Every year (without Covid lockdowns) they had a pre TGS SoP, so make sure they'll have one this year too.
This in addition to the already announced stream they'll do showcasing some games in their TGS booth and the -I assume in closed doors- industry professionals targeted TGS talk about the history/anniversary of the PSN store and its influence in the industry.
What happened to the blow out events?
In the past they only had one event per year, the E3. Some rare years they also had announcements at TGS or Gamescom. So their stuff was packed thre.
Now Sony has over half a dozen SoP per year, plus Doritos Summer Fest, plus Doritos Awards, plus many 3rd partiea announce their stuff in their own events or directly releases trailers outside events. So their stuff gets spread across the year.
In addition to this, every generation the AAA games got longer, more detailed and complex, which means they take longer to be made. Which means each dev team (by dev team I don't mean company or studio with many teams) requires more years to release a new AAA game.
They may show a trailer of the PS6!
PS9
Sony has no games to showcase....
Nice joke
Showcase or state of play?
Every year they have over half a dozen SoP, plus game specific stuff plus some stuff for the Doritos Summer Fest or Doritos Awards.
This strategy or spreading announcements across the year is working for them better than to make a showcase and don't have any meaningful announcement for a year or two. Don't expect any showcase other than one in 2027 to announce PS6 and its first key games.
