When it comes to harmful online rhetoric and stuff, I think as a society we need to start getting really serious about how we deal with this stuff. People say "We need to go on social media and disavow this stuff strongly" and that is true, there's nothing wrong with doing that. But that alone won't be close to enough. The internet and social media are far too big now. There's too many communities. Private communities, chat communities, apps, websites, etc. Everyone can find a place to go to get bombarded with rhetoric. Controlling the narrative is no longer possible.
The change needs to come in the home when your kids are young. You need to teach them good values and teach them when they are old enough to understand what constitutes crazy rhetoric. That calling everyone a Nazi and fascist is wrong and explain why. So when they get older they hear this stuff and that "anti-virus" protection you've already installed in them kicks in and their trained mind rejects it. Otherwise, they are just going to be a blank canvass waiting to be painted on and if they find their way to the wrong corners of their internet, they could be poisoned. And as sad as it is to say, universities seem to be breeding grounds for this type of rhetoric. So if you send your kids to college make sure to keep up with what they're learning and stay on top of them.
