Nate The Hate claims Sony presentation for next week

First time since 1995 I haven't had a Playstation. Sold my PS5 in prep for the pro to release and then realized .. wait I don't actually want this thing anymore. They could change my mind of course but ... well ... they haven't yet.
Yeah I have a Pro..a really bad deal imho.. but it is what it is .. I'll ride until far next gen... Im too old for FOMO so I can wait and see if Im going to buy a ps6 or go to PC... have to see what sony is going to do in a lot of fronts because right now I dont feel like supporting this company at all.

Third parties dependence, first party almost non existence the entire PS5 generation, GaaS all over the fucking place.

Was shit.
What third-party dependence? Electronic Arts, Warner Bros, Ubisoft and Take Two have been a no-show for the most part of the current console generation. And when it comes to Japanese publishers, Sony has been able to actually secure a handful of notable exclusives - Final Fantasy and Silent Hill games - from them, which is a net win for them and the ecosystem, not something to be ashamed of.

In regards to your claim of "no first-party for the entire PS5 generation" you just couldn't be any more wrong about it. Here are the last five SoPs:
  • January 2024: Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, Physint - Stellar Blade - Rise of the Ronin - Until Dawn - Helldivers II.
  • May 2024: Astro Bot - Concord - Until Dawn.
  • September 2024: Ghost of Yotei - LEGO Horizon Adventures - HZD Remastered - Stellar Blade update - Astro Bot update.
  • February 2025: Saros - Lost Soul Aside - Days Gone Remastered - Stellar Blade update.
  • June 2025: Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls - Ghost of Yotei - Astro Bot update.
How is an average of four first-party items at every State of Play - including a re-reveal or a look at an entirely new game at the end every one of them - an insufficient cadence? Not to mention how Bungie announces stuff by their own or just how LEGO Horizon and Intergalactic saw their reveals at Geoff Keighley events rather than Sony's.

Sony and PlayStation have just been coasting this whole gen. I don't even get excited anymore when a show is teased. It just sets me up for disappointment.

While SuckerPunch has the top 2 or 3 most Pre-Ordered game on the PlayStation store globally?!

FC 26 and Madden 26 had way more pre-orders, Forza Horizon 5 had way more, top 2 or 3 most pre-ordered? for what period? the only game available for pre-order that will have a lot of pre-orders is Battlefield 6, and it says it all that GOY is top 2 or 3 and not 1.

So if a game is top 2 or 3 and not 1 in preorders.......the studio should be shut down?

No point showing off Ghost of Yotei, they might as well shut down suckerpunch.

I agree. They have been drip feeding combat videos on youtube frequently and the deep dive already happened in July.

Maybe a small mention of it's forthcoming release, but I think they're done with the main advertisements of this game.

Every year (without Covid lockdowns) they had a pre TGS SoP, so make sure they'll have one this year too.

This in addition to the already announced stream they'll do showcasing some games in their TGS booth and the -I assume in closed doors- industry professionals targeted TGS talk about the history/anniversary of the PSN store and its influence in the industry.

What happened to the blow out events?
In the past they only had one event per year, the E3. Some rare years they also had announcements at TGS or Gamescom. So their stuff was packed thre.

Now Sony has over half a dozen SoP per year, plus Doritos Summer Fest, plus Doritos Awards, plus many 3rd partiea announce their stuff in their own events or directly releases trailers outside events. So their stuff gets spread across the year.

In addition to this, every generation the AAA games got longer, more detailed and complex, which means they take longer to be made. Which means each dev team (by dev team I don't mean company or studio with many teams) requires more years to release a new AAA game.

They may show a trailer of the PS6!
PS9

Sony has no games to showcase....
Nice joke

Showcase or state of play?
Every year they have over half a dozen SoP, plus game specific stuff plus some stuff for the Doritos Summer Fest or Doritos Awards.

This strategy or spreading announcements across the year is working for them better than to make a showcase and don't have any meaningful announcement for a year or two. Don't expect any showcase other than one in 2027 to announce PS6 and its first key games.

I'll be there for Saros, would be sweet with actual gameplay and a release date.
I've become less excited about Wolverine over time, tbh it's because I really can't think of many ways to make gameplay varied/innovative. I'd be happy to be completely wrong though. If any dev could make the game actually fun, Insomniac are probably among the best bets.

Would really appreciate some more entirely new stuff from PS studios. Many of their teams have only made sequels up to this point this gen, but I guess that comes with dev times getting longer. Really appreciate ND going all in on a brand new IP with Intergalactic, but it feels like it's years away still.

Sony are struggling to pump out the same number of exclusives from previous geneerations. Besides Wolverine, I'm not sure there are any first party titles that would make me throb.

That's why I approach these SoPs with rock bottom expectations.

This is my sentiment as well. Maybe, just fucking maybe, we'll finally hear something about that rumored FF9 remake/remaster.

No FF8 remake? 😢

Dunno. We only heard rumors about a FF9 remake/remaster. They were usually coupled with rumors about a FF Tactics remaster/remake, which came true.

Sony State of Plays are half dead to me. Japanese third party games are the only games I buy.
Good thing the majority of the last State of Play revolved around Japanese titles -- Marvel Tokon, Pragmata, Silent Hill f, Metal Gear Solid Delta, Romeo is a Dead Man, Lumines Arise, Final Fantasy Tactics -- and that this upcoming September SoP would be TGS-themed, as it always is.
