Game Console Tier List (attempt at being as objective as possible, if I were being biased than the list would look VERY different)

Obviously this all doesn't matter that much because the average attachment rate for a game system is 6-12 games per system sold, and all of these systems, especially relative to their time periods, have at least 10 excellent games on them

Certain picks that I'm iffy on = SNES in S tier, DS in S tier, and WII in A tier, all of these can easily be A+/B tier

Picks that I will defend till the day I die = n64 in B tier for its horrendous third party support, Switch in S tier, Sega Saturn in A tier for it having the highest attachment rate of any home console ever, and its exclusives that easily go toe to toe with the best of the PlayStation even if the PlayStation overall has more good games

TBH barely, Some Alex Kidd games, outrun, Sonic 1 downgrade, and Sonic 2 Downgrade, forgot what Sega collection or mini console I played it on since it was years ago, I know about its excellent performance in Europe and brazil but 311 games is pretty weak, the general consensus is that the NES completely smokes it (which I now realise that I forgot to include it in this list wtf, anyways NES is an A tier system but it could easily be B tier IMO)

The Game consoles on this list that I put the least amount of time into are the Master System, Game Gear, PSP, and the Xbone (which doesn't matter because it had no exclusives) apart from that I played a lot of these systems libraries through emulation
 
personally, i think PSP is better than PS3, but that's me.
the amount of PSP games library, which unknown for lot of gamers are beyond others. unfortunately, they are mostly exclusive in japan
 
I would move the PlayStation 2 and the DS down to A+
Move the 360 up to S, it is one of the better gaming generations and 360 was the system to be on
Move Dreamcast up to A for sure
N64 belongs in B, don't let people gaslight you. In fact you could probably move N64 down to C and the Wii down to B
Where is the NES? It is loaded with garbage but the top 40 or so games are so great and genre defining I would put it at A+
I would also have OG Xbox at A+, best system of that generation, PS2 is overrated.

My bias per generation is Genesis/Saturn/Xbox/PS3/PS4/PS5, but it is fact that SNES is the best 16bit console, PS1 is the better 32bit, and the 360 nets out as better then the PS3.

S tier: NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube, ps1, ps2, atari 2600, sega genesis, gameboy advance sp.

A tier: DS, psp, wii, ps3 'fat version with native ps1 and ps2 backwards compatibility', xbox 360, ps4, switch, sega saturn.


B tier: 3ds, original xbox, ps5, series s/x, sega saturn, sega mastersystem.


C tier: Vita 'isn't lower only cause u can mod it', xbox one.


F tier: Wii u.

I'm pretty sure ps4 broke that record(as well as highest sw sales of any console to date).
But DD changed the game. Switch should match or beat ps2 previous record(and attach for that matter) which is not something traditional handhelds ever competed with either.

NES is in S tier no matter what. That console saved gaming and is in goat status. Also the n64 was transformative when it came out and the graphics and animations were out of this world for the time period. They're both S tier goat consoles. Plus the gameboy advance is wayyyyy too low.

In my opinion, PS1 can't be lower than S. This console had a huge impact on the console industry and market, and in general opened the way to the world of 3D games for many. One of the most important and influential consoles that came out.
 
Disagree with those saying PS3 should be lower. Do think 3DS should be higher, but pretty solid for the most part.

Don't really understand the list. What are your objective measurements. The Nintendo 64 is much too low. Sold almost as much as the GameCube, Dreamcast and Saturn combined and the games were very influential. Is it sake, influence etc. if I was being biased I would put the Sega consoles at the top but I can't think of a single reason to put it above the N64.
 
I swear i live in an alternate timeline from everyone...PS3 era was such a tough time for Playstation. Jesus christ.
The huge failure rate, the hack, the fact older PS3 consoles bricked on February 29 because the console didn't acknowledge that date, all 3rd party games running worse on it vs Xbox360.

How is that console at the same level as PS4 and PS One? Both of those gens were immaculate in comparison lol.

For me, it was the first party games. They were outstanding on PS3.

Theoretically, you can make a tier list based only on statistical data - the number of copies sold, the impact that the console's release on the market had, the game library, etc. It's just that usually in such cases the results will not suit everyone (As an example, in this case you will need to put Wii in S, since this is one of the most popular consoles that Nintendo has ever released and after its release it actually launched the motion controller market, absolutely everyone tried to repeat the success). It's just that usually tier lists that are based on pure statistics are even more controversial than those that are made based on their tastes and nostalgia. :messenger_grinning:
 
Is that a joke!? Putting the Switch in the S-tier? It's a port system. The Nintendo games that have been released can't justify poor hardware or the lack of third-party games.

The PS1 is an S-tier system. It revolutionized gaming and established many new IPs that are still well-known today.
