Microsoft revamps Xbox Game Pass plans and hikes Ultimate to $29.99 a month, Ultimate gets Ubisoft+ Classics and more

Hmm, I think I will keep my PC Game Pass rolling. I still think it's great value, even after the price increase, but it's starting to get to the point of "hmm, should I keep it going?".
Yeah that is where I am at. I have a massive library of games on Steam/Epic etc so it is only really the day one games that keep me subscribed. Being able to just play stuff like Clair Obscur without having to weigh the cost is a big plus.

I am still stacked with free GPU until March 2028. There's no way I would pay actual money for it at that price. I'd rather just wait and buy the games I want to play when they get a discount.

Some people seem to think that PC Game Pass is no longer getting day one games, but that's not the case. I hate to say it's still a decent value even after the price hike.

This was totally me.
The press release made it seem like the PC Gamepass tier had been rolled into the new console tiers cuz they didnt mention the price hike happening on the PC Gamepass tier, or that PC Gamepass was still gonna be getting games day one.

The messaging has been horrible.

So between killing the Rewards to sub perk and now the price hike, PC game pass went from 7750 Rewards points to 16150 Rewards points.

Welp.....guess this ride is ending for me.

That's likely because PC Gamepass or whatever they call it now is on its last legs. Just a matter of time before it gets rolled into the other plans. There is no reason to have it really, when Xbox is basically PC now.

Cable TV Companies: "I'm sorry it comes as a package, you can't pay for only the channels you want."

MS: "I'm sorry it comes as a package, if you want day one games you have to pay for vbucks and ubisoft classics."

Kinda like another service named PS+????
There are no first-party day-one games on PS+, so no.

In fact, GamePass Premium is the equivalent of PS+ now.

We're also welcoming major additions to the Ultimate experience. Starting November 18, Fortnite Crew – an $11.99/month value – will be included in Ultimate, with access to the Fortnite Battle Pass, 1,000 V-Bucks each month, and more. This is just the beginning of Xbox and Epic's work together toward an open gaming ecosystem where friends can play and create together, anywhere, across devices.

It's frustrating when that price increase is motivated in part by profits for Fortnite (the game I dislike the most). If only there were other types of benefits that would add more value...

If it includes EA and Ubisoft i'm not paying. That's a good chunk of the sub money for shit i dont want. Same reason i dont pay for youtube premium when i more than gladly would pay to have ads removed. But im not paying 20 fucking bucks which like half of it is for youtube music when i dont want youtube music.

What literally everyone and their dog was predicting from the start. Shareholders will like this announcement. Cook and squeeze your customers as long as possible. In a digital only future, you'll soon have no other choices.

Fucking LOL. My stack of Game Pass Ultimate ends in December and they'll be lucky if I stick with Core Essential at this rate. $29.99 for Ultimate is an absolute piss take. And announcing this on the heels of the Xbox ROG Ally X which basically requires either Premium or Ultimate for its full functionality as an "Xbox" device? Successful device launch that's supposedly selling well and then they pull this shit which basically guarantees most buyers will stick to it as a Steam device. It's like they want to cut their legs off.

Well, here we are everyone. Microsoft has officially entered the "It's time to make some money" stage of gamepass.

I'm super interested to see what happens to the sub count after this.....but MS dont share anything do they? do they even provide percentages in growth vs YoY?
It is such a drastic price raise that it feels like Microsoft is trying to make a bunch of money in the short term before inevitably shutting the service down entirely

Got an update last night for the Xbox app that turned on the combine library 'feature'. It now shows all the games from Steam, Epic, GOG.
All in low res and missing icon glory.

Next up is the Full Screen experience. Someday maybe.

I'll stick with PC gamepass for a while longer. But it would be simple to just quit the entire thing and never look at the Xbox app again.

high quality GIF

11.99 vs 16.49

16.49 - 11.99 = 4.50

4.5/11.99 = 0.375

38% price increase.

PC versions of especially older games for many reasons are pennies on the dollar vs console already. PC gamers play less slate releases and more older and f2p titles. PC gamers are more sensitive to price changes. PC has a larger back catalog so more games to choose from.

PC paying now what console plebs were yesterday, I can't imagine it will set well with them.

However, console people are the ones who should be upset. PC simply has the better service with day 1 games at almost half the price. So PC gamers got slammed but console gamers got ruined with this price hike.

My question is, is MS trying to kill console gamepass so they can transition to all pc gamepass next gen? Seems like either way PC gamepass should expect more love in the near future if it is a big part of M$' plans going forward, which it is.

I never thought PC gamers would be pushed around like this but maybe if they still think this is a good deal(I don't) they will stay. Hmm. MS is putting gamepass enjoyers in a very difficult situation and making you choose to cancel or to pay what they think this service is worth. It really isn't a good deal imho because it is mostly just old games. Unless you get REALLY hyped for the stuff MS has been putting out, then it probably isn't for you. All this just to play some old games. I bet my backlog of games I already own is a better overall library than gamepass. There are lots of Nintendo games in there and plenty of other games I really want to play. Not so much with gamepass.

So drain the whales while putting their games on other consoles to pull in as much money as possible? I can't imagine any chance this is going to help the service grow nor do they seem to even care at this point.

I was speaking for myself.

I've always purchased games I wanted to play since I first got a job in life, and I always will. I don't get FOMO and have a backlog taller than the Eiffel Tower. So when I finally get to a game I want to play, they are discounted and on sale way more often than not.

Same. I just picked up RE4 remake for half of its original release price. I don't mind waiting and always have plenty to play in the meantime.

I could never get into that clunky fucking thing. Steam is fine.

So is the price hike for everybody or only for new users?

I was able to activate the recurring bill this morning (hopefully it will go through) in turkey and it still says for me 309 TRL monthly.

New new ultimate price is 799TRL

Welp, looks like my son is on his own. Just finished high school last month anyway. I would have kept paying this mofo probably indefinitely if I didn't see this GAF post. If he knew what a forum was he'd be really mad at you OP.

It seems kinda insane to me that MS asks their console customers to pay almost double the amount of PC players to get their Games day 1... This has "please get rid of your Xbox" vibes tbh.

I expected a price raise soon, but something like 20 dollars more per year, not an extra $120 on an already costly subscription since there is no yearly rate discount.

If you're new you're screwed and if you lapse in payment you're on the new sub price which means you're screwed.
