It was sickening to read the stuff he did and was into. I try not to be someone that celebrates the deaths of others but in his case the world is better off without him.

He was sentenced in December 2013 to 29 years in prison, with a further six years on licence, after admitting 13 sex offences, including the attempted rape of a fan's baby.

He also encouraged a second fan to abuse her child during a webcam chat and secretly stashed child sexual abuse videos, some of which he had made himself.

Watkins' abuse and misconduct with children was reported as early as 2008 to South Wales Police, though the authorities repeatedly failed to act upon any of the leads.[16] This included both sexual abuse and giving drugs to children (including cocaine).[16] Watkins' former bandmates claimed they were unaware of his conduct with children, as his drug use had begun to cause heavy strain on his relationship with them. Watkins had requested his own private dressing room away from the other five band members, where much of his abuse of children allegedly took place. Watkins had also chosen to minimize personal contact with most of his bandmates.
 
I don't want to celebrate a person dying, ...but this time fate got the right person to allow people to celebrate dying.

I started reading about his crimes when he got caught but I had to stop as it was the most disturbing stuff I've ever read. I've worked with murderers in the past and I'm not easily shocked but it was truly sickening.

I hope he died a slow, painful and humiliating death.

That being said. When I first found out about what he did it hit me hard. I was a HUGE Lostprophets fan growing up. Those first two albums are amazing and for awhile they were 100% my favorite band and I would have easily said I looked up to Ian so hearing everything was shocking. Luckily I only heard about it after it happened and I had sort of moved on a bit.

I still listen to the first two albums despite everything. What he did doesn't take that away and I've always been a separate the art from the artist type of guy.

Edit: Not British, but spent some time there as a kid and grew up listening/watching a lot of British stuff. Felt like and imposter lol

Surprised it took this long, considering this is generally the outcome for CA/CP owners in Prison.

It's why all those BBC presenters magically keep getting slaps on the wrist instead of jail time because they know what's gonna happen if they put them in there.

Fuck this guy I'm glad he's dead, but I don't think we should celebrate the guy who killed him - I've got a feeling they often have their own skeletons in the past that they want to mask.

Yeah, Fake Sound and Start Something were hugely influential to me in high school. I had a bunch of band posters on my wall, and Lostprophets were among them. I think they fell off a little after those first albums, but they still put out a handful of good songs here and there. I think the solo for "I Don't Know" was one of the first solos I ever learned to play on guitar.

I'm generally in favor of separating the art from the artist, especially with the petty reasons the internet invents for canceling people these days. That said, in this case, the singer's crimes were SO heinous that I just couldn't do it. I can't hear his voice without my stomach churning.

I've sometimes attempted to rationalize that perhaps he was a better or a different person in those days, before fame corrupted and twisted him. I would like to think so, but maybe that's wishful thinking on my part. For me, it hasn't changed that I can't listen to their music anymore.

I'd like to say I believe in second chances, rehabilitation, and forgiveness. This has shown me that I have limits with that philosophy. In this case, I think he got less than he deserved, and the world will be a better place without him.
 
Haha. From what I gathered the guy tried to rape a child, among other heinous things. No sympathy.

Surprised the guy actually got 29 years in the UK when you see all the migrants and immigrants who gang rape kids on the regular getting a few years at most, with some not even going to prison.

No mercy for sick fucks like that. I mean people hate pedos in general but there are still levels to it, targeting teenagers is even more or less allowed in many countries (15, 16yo age of consent) but attacking children pre puberty is something completely different. This fucker was targeting the most vulnerable group (babies). Rape gangs were targeting girls around the age of puberty (12-13).

I think there should death penalty for this or at least automatic life sentence with no option to get out.

No need to waste tax payer cash on people like this, just put them down in the most inhumane way possible.
 
Disgusting piece of shit. He should've gotten the Jeffrey Dahmer treatment with a dumbbell to his face but a slashed throat seems like a painful death too.
 
Also let's not forget the "mothers" who abused or let him abuse their babies and children because they were such big fans. This whole story is so fucking disgusting and makes me unbelievably angry. Happy he's finally dead.
