Microsoft revamps Xbox Game Pass plans and hikes Ultimate to $29.99 a month, Ultimate gets Ubisoft+ Classics and more

That's equivalent to 4 $80 games…

Honestly not that bad for MS when you consider the spending habits of hardcore users.
...a month... The vast majority of gamers don't finish games within one month. Hardcore gamers also tend to replay games.

So, playing a AAA game on day one for two months shatters the GP value. Replaying or playing older games that already have a discount, or are even cheaper than the subscription.... is kind of retarded

If GP subscription growth has been stagnant, these prices will cause it to shrink effectively contradicting Phil Spencer statement from the Xbox Business Update.

clown company, clown executives and clown fanboys and shills....Three-Ring Circus!!!!

Yeah for PC players its still not horrible to sub now and then to play new titles but console players, damn
It sounds like it will also be getting some Ubisoft titles as well but not the full extent of whatever "Ubisoft Classics" means.

Not terrible but it's going to presumably work out to $20CAD/mth now instead of $15. I can easily buy the NEW full priced COD every year plus some other stuff that it just isn't worth it now.

50% price hike on Ultimate GEES. They keep telling us how profitable gamepass is, then they make day one games on console $30/month.

Go back to just buying your games.

Pc Gamers.

$2500 GPUs....take my fucking money, NOW!

$30 subs....Fuck off!
People value things they can own, it's why PC gamers still buy GPUs instead of everyone streaming over GeForce NOW, don't underestimate ownership.

$30 for rental is rough.

So day one releases are now behind a paywall of...almost half the price of a fully priced game each month? Jesus...

Also, join the fact two out of three Gamepass tiers don't have the main selling point of that subscription service...and the fact that the only tier that has day one games got a price bump is very telling on what's really happening with these day one releases.

What i would give to see those Gamepass subscribers in terms of numbers.

edit: Biggest irony on this? Gamepass now costs...360 bucks a year. Xbox $360 is alive!

edit 2:

Wait...COD is not included even after a year on Premium? lmao

That settls it. We now know how that COD experience worked for Gamepass. Flopped. People signed for 1 month of GP and ditched it.

Somebody need to dig from that goldmine of a thread about MS/ABK Activision, and how certain folks were pro-acquisition because of "I just want to play COD games on Game Pass." lmao 🤣

I read this as Gamepass not working the way they want. It's no longer the entry point for people.

It's purely an ancillary service that they want to take as much money from, same as their consoles. They raise the price to a point that they know some tards are gonna pay it but ensure it's profitable.

They're killing Gamepass as their big reason to adopt Xbox. They want to be EA or Ubisoft at this point but have to slowly kill their hardware

I pay $30 a month for my water softener but I would not pay for this. Yikes! They might as well just say they struggle to justify keeping Day One games as a benefit. Clearly it heavily impacts sales. I mean of course it does, right?

The thing is Microsoft will never end Gam Pass. They will just keep jacking up the price until it is only the super enthusiast, those that forgot about their subscription, and the dead remaining.

not too bad a jump for us UK bros (about £6 a month) -- but yeah, I can see a lot of people who don't get a ton of use cancelling. The increases should have been split up over the next two years, £3$5 this year, and another £3/$5 next year.

But hey ho, honestly I still get some value out of the service, so I'll likely keep on it.

I bet MS loses more PC players over this than console.

Many console gamers bought the device for gamepass.

PC gamers bought it because it is cheap and a good deal.

Console gamers probably won't even realize it went up and let it ride. I can't image PC gamers doing that. Totally different audiences and behaviors. Even with the less sizable increase, I suspect this will be felt across PC gamepass sub numbers the most. Also, they did no favors lumping this all into one announcement. There will be misinformation from bad actors telling PC people their gamepass is going to 30 bucks per month and some will not question it, just unsub. This is complex enough where they would have been better off announcing the PC changes in a separate tweet.

And I bet PC gamepass is a very small crowd to begin with, really trying to run people off

I think this is the last straw for me. I don't need Xbox live at this point. In fact, I only boot up my Xbox to play my 15 minutes of Gamepass for my Bing reward points. I'll miss the free Amazon gift cards, but oh well.

Not to mention, their app for gamepass is fucking abysmal. That's what made me unsub years ago.

No, that's not the reason at all.

Pc Gamers can afford $2500 GPUs because living in their parents basement, is cheap living.

Well shit... It's just dawning on me that my mums basement happens to be over 7000km away from the family home in a different country entirely.

Ultimate is already £14.99 over here in the UK. Any higher than that is pushing it. It's just too much for a rental service to play a few first party releases and older games that you can get for cheap. Not worth it. Clearly there's no more growth and Microsoft are gonna squeeze as much profit as they can from the most hardcore fans who are still around.

its their way of slowly killing it.
whole thing didn't made a lick of sense financially. satya is a moron for having fallen for spencer's "netflix of gaming" shtick and still keeping that loser in the company.

Lame.

I was already paying for both GP Ultimate and FN Crew so I guess I can cancel my crew sub and actually save some money.

Subscriptions were supposed to be the answer to stuff like cable television but they ended up being worse.

Sigh.
