His words are admirable, but we have seen for a long time now that one side has no interest in an off-ramp. That would leave them with the societal status quo, which is intolerable to them and contrary to their aims. If violence is the only way of achieving their unpopular vision for society, they cannot accept any off-ramp which precludes their continued use violence as a political tool to achieve it.
Influential voices from the 'other side' were calling for a civil war, posting extremely incendiary and inflammatory rhetoric and vowing revenge.
Seeing all this from the outside of USA. You guys need to shake hands and be friends. The rhetoric that's been going on for far too long needs to stop, if you want to live in an open society. It's okay to be against and for things that you don't agree with. Far-left and far-right seems to be the problem, so try to meet in the middle - it's been done before. The alternative will be devastating.

It's terrible. None of this makes - or keeps - America great and the only ones who benefit from this shit are the Russians and Chinese.
People are gleefully speedrunning the division of their country and it's terrible.
