GTA 6 will earn $7.6bn in two months and be the "largest gaming release of all time", investment firm predicts

We only got 2 trailers as of now so ofc cant be 100% certain, but from what i saw, game gonna be huge hit, easily 50m sold copies in 2025 even if it gets delayed from may to say sept or oct release.
And it will sell that much even at 80$ pricetag, hell who knows maybe rockstar decides to sell it at 99$ pricetag and ppl will still buy 50m copies at launch/launch window so full price :)

7,6bn of revenue, even if we assume highest possible pricetag so 99$, thats close to 80m copies sold in 2 months, not impossible but not very probable after all :P

GTA V is still the biggest release of all time and that was not on PC either. GTA 6 will absolutely smash the record for best launch of a game
GTA5 released in the 7th year of the PS3 lifecicle and 8th of X360 if my math is correct. Around that time both consoles combined would have something around 150 million sales, making it a relase for a 150 million userbase. The total userbase of PS5 and series consoles are lower than that, around 110 million, and xbox series players are buying much less games than X360 players. So i still doubt it will beat GTA5 release. The only diference that might give an advantage to GTA6 is that GTA4 and 5 released in the same gen, so the thirst for the GTA5 was not as big as it is for GTA6.

Don't forget Sony's 30%
At $80 That leaves $56 per copy for Rockstar.
Yeah Rockstar have almost definitely gotten a break on that 30% like CoD got. Plus with online mtx, special editions etc you can bet they will be hoping to net on average over $100 per copy sold in those first months.

That number should be closer to 125mil by the time GTA 6 is released. Also, the hardcore gamers that buy games day 1 are much more likely to buy consoles early in the generation. It won't even be close, imo. The GTA franchise has grown so much since GTA 5 released

GTA 5's lifetime earnings are around $ 8 billion, so there's no way GTA 6 could achieve that in just 2 months. This is more of a marketing piece to generate hype; I doubt they believe it themselves.

the current gen hunger for blockbuster titles is real: all this jacked-up hardware, & so few games to take advantage of it...

note: as a 1080p gamer, it all don't really matter much to me, personally. i'd just like more decent games, blockbusters or not...

The majority of the player base of GTAV is still gaming on PS4 and it's been 13 years since the last GTA.

It will do significant numbers of PS5 consoles sold and the game could do 40-50m. units sold in first week.

I think a lot of people really underestimate the power of GTAVI.

PlayStation 5 will have about 100 million sold by May of next year & Both will have ways for people to play the game without owning a PS5 or Xbox Series by then if Rockstar allows it & they have the server capacity to handle a big release like this.

I think 100 million is gonna be hard by may. Imo it will be closer to 90 million sold.

Although I guess GTA6 could get people grabbing ps5s way before launch.

As we speak PS5 is creeping to 80 million & after the holidays it should be at 90 million then the lead up to GTAVI should bring it close to 100 million unless something crazy happens.

Lucky to get half of that in a year. Cost of living crisis, high console costs and only 1 viable growth platform known at launch. I will be day one but that is a daft number.

The math doesn't work.
$7.6 billion, even if you assumed $100 price tag, would be 76 million copies sold . More likely is the $80 price tag in which case they'd need to sell close to 100 million units in the first 2 month to hit that target.
GTAV sold 29 million copies in its first 6 weeks. Which means this would have to sell at about triple the pace of GTAV. Has any franchise tripled its sales from the previous installment?
I have no doubt GTAVI will break records and will eventually get to $7.6 billion and beyond. But I think to do that in 60 days is a bit over enthusiastic.

The PS5 and X Box servers are going to crash on release day.
It's actually interesting because a digital release like this will certainly shift about an exabyte of data across both Xbox and PS. A conservative estimate on CoD MW 2 was ~600 petabytes in a week (millions of users downloading ~100 GB) and GTA 6 will be a much larger release. I don't think their servers will go down because all of it can be scaled up and down dynamically, but the sheer amount of bandwidth will definitely cost them money.

Wukong was 1.2 exabyte in 7 days in China alone, which is fucking ludicrous.

I am interested in its technical merits, mechanics, and physics. A part of me has always hoped that the franchise would have more interactive elements and seamless interiors. I do not expect a narrative or mission structure that keeps my interest though. In fact, if it is more than GTA V with better graphics I will be surprised.

I mean, that is a lot, but shit...Rockstar has broken so many records, I'm not doubting shit this time lol

152 million copies on PS5 in 2 months?

edit-wait I keep forgetting Xbox still has a few million that might buy it. So only 130 million PS5 copies? I don't think that many PS5's exist in the world.
You forget the mtx he mentions. It's not going to be all game sales. He predicts 85M in 2 months. Not sure it will hit that but it's possible at least.

The prediction is 85 million copies sold in 2 months (@$80) and the rest from shark cards and subscriptions.
