I think the years of lies, censorship and lack of accountability created a very militaristic wing in the left that lives in its own reality. After all for years, media and corporations have been propping them up by banning other views or telling them lies from TV, creating a fake reality. Only for it to collapse with Trump's election. Add to that COVID isolation and you basically had groups of brainwashed people, who act as militant religious zealots. And it is a cult because one of the classic cult tactics is to cut off family members. Add to that judges who give minimal sentences. Zero accountabillity from politicians over lies. Etc.

Political assassinations is a precursor to a civil war.

I dunno, on a target range sure, a COM shot goes high and hits the neck. But to lay up there and press trigger on a live human.....that's a lot of adrenaline to deal with unless the guy was popping xanax or had experience/training. Just like the Luigi guy, these hits are so cold and emotionless, its bizarre how folks can commit them on people they (probably) don't even know and have never met. There has got to be drugs involved.

I don't believe the neck was the first thing that was struck

30-06 is a very large and powerful caliber and hitting the soft tissue of the neck it would have just poked a small hole as it passed through

The amount of blood (to me having hunted large game for 40 years) indicates the bullet hit something hard and had the chance to expand and splinter before entering his neck, most likely as others have pointed out glancing off a bullet proof vest

I've seen a few people suggest it deflected off a vest before traveling up to the neck, you might be right.

My take is the shot was aimed at the head and the neck was hit because the distance indeed made the shot difficult. The person had one clean shot, two if it was willing to take another shot with the panic ensuing.

Regardless, I think if this is pinned on someone, the profile will be very similar to Trump's shooter.

We'll see what the future holds.

It does seem quite baseless imo.

He made the shot, but no other aspect seems like it would require an unusually high skill level or plan. He's not infiltrating a Secret Service secured site here, which the other kid magically managed to do with absolutely no inside help of course.

Just yesterday, my oldest friend broke up with me. A different one. I'm now down to three or four friends from before 2022, when I shocked my liberal circle by joining The Free Press.

It wasn't lost on me that this happened within hours of the news of Charlie Kirk's murder. If there was ever a time for coming together, it was now.

And yet here she was, telling me that she didn't want to associate with me anymore because of who I am. When we discussed certain issues like Israel, she realized we actually weren't that far apart. We both believe in a two state solution and want the war to end. And yet, she couldn't knock her overwhelming suspicion that I was bad.

She said it as kindly as possible but uninvited me from her wedding.

There is something wrong in this country.

What happened yesterday is not an aberration—it is who we are becoming. We are a nation that celebrated Luigi Mangione, Biden's cancer diagnosis, and now the murder of Kirk.

If we keep heading down this road, we won't need enemies abroad—we'll destroy ourselves from within.

Especially the super slow version, you can tell he is hit center mass chest first

The vest seems to have failed in what they are intended to do though which is catch, deform and trap shrapnel from doing what it did

Plus that picture you can see the shirt being pulled up by the bullets travel

I wonder if he had a plate, he'd almost have to to stop a 30-06, right? A tragic low frequency consequence if true.
 
Kinda seems like the worst thing for the Pres to do in terms of sowing division - to just blame it on the radical left.

It could just as easily be:

1. Someone who lost their job in DOGE cuts and went nuts.

2. Someone who was unhinged who didn't like what this guy was saying about Ukraine/NATO.

3. Someone affiliated with those drug smugglers who were on TV getting blown up by missiles the other week.


The list goes on and on…

I cant see a blue haired landwhale going from protesting about signage on publc toilets to picking up a sniper rifle.

RIP by the way - never heard of the guy before, but he had a young family and was just using words at the end of the day.

I was surprised that my work colleagues were all seriously affected with Kirk's death. I didn't even think they knew him. One even said that this is a societal tipping point.

Totally meant for a different thread but I don't agree with judging Lebron by how many Finals he lost because of some of the teams he took to the finals

For example the year after MJ left Chicago the first time that team still went 55-27 only losing 2 more regular season games then when they had MJ

Lebrons last year at Cleveland they went 61-21 (which he took to the NBA Finals a couple of years prior) to the very next year when he left to 19-63

I think MJ was the greatest but I don't use the Finals as any sort of metric

What we are seeing here seems to be the outcome of a decade long dehumanisation of the people on the right.

We started hearing that 'Trump is a nazi', 'Hitler' even. Then the word 'literal' was added to the mix, to make sure that the dehumanisation isn't seen as just symbolic - 'Elon is a literal nazi'.

Very few people would disagree with that Hitler deserved to die, or that Nazis involved in the genocide should have been killed. When you repeat for years that the right are 'literal nazies', even fairly mainstream, probably mostly well-meaning people like Kotaku editors and Bungie / Suckerpunch developers come to dehumanise the right to an extent where they celebrate the assassination of a 'literal nazi' - a dad with controversial right wing opinions who wanted to engage in verbal debate with the left.

Basically, 'literal nazis' in 2020s is what 'rats/parasites' were in the 1930s-1940s, or what 'cockroaches' were in 1994. A way to dehumanise a group of people to the point that a large mainstream audience accepts their extermination.

I have plates but only rated to stop .223 or standard AR15 rounds

People that don't hunt or shoot don't realize how powerful a 30-06 round is

The bottom round here is 30-06 and the top is standard AR15 ammo

Sadly unlikely to happen. The media landscape has slowly turned to becoming as divisive as possibly. There is little room for journalistic integrity and the largest news platforms are split between two sides of the political spectrum with an us vs them mentality throughout. Things are just going to get worse and more divisive by design and it won't be good for anyone.
 
There is some deep irony here, all these people coming out about how the left are vile and how "it's up to us", no confidence at all they would have same reaction if Pelosi actually died. Is it true that Kirk wanted that pelosi attacker freed? What about those democrats assisinated a few months ago?

When your entire schtick is deep rooted in some very fine grained, sophisticated hypocrisy, it's just hard to take seriously. Just trying to be real.

I was absolutely shocked by it and I'm a Nordic. I've glanced at his videos here and there and appreciated that he went to hostile places to debate and have conversations. I'm rarely strongly affected emotionally by world events, but this had an impact on me.
