Assassin’s Creed Boss Breaks Silence On Leaving Ubisoft: ‘I Did Not Make That Choice’

Three days ago Ubisoft announced that Assassin's Creed head honcho Marc-Alexis Côté was leaving the company. "Marc-Alexis Côté has chosen to pursue a new path elsewhere outside of Ubisoft," said a spokesperson at the time. Except, now Côté is insisting that's not how it went down, and that he was in fact "asked to step aside."
Marc-Alexis Côté has been running everything Assassin's Creed for almost two decades, overseeing a vast number of games in the enormous franchise.
I'm not sure if that's a good thing. The AC franchise only lacks two things: good writers and attention to details. Everything else is solid, imho.

I think this is a good riddance. The quality of the latest games went downhill and this guy worked in all of them supervising their quality

The company needs someone better

Haven't really been interested in AC since Odyssey, and I struggled to finish that one.
So I see any potential change in leadership for this franchise as something good. Worst case scenario I'll just continue not caring about AC.

Assassin's Creed has been bad since Odyssey IMO. Maybe management changes will lead to better games.

Isnt Odyssey like everyones favorite RPG-Lite Assassins Creed?

Not mine, I still preferred Origins.

He at least know how bad AC has been since he write?

Has everyone played AC3 and reach the ending? I still refuse to believe that ending was real. Is so fucking bad.

That's like saying a healthy person needs to have a solid heart. Awful writing leads to awful characters (including the protagonists) and quests... and to people not having fun with the game unless they absolutely don't care about the story and the lore and they just want to explore the map and clear locations.

I may have said that wrong. What I'm trying to say is Odyssey is the last one I enjoyed. Since then the series has felt incredibly dull and uninteresting IMO.

I'm with you on preferring Origins. GOAT setting that was insanely immersive. Byek was also the best MC of the bunch. Who can't identify with a man wanting to avenge his family? The VA performance really sold it too.

I love Odyssey. That doesn't change the fact that with RPG pivot series has lost it's identity, soul and literally lost the plot and narrative.

I'd say, good riddance. Would gladly pay for pure action-adventure with robust combat and parkour without the inflated leveling and vast copy-paste open-world.

Ohh yeah I skipped Valhalla so I cant really comment on it.
I was feeling burnout already.

That's probably because you listened to the wrong people and did a Kassandra playthrough instead of the true MVP Alexios. Malaka!

Hahaha I actually played Alexios then the bastards tell me Kass is the canon.........

That's why I'm surprised everyone seems to prefer the Kassandra version. Alexios was old enough to remember what happens, and you'd have a baby raised by an evil cult. So after struggling to survive he goes for revenge. Him turning towards the cult that destroyed his family just doesn't seem right to me.

Probably the same people who won't stop talking about femshep when all they really want it so see some hot red head on blue alien chick action. I'm fine with my canon John Shepard pairing with supposed "space racist" Ashley.

Did you quote me by mistake?

No, you commented on how Bayek's avenge story was good. Alexios' is just as good, while having it as Kassndra's doesn't make sense.
My memory is fuzzy, can you tell me how? Don't they both have the exact same story and they just flip the characters around depending on who you choose to play?

I thought the story in Odyssey was stretched too thin over and absurdly long play time. IMO a downgrade over Origins because of that alone.

What I loved about Odyssey was the RPG loot and mythical monsters. They teased that stuff and then BAM you're fighting a minotaur. Was badass as fuck.

Am I the only one here that wants a remake of the first?

Shit, give that to Bluepoint
they should absolutely do a remake of the first 3. Black Flag is already getting a remake to release next summer. And then make a true "Assassins Creed 5". Would be perfect marketing to show a return of major plot. (and all the offshot games would be treated like side stories, thus why they never got a number. No thats not the real reason, but they should do it anyway, as its a great marketing move)

Their ages are always the same. Alexios was a small boy while Kassandra was a baby. I guess I could be wrong, but I thought the decision is made after the event happens.

The story was stretched about, but the environment was more varied than just sand everywhere. Making the ship a gameplay focus was also fun.

I never got into AC even with the original one, Black Flag was the exception thanks to its ship battle.

I find the whole Desmond plot to be pointless and why it was even needed.

I mean his output was consistently not great, despite having basically an infinite amount of resources.

Notably on the storytelling side its shocking how latest AC are so poor and boring despite their seemingly strong focus on cinematic presentation

I remember playing Odyssey and being impressed by some of the side quests, the writing and creativity were pretty good imo.

Odyssey had some pretty good sidequests, but the main story was bland and forgettable. Like most games in the franchise it also suffered from having to add a bunch of AC themes and concepts which at this point feel more like a burden than something that's enhancing the storytelling

But really, my main issue was the gameplay. Between the low enemy variety, basic combat and aggressive level scaling, it's one of those games where I felt the combat had zero variety or evolution. Fights 5 hours into the game felt almost identical to the ones 50 hours into the game.

That Civil War Asscreed he was making must have been a Black Hebrew Israelite's wet dream come to life to get Ubiwoke to fire your ass.
