Microsoft revamps Xbox Game Pass plans and hikes Ultimate to $29.99 a month, Ultimate gets Ubisoft+ Classics and more

Microsoft has obviously given up on trying to get new users into their ecosystem and just want milk the hardcore. I just don't have enough time for this to be worth my while. My subscription runs for another year, but I won't be re-subscribing. Fortunately, my move to PC is almost done!

I'm probably going to drop down to essential until there's a day one game I'm interested in. Change the tier on a month to month basis.

$30USD (don't even wanna know how much that is CAD) is ridiculous. I don't play Fornite or Ubisoft games... the fact that these aren't just add ons that people can opt into is dumb as fuck.
Seriously. I'm never going to pay every month for fucking Fortnite, a game I have never played. Those subs are available separately already. They're grouping it on purpose, and that's where I'm out.

Rare username checks out 🤣

I haven't been subscribed in a couple months and it looks like I'm done. $30 is crossing the line where I have to force myself to play trash or finish shit really fast to make it worth the price tag. No thanks. Two months of this now will pay for a full game. The value is lost.

So question for those who have been confident in Xbox up to this point:

Do you still feel confident they're going to launch another console? Not a third party windows box with an Xbox sticker (like the Ally), but a legit next generation successor to the Series consoles?

I've had this creeping feeling that they might be ready to give up on new console hardware for about a year now. This turbo charges it for me personally.

I am SO fucking happy about this! Profitable my fucking ass. All of you who jumped onto this bullshit and thought you were getting a great deal can now understand why so many of us on here have been saying for a while that not only was this bad for gaming but also unsustainable! A trillion+ dollar company can't afford to give you "free" games EVEN after they claim it is profitable?! Laughable. Fuck gamepass and I hope it fails even harder now.

Once again Steam is winning by doing nothing.

Wild given that they've abandoned hardware side as well and gone all in on GamePass which is now a single point of failure for Xbox.
But what's the point of Game Pass without their ecosystem in any case? There's no chance of them eating into the billions Sony and Steam make on live service cuts now so they may as well make the most they can from their own games.

My GamePass Ultimate ended earlier this year, I have not missed it.
2025 is actually the first year for me when it's been truly great.

Ninja Gaiden 2 Black
Oblivion
Doom The Dark Ages
Silksong
Avowed
Expedition 33
The Outer Worlds 2 (soon)
I'm sure I've missed a lot.

But it's only costing me $5/month. At that price it's a steal. At $30/month things are getting absurdly expensive. You need to play over 6 games to not have paid more than regular purchases.

Oh boy, things must be pretty dire if they're increasing the price so much. I used to pick up Game Pass once every few months to play some new games, now I'll gladly skip that and go back entirely to buying things that interest me.

Oooooo they are cancelling in droves. Peak FAFO. Maybe they can ask Disney for help.

I think we are witnessing an end of an era here boys n girls. read the comments. It is glorious.

Lol what are you gonna do when they price ES6 at $80 across the board?

Microsoft has shown very tight control over its keys, you almost never see their games at hyper low prices anymore.
Lmao. Go to deals gg and look at the prices of Xbox games from third party sellers.

I can buy 3 to 7 MS first party releases ( including one of them a day one release ) of that year and will barely be paying what they are asking for to rent their games.

Especially true if you wait couple of months for the games that you are not in rush to play day one

I am really glad Xbox is dead. Gaming future with MS name on it is nothing but shit . Good riddance. And hopefully they lose more money to the point they shut down next year the whole Xbox project.

I would rather get monopolized by Sony and Nintendo over giving MS money like this.

They will be lucky I am giving them money for Forza Horizon 6 ( unless somehow they fuck it up with monetization then even that I am out )

Greedy bastards. Dead last and own nothing of the market and acting greedy already.Fuck off

Wasn't competition supposed to drive lower prices? Especially competition from MS. That seemed to be a popular argument from a certain crowd not too long ago…

For those who are only considering getting a one-month subscription for newly released games, such a price could have made sense. They could have introduced a yearly plan and kept the monthly price between 15–20 dollars. We'll see who's actually willing to pay 30 dollars every month.

It's interesting that PC gamepass is barely mentioned; once again, it still looks like the most reasonable option. As a PC player, I can't say "goodbye gamepass", for now—I might subscribe occasionally. But if I had an Xbox, I wouldn't subscribe even for a single month.

410$ Canadian before taxes. 461$ after taxes for a yearly game pass ultimate

Xbox games day one here are a 100$ after taxes

That's 4 games day one and 1 game on sale.

How many fucking good games MS releases day one that you have to buy and play day one per year ????

Lolol. Please die

Seems like the current leaders at Microsoft are on a Crazy Train to destroy the company. I am sure there is some xbots who will go along with it but the vast majority are going to dump this like a bad habit. Instead of improving their product they are asking for more money with no improvement. They keep trying to ride this crutch of "marketing conditions" Good luck with that!

I don't play enough these days to justify that kind of cost. Before it was something I just didn't think about and would just let the subscription run. Ah well.
