Rockstar Says GTA 6 'Will Be The Largest Game Launch in History’

The company's claim — which few are likely to argue with — was published as part of a job advertisment viewable via Rockstar's website. In it, the developer says it is seeking a lead software engineer to ensure everything goes smoothly when GTA 6 finally arrives next year.

Rockstar's lucky candidate will work with "some of the most talented people in the industry", the company said, to help develop the data platform behind the upcoming behemoth.
"With the continued growth of Grand Theft Auto Online and the upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto 6, the successful candidate will lead both the evolution and operation of the data platform supporting what will be the largest game launch in history," Rockstar wrote, "ensuring it scales to deliver an exceptional experience for millions of players worldwide."

At the time of writing, the most recent version of the job ad (first spotted on social media by TheGTABase) no longer includes this paragraph, though IGN was able to view an older, archived version of the page to verify it was previously present.

No doubt about it. But hopefully this game has been through the ringer in terms of optimization. What will hold it back will be bugs and bad control mechanics. Hopefully they nail those.

Another Fortnite, Roblox type title that will suck up the hours of an entire generation of gamers for the next decade meaning the rest of the industry has to work ever harder to drive interest into their projects.

I don't doubt it.

Can also see why (even though it's shity) Sony aren't bothering with many first party titles right now. Why would they. They have the marketing for GTA, and it's going to sell a crazy amount of PS5s for them.

Actually, this is true. GTA is just too big of a phenomenon, you like it or not. I'm not excited at all by it, but it'll be the biggest release of gaming history for sure. If people thought Wukong sold fast, then expect 30+ million copies of GTA6 in a month. It is THAT big.

Eh, I think GTA VI is overrated, the animations are lackluster and the gameplay mechanics don't excite me much. Not to mention the bugs and underwhelming sidecharacters.

I hope they fix these things with GTA VII, but that's probably like ten years into the future.

They definitely need to tighten up the graphics on Level 3.

Yep, personally I only really liked Vice City and IV (with DLCs). But tens of millions will buy it in the first month alone.

Easily the largest and won't even be close.

And it'll also be one of the top best games of all times too only rivaled by Fallout 5 and Elder Scrolls VI and a World of Warcraft 2.

I hope it's good, the single player story I mean. May be a day one for me, unless I hear some bad things as it gets closer to release.
