with only lower graphical settings on a portable but without any leap forward in physics, destruction, ai, npcs\enemies on screen at the same time.

Or they are gonna waste a shitload of money making 2 completely different version of every game they wanna port on ps6 portable.

One solution sound horrible for us, the other seems impossible for greedy ass sony\third parties, maybe third parties are gonna ignore the portable, but not fucking sony since it's their machine and they have to support it.

The "best" option would be for third parties and sony to make apposite, different games for the portable that are not mixed with the ps6 games, but even that would translate in dev studios wasting menpower and money in portable games instead of dedicating all their efforto for big boy games.
Every aspect of this shit is nightmerish.

P.s. you have no idea what the dev downgraded in their games to make it run on series s, you only see the final product, not what they cut during development so you have absolutely no way to say if a dev is limiting themselves.

4080 minimum. the other cards are all vram bound so you wont be able to run path tracing in some games.

you can go back to the earlier chapters up until the final boss fight in chpater 6. dont sweat it that early in the game. once you reach chapter 6, and get the wukong suit, go back and look up guides on how to do those secret areas.

5070 ti is only 47% more powerful than your 3080. 4080 is 49%. 5080 is 69%. 4090 is 95%. To me, double the performance is worth an upgrade. anything below that is a scam for $1,500.

yes, we dont know what devs might have done behind the scenes to hold back physics and destruction, but we know that Baldurs Gate 3 and Wukong devs refused to ship on the Xbox just because of the series s. So at least two devs were like go suck a dick MS.

I also remember a lot of early gen games that shipped without ray tracing on the series s. Most recently ac shadows. So at least in terms of visuals, devs treated the series like the aborted fetus it is and chose not to downgrade the experience for the rest of us.

by the time, the ps5 portable comes out, the ps5 will be at 100-120 million units sold, no one is going to downgrade anything just for a new handheld that will likely flop like the vita because lets face it no one is going to buy a $699 sony handheld.

ps6 will be held back mostly by the ps5, at least for the first 3-4 years. Maybe longer. it took 2 years for cross gen to end this generation. it might take 4 years next gen. that is going to be the big problem next gen, not some portable that will top out at 10-20 million sales.

btw, the cpu upgrade you did was actually pretty good. you shouldve seen a difference coming off of that trashy zen 2 card.

i am looking to upgrade to the 7800x3d and benchmarks show a fairly decent performance increase even at 1440p and 4k for the same GPU. a lot of RT games are CPU heavy and can hold back the GPU. Same goes for Ue5 games which are also CPU bound, at least they used to be prior to UE5.4.

Well, that´s nothing new, though. With how development costs have exploded AAA games will now generally have very long cross gen periods. The PS5 will not be an exception, but the new normal. Maybe Sony will not completely fuck up their release pipeline next gen, though.

Yeah, if a PS6 comes out it will be at best between a 4090 and a 5090, even in some fantasy land where the ps6 uses ai and APU efficiency enhancements to deliver something 10-15% more powerful than a 5090 powered rig, your desktop would still run most games better than most setups.
