Microsoft has announced job cuts at Xbox Division

Already posted this in the other thread but how can anyone believe anything that comes out of this guys mouth?
He destroyed the xbox brand.

Honestly I don't see why anyone thinks Phil is responsible? Microsoft as a whole are making cuts, this is not just Xbox but obviously they're included. Going through this thread you'd think the entire layoffs are in the Xbox division. It's sad news regardless but once again the rumours of Xbox's demise are greatly exaggerated.
 
MS was never a company I hated, but I think I have reached the point where I do. I hate almost everything about them these days. Bought out so many company's only to kill them and their work.

I mean sure, MS is making cuts everywhere (despite raking in record profits year after year after year), but that doesn't absolve Phil and of his terrible management of Xbox.

He's literally at the helm of all of it for years, he can't manage for shit, Booty can't manage for shit, they can't understand what good quality is if it hits them in their face.

There's still a Black Panther game in dev because for some reason EA had two going. I think the other one is the 1943 Hydra title with Amy Hennig involved.

They just did Blade dirty tho. Screwed over an easy lay-up of a film because Disney wanted to push identity politics and give Blade a daughter to girlboss into the MCU. Now the game's dead in part because of Disney/Marvel screwing up.

So now the cancelled games are: Everwild, Zenimax MMORPG, Blade and Perfect Dark? Massive blow with the last one, that's gonna hurt MS's credibility going forward. Waiting for Ninja Theory cuts (not expecting a studio closure).

Thing is, news cycle is deliberately messy and some shit will float out of the corpo info-pocket after days or even weeks.

That what MS initially planned, to rely on staggered reporting to hide the real scale of layoffs and sheer incopetence of the Xbox leadership.
 
This is what happens when you turn Xbox into a subscription service, coupled with a mega-corporation like Microsoft's lack of interest in creating jobs. Next year, they'll be out with huge profits, there's no doubt about it.

I don't understand why there are still fans of the Xbox/GamePass brand.

Basically all for optics.

On the hardware front, at least they are working with AMD on purpose-built APUs for the next Xbox devices. That is a plus, at the end of the day, IMO. Should make native Xbox BC possible with them.

But I'm expecting no actual new next-gen device from Microsoft proper going forward; they'll just have OEMs continue hardware for them, just like that Gestridens leak mentioned. They never did miss.

Unless NT's cost efficiencies are best ever, this studio has got to be cut too. Their games barely sell.

But maybe MS keeps them around as the studio that can pump out great graphics. So they are kept intact as graphical hype-jobbers.

Fable wasn't at the recent Showcase though. They only gave guarantees to games shown at the latest Showcase.

So we don't know what Fable's fate will be, actually, and it was probably further behind in development than Perfect Dark which just got cancelled.

Maybe they keep them as a support studio for UE game development.
 
This is looking like a pure budget realignment move for now.

Basically the Xbox unit has had its annual allocation slashed and Phil & co are just chopping off the "dead wood". Meaning that the actual reorganization of what's left is yet to come. More studio closures, and even more likely, mergers will likely follow as the projects that are currently ongoing complete.

Yeah, I don't think Fable is safe at all. IIRC, we've seen less of Fable than we did of Perfect Dark, which is a bad sign in and of itself. The last thing we saw was still listed as pre-alpha. On top of that, its development is tying up the studio that's behind Forza Horizon, which is a known quantity over a Fable reboot.

I really wouldn't be surprised if Fable gets canned and they put all of Playground's resources into getting the next Forza Horizon game out ASAP.

Some of this is just Microsoft letting go of the sunk cost fallacy.

There's just something really wrong with how some of their studios have been managed.
