Microsoft revamps Xbox Game Pass plans and hikes Ultimate to $29.99 a month, Ultimate gets Ubisoft+ Classics and more

200+ more actual games... vs. 1,000+, the vast majority of which are classic games from other generations that you can play on Xbox via emulation in devmode. Add in the benefits of Xcloud, PC games, etc.

It's up to you to decide which you prefer. I see them as perfectly comparable value, but far from the value and offerings of Gamepass Ultimate which is on a different level.

That said, PC Gamepass is the real winner here.
Yes, the service that only got a 37.5% price increase is the real winner here.

It's hilarious that these guys are still fighting Sony when the only company they should be fighting is Microsoft to try and keep Xbox alive.

You'd have to be mental to pay for Ultimate. Just buy games every couple of months.
You didn't, but you would now!

I am SO fucking happy about this! Profitable my fucking ass. All of you who jumped onto this bullshit and thought you were getting a great deal can now understand why so many of us on here have been saying for a while that not only was this bad for gaming but also unsustainable! A trillion+ dollar company can't afford to give you "free" games EVEN after they claim it is profitable?! Laughable. Fuck gamepass and I hope it fails even harder now.
Why so happy and gleeful? Folk have been getting a great deal for YEARS - they weren't wrong. Now it's not so much a good deal, I am sure they will vote with their wallets.

I'm pretty sure COD is what finally screwed them over. They had to try something after losing the last generation. They wanted the COD monopoly, they didn't get it, Gamepass subscribers didn't rise.

Get rid of Ubi+C and that FortNite shit for 20 bucks and id bite.
Saying more rewards when said rewards are some random shit?
Ubi+C is literally old Ubisoft games that go for like 5 bucks every month.....if someone really wanted to play those old ass Ubi games by now they'd own them.

Otherwise ill be on PC Gamepass.

For those who are only considering getting a one-month subscription for newly released games, such a price could have made sense. They could have introduced a yearly plan and kept the monthly price between 15–20 dollars. We'll see who's actually willing to pay 30 dollars every month.

It's interesting that PC gamepass is barely mentioned; once again, it still looks like the most reasonable option. As a PC player, I can't say "goodbye gamepass", for now—I might subscribe occasionally. But if I had an Xbox, I wouldn't subscribe even for a single month.
PC simmering on backburner rn, next year boil
🐸🐸🐸

I haven't fully decided but I'm feeling I might be out.

I mean it's great and all that they've added more games, but I already was getting more than I could play as it was.

I don't need more, and I don't want to pay for more.

Why so happy? Cause so many of us KNEW this would happen and have been saying it for years yet people didn't want to listen. You REALLY think it was profitable cause Microsoft was saying so? You really thought something that was far too good to be true would continue? You think Microsoft give a flying fuck about any of you renting their games by saving money? I mean seriously my guy, stop lining the pockets of these fucking clowns by renting games. Buy games and help support the actual devs instead of throwing money at Microsoft to rent games. Why is this such a hard thing to see and understand? I'm glad people now are finally seeing how pathetic this all is and hopefully things in gaming start getting back to normal. Fuck renting and fuck sub services. Simple as that.

They really need some exclusive content to justify this price - it's pretty much what I would spend on games in an entire year.

All of the video streaming services have exclusives, but there's nothing on Game Pass that you can't buy separately elsewhere. MS should make CoD a Game Pass exclusive, if they have any confidence in it.

But that's the whole point - offering cheap crap to have some defense strategy that they're increasing the value of the service. ;)

It's a common tactic for subs like that. Like for instance if there was a super cheap console sub with only paid online many people would pick that, not caring about the rest of the features of the current base subs.

Is this some weird MS strategy to shit on their own gamepass program, in turn encouraging people to just go out and buy day one games at full price then pull the plug on gamepass saying people prefer to buy rather than rent, so we listened?

I think they need to look at what is happening to streaming services, they should just do something like PSN+ Essential and offer discounts on some top first party games and throw in Flight Sim, Minecraft and Forza Horizon and sell all the other games at full price.

What utter drivel..Game Pass is a great deal in gaming

Roasted by Gamestop, holyshit.

It's only profitable because they lumped Xbox Live Gold into it, otherwise it's not profitable.
Unless MS shares net profit for GP or at least update sub numbers, it's all fantasy maths. Clearly, churn rate is higher than profits despite the revenue, hence the entire service was basically revamped.

Also a bit of a gtranslate of a Slav meme that actually highlights the problem in a spectacular way

No, they kept PC Gamepass for now, its new price is 16.50$. They will kill it eventually though it's inevitable, just not today
Am I blind? I don't see anything about PC Gamepass in the original post, only talk about PC in Ultimate, Premium, Essential with Ultimate being the only one giving you day 1 access.

Folks were arguing with me how Netflix is profitable and more expensive to make than games and how Gamepass is cheaper than Netflix. Where you dudes at now? Gamepass is now more expensive than Netflix, let that sink in.

You'd have to be mental to pay $30 a month for GamePass. And them trying to sell it as 'value improvement' because of Ubisoft classics you can already buy for $5, and some Fortnite crap.

Glad I'm locked in until mid 2027 with a conversion deal, but after that…adios. Unless they come to their senses.

Weird how they'll cancel games, close studios and then launch a handheld that has GP as a key selling point and then pull this off.
